2nd Grow, Indoor/Outdoor, shooting for 2 harvests this summer

After 24 hours of rain the girls are getting perky again…

Now, for the million $ question!
Does anybody know what this is? I think he is guilty of the damage shown and more.

I don’t know but he’s ugly

Post this in the Sick Plants forum, but going to cross post it here too.

Something is munching on my girls. The only insect I spotted is this.
Any idea what it is? Google photo match says “Leafhopper”, is google correct?

Is pyrethrin safe on pot if not in flower?
Double Grape Autos. Still in veg but flowering will start any day.

That looks like the culprit.

THANK YOU!

Think I will keep a lower profile on the interweb.

This is “Stretch” the tall girl…

The girls started flowering.
Been battling a pest issue as shown a couple of posts back.

3 applications of Neem oil didnt stop it so last might I made a .5% solution of premethrin and gave them a shower. No new damage this morning so I am hopeful.

Also gave the girls a full dose of nutes with a double dose of fungicide to help get a bacteria colony going in the root zone. I use this stuff, it is the same strain of bacteria as found in Hydroguard but about 60 times stronger so cheaper to use. (Always use stuff NOT specifically marketed for pot if possible, it will be much cheaper) Will let the pots dry completely before I water again

Looking good today, nice and sunny out!

It does seem that the FIM action had a pronounced effect. The lateral branches just exploded and there are now many more potential bud sites. I did not see that lateral activity on any of the other 3 girls. Will be interesting to see the yield results.

Both of these plants were identical a 9 days ago.

My philosophy on this grow has been largely LITFA except for that one FIM. Being autos I am trying to minimize any recovery time and just simply keep things in the sweet spot.

I like to tie them so they are at a 45 degree angle. Makes the lower branches grow while letting the top still grow fast.

What constitutes a “Double Dose” of that fungicide? I’m using one ml per gallon and the roots look strong & healthy but I’m not sure if that is over/under or just right.

I used 5ml to 2 gallons.

Well, looks like I have had a setback.

Saturday morning the girls looked like this:

Saturday evening after dinner they looked like this:

Tracing back to Friday night is where I made my mistake.
I applied a 0.5% solution of premethrin to them after sundown.
I also applied a full dose of nutes, and a double dose of fungicide.

1st mistake - too many variables changed at one time.

  • The damage looks topical in nature, which points to the premethrin.
  • The fungicide is only creating healthy bacteria, very much doubt it had a negative effect.
  • Full dose of nutes would have burnt leaf tips first, not the likely culprit.
  • It appears that the daytime sun got it, as the plants looked fine overnight.
  • The same solution of premethrin, full dose of nutes, and double fungicide was also applied on the tomato plants and they showed no ill effect. Exact same dosages.
  • I did NOT follow good sprayer hygiene in that the sprayer hasnt been used in years, and I failed to wash it out beforehand.

Weighing all of the above, I suspect the premethrin spray simply because the damage looks so topical. At this point there is nothing I can do, the damage is done, so I am going to just roll with it and let the girls recover. Flowering just barely started so leaf damage isnt as painful.

Needless to say, I will be a lot more cautious if I ever spray my plants again. Actually, I see myself going back to hydro after this grow.

Your reasoning is sound.
…You hurt their feelings… but they will forgive you… :+1:

That’s a tough break brother! Sorry to see it.

I’ve never seen permethrin do anything like that and it’s my goto for insect attacks because it is broadly effective.

You mentioned that you applied it after sunset so the leaves should have dried overnight. If they didn’t, then strong sunlight on wet leaves is a good guess. OR Sprayer hygiene… that damage looks suspiciously like RoundUp!

No new bug damage tho?

Agree with @Gpaw that they’ll probably recover.

The leaves were still wet Saturday morning. I thought it was dew.

Yeah, looks a lot like Round Up to me too.

I think 3 of the 4 girls will recover ok, albeit at a lower yield.

However, the runt of the lot just took too hard of a hit. I am going cull her as I just dont think the view is worth the climb to nurse her along, the yield would be total crap anyway. I threw 2 more seeds in some rockwool last night. Will plant the winner of the two.

If it wasnt for the 4 plant limit I would nurse her along. However, I “need” the weed and this plant wont offer much even if I do everything right from here on out. I think I can pull off another full grown auto before the season ends, and I can always put her back in the tent if the cold hits early.

I think these 3 will recover, albeit with a hit to yield. New growth, and there is new growth, looks good.

Have 2 seeds sprouting to fill the 4th pot again.

The girls are recovering. Lots of flowering going on. Fortunately my screw-up occurred just before they started flowering so the flowers don’t look to be affected, except for maybe a little smallish. The FIM girl sprouted buds everywhere, smallish but a very high count.

I long for my tent……

Been pampering the girls since my blunder. They seem to be doing ok. Just keeping them fed with 1/2 doses of nutes and doing defol of the worst leaves.

And this is FIM, A little behind the first in terms of size, but bud sites everywhere.

And this one is showing bug damage again, on the new growth, so I know its new damage.

So, i really think contamination of the sprayer was my villain last time. I bought a brand new 1/2 gal sprayer to be used for nothing but premrythen. Mixed the same 0.5% solution and sprayed them. So far, no signs of damage today.
