Afghaniganza Part 4: Gahn baby gahn

Well it’s usually pretty dry in my house – like 40% upstairs. I haven’t checked since I switched to a flood/drain for the little ones, but I suspect that new setup raises the humidity, which helps here.

Black Lebanese x Black Afghan (Banana Hammock pheno) - Finish 66 Days

I call her banana hammock, but goddamn if “they” aren’t nice to look at! :joy:

This one is at least a week earlier than her sister. I see more resemblance to the Black Lebanon in this one. The identical branching structure, and same resin patterns, later black coloration, shorter leaves cupping the golf ball buds at the ends of the branches. Smells are more blueberry to me than her sister, but also piney and herbal (more descriptions to come). The yield is amped up quite a big from the Afghan side, calyxes are notably bigger with those incessantly white pistils, but longer resin heads like the Lebanon side. She is finishing a little later than the Black Lebanon at 66 days.

Thanks! It’s too bad I can’t name her banana hammock for that reason :joy: these are great plants, except for all the nanners. I think I’m gonna remake the cross, but we’ll see how the smoke is first.

Nanners late or early?

I had balls on most of them. This one had early nanners, and her sister isn’t bad but still has 1-2 so far. I could probably breed it out in another generation or two, since the male was clean. But I might try re-doing the cross with a new source for the black afghan.

I’ll get there with it eventually. I like it so far, and don’t mind putting some effort into it.

Bummer on the balls.:broken_heart:
Must be a good plant if you plan on working through the unstableness In the line . Good looking plants agian.
Good luck with your stabilization process.

Lol well the way I think of it is if I’m not willing to put the time into it, then there’s no point having seeds anyway. But I have a bunch of Kandahar Black from jtoucans on IG (Bodhi Kandahar Black x USC Black Afghan). So the next time, I’ll probably use that to make a fresh batch of F1s. And I have a few things to button up with the Black Leb anyway, so I wouldn’t mind having a mom to take clones of for a few runs.

Lol I’m not sure I could get that done on ol’ banana hammocks. The other one, sure, but I’d spend half a day with a pair of tweezers on her. :joy: No balls though, so that’s a step up from 6 of her sisters that got chopped earlier.

This is one of the best parts of OG to me. I see @V4vendetta and @lefthandseeds and others talking about their plants. Truly putting their care into their crosses.

And then I hear of breeders that are wholly in it for the money. Barely doing germ test, no testers, no grow logs.

I appreciate the effort and care put into selecting and working crosses. And think the seeds here on OG are better than many seed companies.

When you take money out of the equation, a lot of breeders really aren’t putting forth a methodology that should be followed. It doesn’t make sense for me to make so many strains that I can’t even grow any of them. Pollen chucking makes sense only for short periods of time, while I’m just trying to see what works and what doesn’t. But when I find something I like, working 3,4,5 generations is NBD. Quality always has lasting value, and it’s just a matter of accepting that.

I think about how many strains I could reasonably curate over a long period of time. It’s probably not more than about 10. So that’s the context that I try to look at things. After I make a whole bunch of crosses, which one(s) are really unique and good enough that they could take one of those spots? Or which ones are showing enough promise that I would be happy to spend time on them?

I try to remind myself about those things when I am deciding what to grow next. But it’s also much easier when you’ve had a few jars of it, and they’ve been empty for a while and you find yourself thinking “I wish I had more of that”. When you find yourself in that position, just let yourself grow it and be happy with it. That’s where I’m at with BD… and now the breeding portion is really just about bringing out the parts I like, and trying to fix or diminish the parts I don’t.

gorgous plants, the colour is awesome!

Hear! Hear! Going back at it when you have plenty of other choices at hand says a lot. Not everything is worth the effort. I will stand with you in believing this particular strain is worth the work.

I’m really impressed with it so far. It has to pass the smoke test still, but it’s putting forth some very unique smelling plants. I also like the mix of Afghan and Lebanese phenos. The pictures of that plant are a little more toward the Lebanese side, but the next one is probably a week out still and definitely is leaning toward the Afghan side.
