I might’ve finally figured out my tunnel ceiling height problem… I went and picked up a bunch of bricks earlier, figuring I’d lift the wood base up and stick some bricks under. While I was there I looked at half-height concrete blocks with holes in them… great for stringing galvanized steel strap through. I was nervous about getting the frame up that high though so I just got the bricks. Turns out lifting the frame was (too?) easy and on their own the bricks solved some of my issues.
I think I’m gonna have to find the time to go back and get some of those blocks.
Missed most of it down here. Couple days ago we got hit. All you can do is shake em off. Well, not true, tis the season of leaf blowers and giant fans.
Sadly, most of my plants have weeks to go, only a few are showing signs of closure, but if we can make it to Croptober, it’ll be alright. Gonna be a battle tho.
The.only thing I can figure, is Mother Nature and the Great Spirit are going to bless us with an Indian summer. Realistically, four more weeks ain’t gonna cut it. Maybe, who knows… . I mean typically we are winding down now. All we can do is spray and pray.
HOT TIPI did find a cool trick. I’ve had five gallon fabric bags get blown over by bad storms. So,.this works with the fabric bags with handles. Cut a piece of bamboo down, stick it in the handle and twist it. Then hammer the bamboo down securing the pot. You can use a 3rd piece to triangle hold the pot, but the two seem to work good.
Smell was citrus, lacquer and hash. All her buds started turning blue and the loupe indicated the time was right. I trimmed a few larfy lowers for a test later this week.
Golden Putang has just started setting buds. She might finish if we get decent weather over the next few weeks.
These girls have really started to come on and have been packing it on over the last few days. Buds appear to grow an inch or two a day and they are dense.
Last 2 mornings, plants have been loaded with moisture early from fog/dew. I get a shower when I shake them off
I harvested some Mountain Gold this morning, will trim fan leaves out on the deck with a cuppa Joe.
I’d like to talk about flushing. Folks on Reddit are adamant that you have to flush for 2-3wks before harvest to “get everything OUT of the plant.” I’ve been told I was an idiot grower if I don’t do this.
I’m all for doing everything we can to improve the end result. That’s the great thing about OG…it helps us all, whether we’re new at this, or have been doing it for decades, every day’s a school day.
The question I asked of the “flushers”, and I’m asking here, if there’s some bad juju in your plant that you believe makes your smoke harsh, when you flush, where does it go? It certainly doesn’t drain out of the plant, as that’s a one-way street. I don’t believe it dissipates through some sort of transpiration process through the surface of the leaves, and even if it did, that same substance, whatever it may be, is already in your buds.
So how does this work? What’s the actual science? I’m “in ground”, and feed weekly, so not a big deal for me either way, but I’m curious.
I had a similar discussion years ago regarding tire covers for a motorhome. A camper explained that it helped preserve your tires. Nope…tires on a motorhome age out long before they WEAR out. Then he said it was to protect them from the UV rays of the sun, at which point I asked if he put them on his car’s tires too?..No, because those tires aren’t as stationary as the tires on the motorhome!..Ok…so these UV rays…that are bad for your tires, that travel millions and millions of miles to get here, can ONLY impact a tire if it’s not rotating?..some how the rotation confuses them?
If he had just said he though they looked nicer?..I’d have been fine, but he was clearly relying on BroScience.
Just cause someone is adamant about something doesn’t mean they’re right. In fact, in any groups where some folks are deep in the geek (like, the world of high end bicycles for instance), the most adamant champions of certain beliefs are just sad and misguided and full of crap.
I think flushing is just bro-science.
I did it when I first started growing, cause I read that it was required. Then it started to seem dumb, so I stopped.
Smoke stayed the same but plants were healthier to the end.
Flushing not needed but i like to lower the n last few weeks to increase the fade. I feel a fade makes a smoother smoke over dark green plants to the end.
