nice how you try to make sense with facts (floweringtime specialities in Southafrica VS same Latitudes North in India).
This average Temperature worldmap maches probably aswell :
Of course Autronesian move to South Africa is very much older than little evidence found in Madagascar 2200 BP. That Namibian other fossil pollen found show simply the proto or prehistoric older wave, i would say 12000 BP last glacial as cap btw. And at that very old time there were others continents in all Oceans!!! My Atao’s theory of NLDA birthplace is in Pacific ^^
But the Kalahari found is very surprising according its aridity since very very long time!
@Upstate it would be cool to have a link of the Kalahari fossil pollen study referenced in R.C. Clarke’s and M.D. Merlin’s book ? Please photo of the page if possible.
Here’s Quaternary Vegetation Dynamics “The African Pollen Database” (2022)
With sadly no cannabaceae datas???
But very interestings things to round the circle around ^^
Swaz’ and Moz’ Eswatini interesting old influence and cradle example related to Madagascar and Autronesians IMHO
I think you are confusing Gold Green lower elevation (16/20 weeks) to Drankensberg’s Black Red elevation (12/16 weeks)
he is exactly right that for 30 degree latitude its a very long floweringtime…
Pakistan / Egypt is at 30 Degree North.
Altitude is also a major factor regarding cannabis flowering times.
The post above about the 3 seedlings that survived were 1 male and then the 2 females that are pictured earlier. Not much to update since last pics, some pistils browning a little and I did pot them up to 3 gallon. Week 11 flower currently. Still no strong aromas yet.
Some of the seeds from #2 are starting to ripen up though
I grew his Big Sur Holy Weed x Black Congoloese and it was amazing smoke. The Black Congolese is from Snowhigh originally I believe and added a noticeable extra headsnapping weirdness to the BSHW. These should be killer and I’ll be tuned in to see what you find
Borrowed from another thread on the web discussing Durban Poison and South Africa, how it is very likely one of the lines of the surrounding areas, the real real pure pure, *possibly originating from a high altitude location:
" South Africa is not only an exporter of cannabis, but also an important importer. Cannabis is shipped to South Africa from countries such as Malawi, Zambia, (SAMRC, 1998) Lesotho and Swaziland (OGD,1997/98).
In particular Lesotho, Swaziland and Malawi are specialized in the production of cannabis varieties with a high THC content, known as Durban Poison, Swazi Gold or Malawi Gold.

Mozambiquen from Malberry at 14 weeks flower
#1 Female - She bulked up quite a bit but now looks like she’s starting to reveg under 12/12 so I’ve dialed back the ligting an hour to 11/13.
Smells are really nice on this one, sweet floral and some slight tropical fruit. It’s a unique smell to me so I can’t really pin it to anthing specifically but it’s really nice.
#2 Female - This one has the chuckier bud structure. Same deal though, seems like she’s revegging as well. Biggest difference with this one is that I’m not getting much of any standout smells from this one other than green fresh cut grass.
I moved this one outside temporarily as I had to shuffle the flower room around but now I’m thinking I might just leave it outside and see if it fully switches to veg mode. I think it would do much better outdoors anyway. Plus she’s already served her main purpose by producing some fresh seed stock.
Swazi Gold from Malberry
I was only able to get one seed to crack and grow out of seven and it started out like a runt that was about to shrivel up and die. But she ended up growing out of it after several weeks.
Just confirmed some female preflowers after 10 weeks veg
Cool thread. I’m trying to get a few landrace going this year. I’m doing @Roms Swazi Red. I had 3 Malawi Gold but none made it. Bummed about that one since I don’t think I ever smoked good Malawi.
@Cristalin, are you still going to have the Afropips Malawi? My seeds may have come from you. They were gifted to my by @Smilestyle as Afropips Malawi. He also made a cross of it to a Colombian Gold. I figured he got both from you.
I need to look to see if I have more African genetics. I know I have somebody’s Durban, @lefthandseeds sent me some Lesotho that I’m curious about. Seems like I had some Ethiopian and Nigerian, too.
I’m already sprouting Mazari (Atao), Vibes LB (Atao), and an Oaxaca cross. Not sure where I can find room for all of that, but I may get some plants going just to mature so I can take clones for future growing.
When you get all done, I will trade you some of my magic beans 🫘 for some of your magic beans 🫘. Just DM, and I will give you pick!
Looking good any smells yet?
@skyf what’s kzn landrace? Thanks and any details would be great please and thank you for your time and patience
