Knotweed can also resprout off 1/4” pieces of stem or root. I have done removal jobs a few times and it’s usually easiest to just get an excavator and scoop well past the roots, put everything on a tarp and bag them and send it to the landfill. In my area you just gotta tell the dump you’re bringing knotweed before you dump it. Have also killed it before by just cutting it back repeatedly and uprooting it but like you said, you gotta be in it for the long haul.
Its one of the few invasives, ill consider dabbing a paintbrush of herbicide on if it’s getting out of control. Pretty much just knotweed and tree of heaven ill do that to if they’re getting crazy.
Started transplanting to larger pots yesterday. Have about 40 starts, some will be males. Bigger pots = more space, of course. Still have everything on one rack:
They’re the only seedlings that are already skunky. The 9lb Hammer and Jack Herer have no odor at all yet, but the Maine Event is sure making up for it.
Next will be onion seeds, then tomatoes. Looking for a sale on kiddie pools, they’re great for being able to bottom water everything.
I was at the hardware store yesterday and saw that they had Coast of Maine potting soil, that contains some amount of Coast of Maine composte in it.
I usually make my own seafood composte, as we eat quite a bit of crab and lobster through the summer. I put the shells in a heavy duty contractor bag, and then do the Composte Dance on it for a bit to crush everything up, and then bury it in soil for the next year. I do that because I’m not paying $12/bag for it when it’s pretty easy to make.
BUT…I was going to pick up some Promix because I’m just starting to up pot stuff, and it’s also time to start onions and tomatoes. The Coast of Maine potting soil was $19/2cuft bag. More expensive than Pro, but it’s already got composte in it, so saves me a step.
Going to be using some today, will let you know how it works out
When I make my own, I use coir, composte, and perlite. When I use Promix, I add some composte and perlite, plus a scoop of worm castings. I’ll look at this, and probably add some perlite to it.
Bar Harbor Blend is excelent for seed starting I mean EXCELLENT , The platinum growers mix will fry your plants if there not far along enough, that crab n lobster compost is very nice Im actually using that mixed into promix HP at this very moment , I actually learned how to grow using the Bar Harbor blend and it got me started on the right foot as for simplicity
Thats where im at now. I got a crazy deal on a 2.5 gallon bucket of crab meal a while ago so it prompted the switch haha. Last time i did outdoor, i did what @zgoat did and used the stonnington blend as my compost component in my promix and it worked pretty well. Have also done it with the pink bar harbor mix but i like the consistency the stonington has more than the bar harbor. I find the bar harbor can get clumpy as it dries back.
@Lobstah sweet thread , Im up in maine as well that early iranian sounds awesome cant wait to see how those do for you. Im looking to run some Sinai / Egypt seeds this season supposed to be a early finishing “semi auto” strain too. Might also try and source some Qubec bred seeds.
Thats all I ran for a few yrs its been 5 yrs. Was good friends for a while but some crazy shit happened an that ended but i would recommend pine warp if he still has it not the crosses just pure pine warp.
Been to the Addams Family farm quite a few times in VT near MT Snow.
Amazed at the price of Coast of Maine Lobster and Crab mix at the hydo store. They are cheaper at Hicks a high end nursery.
I start my seeds in paper towels then transfer to 1 gallon pot with Crab and Lobster mix with a bunch of additives. Then into the tent until light hours are sufficient to put outside.
Sure have a nice heavy indica that was done late sept BUT its a very leafy plant with Dence flowers so bud rot was a problem for me He promotes great mold resistance but its hit or miss with most of his strains. But the pine warp worked well for me. Iam sticking around but I dough I will be making any threads I cant seem to loggin on the I phone so right now iam posting from a 15 yr old laptop so I have to upload pics to the laptop then to here to much hassle
Too funny ill have to stop by there if im ever in that part of VT, Was out by smugglers notch a couple years ago during that insane flood shit was crazy.
Hello folks I’m from the Albany area. I’ll drop a few photos of some plants I’ve grown outside in the past few years. This one is by Ace Seeds-ErdPurt x PCK. It’s a F1 hybrid between classic hash plants from Pakistan and Afghanistan. I did have a large branch on the right side break because of the weight of the bud.
Quick update…
The Early Iranian Blend seeds are in the mail today, so should start showing up in your mailboxes next week.
I think I got everybody, but if you don’t have your beans by next Friday, reach out.
Many thanks to @Emeraldgreen for supplying us!
And…btw, everyone around here is super curious about how these Maine Events are going to turn out this summer. Just realized I posted the pic in the 2024 thread. Muh bad.
