Adventures in seed poppin and pollen tossin

I don’t envy you moving plants like that. I can’t pull off what you’re doing, wouldn’t try. But it gives me ideas that don’t require a bunch of $.
I can tell you the best way to get anything but a scowl from the missus. Clean up the whole area real well 1st. I’ve got a covered side yard I could have part of, if I’m nice.

well…I woke up this morning and opened the greenhouse door to this…

I wonder if this girl right here is the culprit…

My back hurts just looking at that.

my back hurts regardless … but it’s gotta be done if I want a summer crop.
Have thought of ways to automate a retractable cover … have it all designed just haven’t had spare $$$ to make it a reality.
So this is how I get my exercise to get in shape for hunting season… then I sit on my ass all winter ice fishing LOL.
Might watch for some deals on caster wheels and make a dolly I can just pull with a rope but for now… it’s lift and carry. The big totes are the hardest but they slide pretty well and I keep them the closest to the light dep door

Wow that is alot of moving, that is what I call dedication no doubt. This song is perfect for you

well it’s been 12days since the last update and everything is ticking right along. I am really happy with the development of the plants. We did get a couple extreme heat days and my greenhouse thermometer read a high of 52C the other day… just so happens my big oscillating fan siezed up and there was zero airflow. At least the circuit breaker tripped and there was no risk of fire from the fan motor. So I hit up the homeware store and they had a sale on thier store brand 16 oscilators with the folding leg stands which I really like. So those are now in the greenhouse and all the plants are getting good airflow now.

Now there are a couple problems popping up … one is a new one to me and that is earwigs on the plants. Never seen them crawling around on the plants before… gonna have to research that … pest or beneficial? I would imagine they are predators?
Then I have fucking grasshoppers… they are bad this year and have done some leaf damage here and there. I catch a half dozen or more every day and kill them on the spot.
Next problem is a few of the plants developed some rapid yellowing of lowers and 2 plants… same strain, same age, are rapidly yellowing from the bottom up with damaged and yellowed fan leaf edges…
Now my immediate thought is these strains are not getting everything they need from the recycled soil mix. But I look around at the majority of the plants, and especially the big ones and I am not seeing these symptoms. The 2 plants of the same strain are the ogkb 2.0… never had it yellow out like this and the other 2 plants of this same strain in totes of the same soil mix are not showing these problems but they are in a larger volume of soil and perhaps have more nutrient availlable.
Anyhow here are the pics… The first one is one of the LUI x G13 yellowing out in the lowers despite getting lots of light exposure there.

and the OGKB 2.0 in 7gal showing bottom up yellowing and damaged fan leaves… could it just be that they are hungry big time? The fact that it is both plants , equally but no other plants in the greenhouse are doing this… just not sure what to think. I am pondering a stiff dose of lucas formula with some added gypsum and perhaps a bit of epsom to cover the bases LOL
thoughts anyone?
1st pic is with no flash and 2nd pic i put the camera flash on to try and highlight a bit

and compare that to the OGKB 2.0 in the 15 gallon

and the one in the 18 gallon… the original clone mother of the 15 gal and 7gal plants. She is a year old from when she was cut as a clone.

So those plants aside… there is much more to show. Everything is on day 15 of 12/12 lightdep. This is the view from the door although there are plants on the left and right that the camera doesn’t get in the frame

I’ll start with the smaller plants

Chem D

Darlin’s Net S1

GG4 S1 (useful seeds)

Gorilla Bubble Bx2 (tony green)

GSC

Stat Line (tony green)

Lots more to come… gotta roll a bat and I’ll carry on with the update.

Those yellowing plants, sure look like they need some n , doesn’t look like ph, very odd it is the only 2. But they are in the 7 gallon and most likely have used up all there available nutes. I would agree time for a feeding.
All the rest of the plants are looking great. Those earwigs are good and bad… they do cause alot of damage they also are a predator of aphids… but best to get rid of them best you can.

Ya I have been just feeding them water only from my well and I don’t get a sense that it is a PH issue but I think I will do a slurry test and see what’s going on. I do know that there were several extreme heat days in the past 30 days and a couple of my plants showed some heat stress. Overall though , the plants seem to be happy with the soil mix but some are hard feeders so I’m thinking I need to supplement some of them.
Now those pesky earwigs… good and not so good. They eat aphids and mites but they are just as happy to feed on new shoots and flowers… not good.
I’m going to top dress diatomaceous earth on the pots even though there is some in the soil mix to deter ants. I’m used to dealing with mites and thrips as a matter of course and the occasional grasshopper. This year there is some mites but the predators are hard at work and seem to be winning in that regard. Thrips … minimal effect on the garden now that the plants are not indoors. I have several natural predatory insects at play in our environment and they seem to do a pretty good job at controlling the mites and thrips so I don’t need to spray stuff.
At 21 days I usually do a spray down with h20/ h202/alcohol and wetting agent and this seems to stave off any outbreaks that would ruin parts of the harvest.
Indoors I would use Pylon if the mites got out of hand… as a nuclear option but otherwise I use Monterey’s garden spray with spinosad and that works very well for thrips and the Bug BGon with canola… but mostly i try and rely on the H20, H202 and alcohol spray.
I don’t want to harm the predator bugs in the greenhouse as I want them to be my first line of defense hehehe.

Now… pictures… I got more pictures.
Hooked up the spider farmer sf4000 and have it set on low to root clones. Almost have everything backed up with a rooted clone… a few more to go. Will keep one clone of each plant in the greenhouse as mothers until I fire everything back up after the greehouse harvest.

