Day 33
Time for some random thoughts and up-dates. It should now be at, or past the 1/2 way point in the grow. I am still concerned about the small size of the plants and how close the nodes are - but - they do seem to be growing faster every day.
It looks like Im going to end up with a single cola on the runt - even though it got the same FIM treatment and I have been trying to LST it the same as the others. The middle child looks like it will have the two that split after the FIM, plus two more from lower on the plant for a total of 4 colas. Big sister will have at least 6 and maybe 8 big enough to count, plus a couple of smaller side branches.
The roots are doing pretty good considering all the stress they have been through. There are several things with them that I find interesting.
There seems to be three different zones going on - upper, middle and lower. Growth in each area is quite different.
In the upper section I see the fattest bottle brush style fuzzy roots. These roots have the largest and the thickest fuzzy bottle brush look. The top of the chamber is also the driest of the three in some ways and the wettest in others. Its wettest because the nozzles point UP and the main blast hits the top of the chamber and spreads out from there and then drifts down. Its the driest because the mist settles due to gravity, so the mist fades out or has the shortest hang time at the top. It will also see the smallest average droplet sizes after the initial blast - the larger, heavier droplets settle much faster.
I have only guesses as to why, but the middle section is the worst looking/slowest to recover of the three zones. Thats counter intuitive to me, so I can only guess its something left over from the die back each time I left the nozzles turned off.
The bottom section looks great compared to the middle section and that kind of makes sense to me. That area will stay wet the longest and see the most mist over time.
This wide angle shot shows how dramatically different the zones are. The tap roots also show up pretty well. These are hanging down a total of about 26"
If you zoom in on this pic, you can see that there are now just a couple of small shoots that have made it to the floor of the chamber. I am really impressed with this root pruning thing. They take to training pretty well
I find it funny that the roots want to cling to the ceiling and grow down from there.
