A little update to keep my thread alive. Mrs Shadey and I were thinking of driving across Canada to BC again this year to see our daughter, we are thinking of buying RV and a new vehicle that can tow it, so my plans to grow this year were put on hold again, but with all the renovations on the house we are doing, I don’t think we have time to do it properly and take 10 to 12 weeks to travel about Canada so its getting postponed until next year now.
So now the tent went back to Mars, good riddance, and I am planning on building a grow room in the basement now. Just purchased a 54 x 96 inch utility trailer, so I can get standard size building materials after giving my old neighbor my truck, so it’s all systems go, as I am getting short on weed now might have to buy some before the next harvest for the first time in a very long time
Next week I am hoping to be able to go back to our old neighbor, so long as the back of his property has dried out , it gets a bit soggy this time of year when everything is thawing out, with the trailer. He is kindly storing all my grow stuff and motorcycle as we couldn’t get everything on the removal truck, that will probably be 2 or 3 trips as I managed to get 2/3 of my soil, about 2 cubic meters, from my compost worm bin bagged before I ran out of time.
Spring is starting here, the flowers are starting to come up, it’s really exciting not knowing what’s in the flower beds. So far we have snow drops, and crocuses, with daffodils tulips and hyacinths starting to emerge, day lilies are popping up everywhere, found some rhubarb and garlic growing, and what I thought was a giant ancient honey suckle is actually a grape vine, so might have some grapes to make wine with lol.
I had the nephew of the previous owner come around to pick up a load of old photos from the late 18 hundreds onwards that I found along with some old scrap books. He gave me a lot of info on the property, asked me if I had lifted the loose floor boards in the barn yet as well as the old oil vynil in the workshop.
I said, no I hadn’t, why? He said, there is a trap door in the workshop that goes to a 6x6x6 ft hole where they hid all the smuggled booze during Canada’s prohibition time, and another one in the barn where all the empties were hidden lol. I asked him about what I think is a void space in the house, but he said he wasn’t aware of one, but that it could be a safe room from back in the night train days, when Afro American slaves were escaping the US to Canada lol.
