That’s why it is such a crazy story. On one side, you have total terror and financial devastation. The other such humanity, kindness, integrity and love. Probably why it stuck with me.
None of the governments of any of The United Nations, did a damn thing except rant on TV about how the Somali Pirates are ruthless and need to be stopped. No one even tried to stop them, call them, send a delegate etc… Regular Joe and Mary Blow were newsworthy, but not worthy enough to be rescued. It was really gross. Oh almost forgot, the media would air the kidnapped couples pleas for help sent by the pirates. That’s it though.
So a random citizen literally went and got them. In 2 days, after a year with no assistance from any government.
It’s a heartwarming story but the part about no monetary exchange isn’t exactly true:
The Somali taxi driver from east London was so ashamed by his countrymen’s crime that he raised an unconfirmed $200,000 from the Somali diaspora in Britain, and personally delivered it to the kidnappers in exchange for the hostages.
However he did it, it is a great story, and he is a true hero for doing that.
Pisses me off how people like that in third world countries steal money like that and demand more!! May it be a scammer pretending to be in love with someone or something like you described. Then to demand more! As they are living like kings in there sit hole country
Dude, I don’t care how much cash you have. Ain’t nobody gonna live like a King in fucked up Somalia. I’m not defending the pirates in any way, but you can see how they are bred. Violence, genocide, war, extreme poverty, lack of education and an assault rifle shoved in their hand practically from birth. I find that extremely sad.
Interestingly, a lot of ships are purposefully sent into hostile pirate waters in order for those companies to get the insurance payouts for the supposed hijacked ship and cargo. pretty fucked up but is a reality too…
I guess cuz I’ve never made seeds, I probably don’t get it. But, whenever I’m reading the preservation runs, I always see a large handful of people who say they have been chomping at the bit trying to find the strain etc etc… then they follow it by saying they want to chuck the pollen on to another strain. I don’t get this. How is that preserving the strain? How is that enjoying the specifics of the strain? I’ve only read about it, but I want to randomly sprinkle it on some other plant because it might really make another goid strain or it may really suck. Seriously I don’t get it. I’m not over here pheno hunting and am not making more seeds, so I’m not exactly preserving it either, but I do share my seeds for others to grow. I guess my thought is, I want to keep and try the strain the way the breeder intended. The person who put in years fine tuning the strain. Isn’t that the point of preserving a strain. Or should we just breed out all of it’s finery with random pollen chucks?
For me every time a male or males is being used I have an intended purpose for a certain group of mothers I have an interest in working with for many years to come. I also am blessed to have a lot of other mother plants that wont neccesarily be in my stable for a long time but because I have them I might as well use them as basic means to a general preservation of seed and not preservation of strain… it’s more just academic at that point … so with every “breeding” I do also comes with a mass pollen chuck too. Just how i do it anyways
well let’s take holy punch as an example…a nice plant …good structure excellent flavor… in my mind could have been just a bit stronger…but I have no more seeds…
I have a beautiful male plant flowering. This strain is supposed to pass on frosty goodness and potency from all the dialog I have read. I found the plant great but could also benefit from that stout holy punch structure.
I should not bother to cross these to keep Holy Punch pure?
That’s not exactly what I meant… What I mean is why would you just chuck a strain that you’ve never even tried, f2’s at that without cherry picking through first and keeping the best of each strain? Especially when you have been looking for this elusive strain? To each his own, but I still just dont get it. Most of the peeps I see on here are just joe blow grower, not a breeder or are even going to work a line per se for generations. I guess this will never make sense on a micro level to me.
If I had bred a line for say 8 years and perfected it, then I gave a f1 to someone who immediately takes my 8 years of work and randomly throws it on another plant, I think I would be pretty bummed.
Guess everyone is a breeder these days. Experience and actual work genetically be damned as you can just throw random pollen on any strain and maybe get lucky. Whatever is fun I guess.
Perspective…could also be a compliment that they chose your strain to breed from. In most of the cases I think though they probably have something growing and will chuck on it to see what they get and may never germinate them.
I have grown and harvested two of the males progeny so far. They have been frosty and potent. I am flowering the 3rd set/strain (lol …one female…still can’t believe that!)
