A novice growers first try with regs

Hi folks,

I’m quite new to growing and just started my second indoor run. So why not taking it is a chance to start my first grow log on OG :slightly_smiling_face:

I live in Germany and although I smoke weed since 20+ years I was never really interested in strains or growing weed myself. That changed with the (partial) legalization last year.

My journey started with some autoflowers I planned to grow outdoors on my terrace. A bad choice of soil led to a bumpy start and nearly killed my seedlings.
Being quite a geek and a bit of a perfectionist I started to do my research and read what felt like the entire knowledge around cannabis cultivation. After passing the initial overload I started to understand the basic requirements of cannabis plants and became more and more fascinated about growing.

I managed to finish my outdoor project with three healthy autoflowers and a nice harvest but it was clear to me I had to do some indoors as well. However, the stock of grow equipment in Germany was emptied or overpriced at that time (mid 2024) so I built a DIY growbox from a kitchen cabinet and some E27 lights. My first indoor project was a Blue Sunset Sherbert feminized photo from Barneys which finished in October:

Now I took the next step and bought my first “real” setup consisting of:

  • Mars Hydro 2.3’ x 2.3’ tent
  • Mars Hydro FC-1500 EVO LED (150W)
  • AC Infinity Cloudline T4 fan
  • Rhino Pro 255 filter

As stated in the log title, I will focus on regular seeds in this project (and going forward). I would like to work with stable genetics, do some reproductions and try some pollen chucking.

For my first project with regular seeds I chose the following genetics:

  • UEL F6
  • Chrindy (C99 x Chronic) F3
  • Santa Maria F10

My first goal is to harvest some UEL pollen and conserve it to pollinate some PCK plants this summer in my outdoor project. Additionally, I want to do a partial pollination of the above female plants.

Three days ago I popped 4 beans of each strain and today 9/12 seedlings were showing:

For the three remaining ones the root tips are already surfacing, so it seems I’m off to a good start with 12/12 germination

Thanks mate!!

Chrindy is certainly the one strain I look forward to try the most, as I only heard good things about it. If they turn out to be true for me as well my next project will probably be a seed run for Chrindy. Of course I’m more than happy to share those if successful.

And if I may say, I’m new to growing but I already know your name and its an honor to see you here. I would love to grow some of your genetics at some point in my growers journey :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks a lot for your interest and support, really appreciate it  :slightly_smiling_face:

This morning I was greeted by 12 healthy looking seedlings:

So I guess I can count today as veg day 1

I’m happy that you guys liked my little DIY project. The minibox cabin will be used for male separation and pollen collection:

I only have roughly 70cm/2.3’ of room between bottom and grow lights, so I guess there will be some bending involved to fit one or more UEL male inside

That’s also why I target to keep my plants small. I will probably only do 7-10 days of veg before switching to flower and I will keep them in small 2L (0.5 gal) pots until outing.

My tent is set up in our heated attic, so I have good temperatur control and low humidity in winter. However, it might be a bit too low for seedlings. Even with the fan shut off and closed tent rel. humidity is below 40% during daytime.

To raise humidity I’ve put some wet clay granules in the bottom tray.

Now I’m around 50-55% with my fan on the lowest setting.

I do like your setup.

Quick update on veg day 5. The gang is still complete, all seedlings are growing. Overall it seems the Chrindy genetics do show slightly more vigour than the rest. I guess its no telling much at this early stage but clearly Chrindy #4 and Chrindy #1 are the quickest so far.

Chrindy #4:

Santa Maria #2 is the only one looking a bit off

I would not take a big bet on this one but you never know how the story turns…

I have my fan on a timer. So I can retain heat and humidity. Great start.

sieht gut aus,Pille :vulcan_salute:

they do look a bit lightgreen…the soil may be a bit too wet? they don´t need much water/moisture when babies.

The AC Infinity fan I bought came with a smart controller so it can run in automation mode. Its a very nice tool and I guess it will turn out pretty useful in a later stage of the plants. Currently my main problem is low humidity so the fan is on its lowest setting most of the time.

I bought an adapter cable and connected the Mars Hydro LED to the smart controller. No more timer switch and only one app to control everything. Its wifi integrated so you can even access and control it from anywhere. Very satisfying for my inner geek
