Adventures in hydro #3 - AAA or Air Atomized Aeroponics - for sure!

They look better with the increased feed. I’m about to do a res change and I’m gonna bump mine up again. They went crazy in the week I’ve been gone.

What’s the ppm? I dunno how to convert ec to ppm

PPM meters measure EC and then multiply by either 500 or 700 depending on the brand.

Either way That’s way less than I’m feeding mine. They are at 1500ppm

PPM are just over 800 using the 500 scale, or 1120 on the 700 scale.

Unfortunately, there are two different PPM scales (500 and 700) and two different EC scales (Siemens and mili-siemens) - all of which measure the same exact thing. Converting back and forth between all the different scales is a pain, but people dont seem to have a clear favorite. One person does PPM 500 and the next does EC in siemens and the next guy does PPM 700 or even TDS at 500 or mili-siemens.

And they are all correct!!!

I happen to prefer using EC in Siemens, but your PPM/EC meter may use a different scale.

For example, my EC of 0.8 Siemens is equal to an EC of 800 mili-siemens and EC 1.6 Siemens is 1600 mili-siemens.

To convert to PPM you can just multiply the EC in Siemens times 500 or 700 depending on which scale you use. Most folks seem to use the 500 scale, but again, your meter may use the 700 scale.

So, my EC 1.6 would be equal to 1.6 x 500 = PPM 800.

If you use the 700 scale, then it’s 1.6 x 700 = 1120 PPM.

OR - if you prefer mili-siemens, then it would be 1600 x 0.5 or 0.7 to get PPM 800 or PPM 1120.

Oh - TDS seems to usually be equal to PPM on the 500 scale.

Simple huh?

Clear as mud lol I’ll have to check what mine uses lol

Im going to guess your meter is using the 700 scale. That puts you at an EC of about 2.2. If its the 500 scale, then you are at 3.0. Ive seen other folks running that hi, but Ive never been able to go over maybe 1300-1600 PPM (500) without tip burn.

I think the leaves are still a hair light in color, but Im also seeing just a hint of tip yellowing on a few leaves, so Im going to wait another day and see how it goes before upping it again.

Ive also increased the flow rate again, so that may effect things too.

Personally I prefer EC myself. PPM is only useful if the conversion is given IME. That being said, I am running about 1.8EC on my autos using GH 3-part.

That’s what I’m using with liquid koolbloom added.

Here are mine 8 weeks Monday. No real weight yet and probably should have trained them better.

Lots of frost on the leaves and sticky as can be just no real weight yet

Im still not seeing any burn, so Im raising the EC up to 1.9.

OMG!! You really know how to shame a guy  Mine are maybe 12" tall at the most if you pulled one branch up straight. Im about two weeks behind yours, but a good 2 feet shorter!

Have you done any shade leaf trimming removal? I really really want to lollypop these babies, but everyone says not to. These babies are so thick and the nodes so close together that trying to tuck leaves is hopeless.

How close do you think they are to being ready?

Mine are exactly 6 weeks/42 days today. This is the most developed bud - which happens to be on the smallest, least developed plant - number 2. N umber 2 used to be the middle child, but is now the new runt.

Big sister has some of the least developed.

Honestly they look about a week behind. I’m guessing you have another four weeks at least.

Yes I heavily defolieated them about 2 weeks ago cutting a 5gal bucket worth of leaves or you would not see anything but leaves lol. Took trich shots all still clear as a bell so not quite

@ReikoX whats your thinking on trimming fan leaves to allow more light penetration with autos? Most folks seem to recommend against it, but there are a number who do it and seem to get good results - like @Daytripr69

I am itching to break out the scissors…

I am against trimming fan leaves in general, but some people do it and like the results. I know Mr. Sparkle trims fan leaves on his autos for better air flow, or to slow down a stretching plant.

Definitely wish I’d of known that before lol. I let them stretch almost 2 weeks before breaking out sisors

I have exactly the opposite problem - not enough stretch! Im going to remove a few anyway. I cant even get in to see the stems or net pots at all.

I dont know how much good it will do, but Im also going to put the scrog screen in place.

I tied mine back to open them up before I trimmed anything.