And now for some pics of greenhouse plants…
2017 Shishkaberry - She turned into a dense bush after I topped her. She is making a nice smooth transition thru the stretch and is stacking flowers very nicely. I really need to thin her out as there is a crap load of inner growth that serves no purpose to the tops that are getting all the light. Very happy with this plant and her clones rooted without any issue.

What’s next… let me see…
The Verdant Green Pre 98 Bubba Kush S1… Like the Shishkaberry, she is a dense bush, compounded by topping itself in germination…many growers would have tossed that little mutated freaky stalled out sprout but look at her now…

Next up is the Pink Kush

the two Mikado x Tropicanna Cookies F2 from @stanknugzz77 … very nice plants these are. Super easy to grow and they just wanna be trees  Well… trees for my climate anyhow LOL

Then there is the Grape Pie in the 15 gallon tote

the OGKB 2.0 in the 15 gallon
didn’t quite make it into a scrog but it should still fill out fine come harvest

So I think all I haven\t take pics of is the Bikers and the Long Valley Royals… It’s hard to do because of thier size but as flowering gets a bit further along I’ll be able to get some good pics.

that’s all for today!!

Due your garden is looking excellent brother!

I’m jealous but I’m super close to starting back up fingers crossed!

@Rhai88 thanx man, appreciate the kind words

So I was done posting pics for the day and then I went out to my male area and when I opened up the Long Valley Royal Kush #1 he was finally dumping heavy pollen and ready for collection #2. As I was harvesting the pollen he was giving off this insane smell that is exactly what I am hunting for… then I noticed that he had a very nice surprise instore for me and explains why he is reeking so hard. To say I am stoked to find this plant is a massive understatement. He is “exactly” what I am looking for and glad I found him in this final seed pop.which totalled 43 seeds in the end.
Hopefully the 7 females reveal the special ones I’m looking for to pair up with this male.
He will absolutely be used in the planned outcrosses and I’m even more excited for what comes next

that much reek and frost for being 23 days into 12/12… ya that’s a winner right there!!!

What smells are you getting from this guy?

Any time I come across a male throwing trichomes like this guy is showing I get real happy.

it’s like if citrus, skunk and gasoline all got together for a party … with a hint of lavender rocketfuel hehehe
It’s a hard one to describe but as soon as the smell hit my nose I recognized it.
When I first got into this batch of seed a few years ago I didnt clone the plants and in that first seed pop I found this female that smells just like this male. 2 of my buddy’s came up from the coast and both are life long tokers with respectable tolerance levels. Well that Long Valley female was “just” ready to smoke when they arrived for the weekend. I hadn’t sampled it yet.
So while the four of us (my wife included) were sitting there shootin the shit and catching up, I rolled and lit this joint. We didn’t even get thru half of it… my wife thought we were just fucked… she doesn’t consume cannabis LOL we were giggly and totally ripped after half the joint. I cherished every joint from that jar and have been hunting for that again in those seeds. Now at least I know I have a male that checks the boxes and loaded with trichomes is a total blessing.
Now imagine what is gonna happen when I combine that male with the Biker Kush V1F3 … gonna be Nuclear!!

Damnnn that sounds pretty good to me… I’m a big citrus fan. Well at least find this male is half your battle. It’s always a good feeling when you find a keeper.

Sounds like it packs quite the punch. I’ve been on a tolerance break for a long while now it’s been about a month. I have a feeling next thing I smoke will probably hit me similarly lol

Definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with this dude!

Ya, that sounds like a keeper.

Beautiful grow, and man that looks like a ton of work!

ya it can be a bit daunting doing what I am doing. Right now is when the work really starts to happen. The plants are just about done the stretch phase and they got a whole lot bigger and spread out as the flowers start to add weight to the stretching branches. Gonna be lots of staking and stringing and removal of suckers and inner growth. That shishkaberry and the p98 bubba S1 are going to take a solid hour or so each they are so thick inside.

I am so impressed with the long valley royal females and thier vigor. Can tell these genetics were bred for generations under the natural sunlight because they just fill out and show a vigor that they don’t show inside under lights. They are easily 3 times more growth on them than the Bikers even though the seed pops were all around the same days.
The Biker needs some vigor at this point as perhaps there is some inbreeding depression going on in that regard as I took it to F3. So now it’s outcross time and that frosty Long valley royal male is most certainly going to meld very well with the Biker… I’m super excited for this cross.

In other news I’ve had to kill a few plants that were in the beginnings of forming up nut sacs. It started with the gorilla bubble bx2 , which hurt but theres that gg4 in there and the stresses on these plants in my veg room and now in the greehouse getting picked up and moved twice a day… some lines are gonna express things they may not do under lights in modest to masterful conditions.
So last night and this morning I was checking the other plants with the gg4 in the mix… darlins net s1 and gg4 s1 both popping nanners… fuk. This is my third grow with Useful’s GG4 S1 seeds and the first two seed pops were clean runs. So I guess the 3rd time is a bust LOL That’s okay, these things happen in high stress growing environments.
To my dismay I also found the Slurricane S1 popping nuts this morning too. Bummer. I’m gonna have to break that news gently to my buddy who made both the slurricane S1 and darlins net S1 beans
Everything else seems to be okay but I will be combing over every plant the best I can before I start doing my breeding work next week. Can’t do selective pollinations in the greenhouse without thoroughly checking every plant for intersex.

So I’m down to 37 plants which is fine , it frees up some space for the other plants to stretch into. The center path down the middle of the greenhouse is disappearing fast LOL Time to get some staking and stringing done.
