That’s really awesome! You have lots of pollinators flying around? Your property is amazing!
There are butterflies, bees and hummingbirds everywhere, not seen any monarch butterflies so far which is worrying, but lots of swallow tails, red and white admirals, peacocks, commas, frittileries and the obligatory white, large and small butterflies.
I see a couple of snakes a day now, and have stopped reacting to them when they shoot across in front of me lol. Hardly any black fly out now but the mosquitoes start appearing around dusk. Not had a tick on me for about a month now, starting to get complacent about checking myself lol.
I keep seeing a sale sign for Beehives a few clicks down the rd, I think I may get one next year.
Out of likes, but always thought these hives were really nifty. Not sure what a hive typically costs.

Recovering atm from the big tropical storm on Friday 11am when the first lightning I saw until Saturday 6 am when the skies cleared, the thunder, lightning and rain was pretty much constant. We had 7 inches of rain according to local weather people and our brook which had turned into a white water rapids had risen 6ft by around 4pm but it’s been like this before with no problems. At around 8pm there was a lull in the rain so I took the dogs out for a bathroom break, turned around to see what Odin was looking at and barking to see this.
Our shared drive with the neighbour who was at a concert in Halifax at that time and unaware his workshop and garage was 3ft under water. Between the bushes to the right of the sunken trailer is a 6ft across whirlpool down to the culvert.
The neighbours lawn and driveway.
Looking across from the side of our house to the neighbours.
Behind those bushes is my trailer you can just see the top rails, at this point I was getting concerned as the water was starting to reach the same height as our basements floors.
Starting to get close to flooding my workshop so I moved everything I could lift up on the benches.
Odin barking at the water he doesn’t like getting wet lol.
I put some of the windows I replaced this last week over my weed plants so they didn’t get all the nutrients washed out of the pots. They are looking really good atm and starting to stack up nicely with buds. I will get pics later as we have a foot of water in the middle basement that I have to somehow get out.
Every sump pump locally is sold, and I don’t think the road is open anyway as the neighbour took 4 hours to do a normal hour drive back from Halifax, from constant diversions across gravel country roads to get home as roads and bridges were washed out.
Whithin forty minutes of taking the pics of the flooding it all dissapeared, we can’t work out why it suddenly flooded up and dissipated in a very short space of time other than a blockage in the culvert that cleared itself.
oh man that sounds like an hard weekend!
sending best wishes to you!
Cheers man, I am just thankful it wasn’t worse, we were lucky compared to some people to get away with just this.
We have friends that had the whole of their ground floor apartment under 4ft of water and lost everything. They didn’t have water damage on their insurance as you would never expect that area to be flooded, we have sent them some money to help out on a go fund me another friend set up for them.
A couple who were evacuating themselves and kids, about 30 minutes from here, had got the kids in their truck and it was washed away as they went back to the house for food and water. The truck and kids are still missing atm sadly.
thats is really sad!!! rain can be so life-threatening! good that it did not go worse on your side!
I can’t like those posts man, that’s a lot of water. That’s devastating news about the kids down the road. I can’t imagine what those parents are going through right now
Omg @Shadey I wish you only the best as you battle the sky water.
Wow Shadey! Glad you didn’t get it worse! Reminds me of Ian coming through SW Florida. My mom’s house was under water to the doorknobs. Hope they find those kids alright!
Thanks guys for the good vibes
@Pigeonman 5 out of 6 seeds germinated, 2 are above ground now under my desk light.
Some pics of the Purple Kush aand the Green Monster that is still not gone into bud yet. Pics have that romantic blurry edges due to all the humidity out there fogging up my phone camera
The brook is back down still running fast atm.
Some pics of the flowers out front luckily they didn’t get too hammered with the rain.
Odin trying to get comfy on a garden chair, he hates lying on the deck lol.
Glad to hear it wasn’t too bad where you are. Watching the news had me worried for you. I’d be planning for similar flooding in the future.
Still quite a bit of wildfire smoke in our area coming over from big fires in BC.
Stopped on the highway last Friday on the way back from town to take a couple pics of the new hemp field up the road from us. Wanted to fly my drone over for pics but it’s too close to the local airstrip and a restricted zone.
Can drive right into the field off the highway if you wanted too. I wonder how many non-locals driving by notice it. Some free CBD buds for me maybe.
Man so sorry to hear this , Hope you and yours are all fine and that they find the kids alive.
So Sad Weird weather we are having.
Cool Furboy
Ha reminds me of when we were kids pulling over in the Ford station wagon on way to camp grounds, we would all run out grab a batch of ears and back in the car.
Man that corn was good and fresh.
Yeah I ordered a sump pump off Amazon, it should be here Wednesday, I need to get some gutters up on the back of the house and a long drain pipe to move the water further away from the foundation. I guess it was a good test for the new windows I put in a week ago, no leaks going on there
The neighbor 2 doors up got about 6 inches in his basement, they are getting a quote for some spray foam insulation done on the walls of their basement and floor as well. Then a spay concrete over that, so I told him to send the guy down here andvhe can give me a quote as well. I have been trying to work out the easiest and cheapest way, but with all the log posts holding up the floor joists, it’s a lot of fucking around keeping moving posts to get a vapor barrier down and 4 inches of concrete. I’d have to put an inch of sand under the vapor barrier to stop it getting punctured walking around on it, moving posts lol.
I bet they quote more than 10,000, that’s if they can get this stuff to stick to damp wet rocks and mud lol.
How tall is the hemp, it looks about 6ft, does it get to 11ft and do you know what it’s used for
Not sure how tall it will get but there’s that scale to show it. Last year’s crop from a field about a mile east of that one was put up in big round bales like they do for everything else and are parked in front of the hemp processing plant basically across the road north of that field. Supposed to be state of the art machinery in the plant where they will separate the hurds from the fibre. The hurds get used in concrete to make it stronger, Hempcrete, and there is huge demand for the fibre supposedly. I’d like to invest some money in the project but it’s 5G minimum to buy in. Won’t be the first good opportunity I’ve missed.
I’m pretty sure the seeds and buds are harvested and should call to see what’s up. I guess there was an open house a while back but I never heard of it so missed it.
Instead of a corn maze as corn isn’t grown around here, they should have a hemp maze for Halloween tourism bux. I’d pay to do that.
A little update on the weed plants.
Started to get some leaf yellowing about 10 days ago, so I finally found my PH pen and re calibrated it to test the water in the rain barrel I have been using when they were not getting enough rain to keep them happy. It wasn’t good, a ph of 8.3, tested the well water as I was curious about that also. It was 7.8, I think we have a fair bit of calcium in the water but not seeing evidence of hard water in the kettle yet.
So last week I started to ph the water to 6.2 and hoping that is going to correct any issues but it looks like it was a sulphur problem so I added in a teaspoon of elemental sulphur for a top dress and hopefully that will also help lower the soil ph a bit also and help if its a deficiency as well.

The 2 blood orange haze seedlings are in their big girls pots now. I think I may have started them a bit late but I can move them in and out of the lean too if the weather gets shitty in October.
Some flower pics of whats going on in the garden.
