American Pit Bull Terriers owners thread

You not letting it is one thing it not wanting to is a whole other.
It can be a sporting dog but not a game dog.

Game should be respected and if you want a non game dog there’s plenty out there.
Not all pits are game and not all game dogs are pits…

Am staff/Pyrenees. Got a DNA test done on him and he is 50/50 through his great grandparents. No clue how the guy we got him from got him (maybe stolen litter).

Game dogs and kids don’t mix. Even Colby couldn’t keep one from killing his nephew.

That dog got bred, I guarantee it. Man biters were never culled.

There is no difference between staff and pit. One of Colby’s pitbulls is the literal breed standard for American Staffordshire. It’s just a rebranding.

Fighting breeds and mixes thereof are too dangerous to be family pets. And they only have one real purpose and we know what that purpose is.

I’m sure you all are really using them for pig hunting and agility sports wink wink.

Sorry that happened but mine never killed anything and its game bred, it’s all about the owner…here’s an article from ASPCA.

These dogs have long been popular family pets , noted for their gentleness, affection and loyalty. And even those pit bulls bred to fight other animals were not prone to aggressiveness toward people.

Human aggression and dog aggression are inextricably linked. Fighting breeds do fighting breed things.

Good to see you posting, man. Hope this becomes a more frequent occurrence!

Third gen Dogman here from fl.
Any game dog that showed aggression towards people was indeed culled usually on the spot.
You are speculating unless you were the owner.
A bull terrier and a pit dog are two very different breeds of dog.

Colby bred pitbulls, homie. Dogman like you should know that.

There’s very little distinction, anyway. Bulldog ie bullbaiting dogs ie bloodsport dogs crossed with a terrier for gameness. If greyhounds were famous for mauling people, I wouldn’t trust a saluki either.

I see you dogmen. And I get that you have to be hush hush and downplay stuff. Colby, Virgil, Tant, Burns, Carver…all kept and bred manbiters. If it wins, it gets bred.

Dog and human aggression overlap. It’s why every time you get a dead kid in the news the culprit is always a pit or mix thereof.

You say there’s no manbiters yet almost every dog fatality is a bully breed aka…pit.

Anyone claiming Pits make good family pets and are safe with their family are just kidding themselves .

Fact is they were bred for what they do plain n simple . Owner makes no difference instinct is instinct . I have zero use for a pit or any of their owners .

100% agree. It’s the whole ā€œit’s how it’s raisedā€ and ā€œnanny dogā€ nonsense that gets people killed. And every single dog in shelters is a pit mix at this point.
Pointers point, retrievers retrieve, and pitbulls fight. (literal bulls in a pit)

You can’t love out genetics. You can’t train out genetics. Fighting breeds are not family pets and this used to be common knowledge. A loaded gun doesn’t chew through it’s gunsafe and go over to the neighbors yard and shoot their cat. But a pit will.

Call a spade a spade. If you guys love the breed you gotta start being honest about it.

You don’t see akita owners taking their dogs off leash to children’s playgrounds. They know and respect the breed.

I shouldn’t need to carry a heavy sharp tool I can use as a breakstick and defense on walks, but I do. And it sure as shit ain’t cause of the spaniel two doors down.

This breed is not for everyone, I’ve had them since I was a teenager and my dogs have never bit anyone…I’m also not ignorant, I know the history of this breed…I will continue to have this breed. This breed is one of the most liked and hated dog breed in the world.

It’s all in how they are raised. . I have 5 currently and never had any issue. And have had pit bulls / staffi all my life never had issue. They have Been around newborns and infants and I dare anyone to try and harm or approach any child around my dogs. They don’t let strangers near …Any breed of dog can turn and attack …i have personally been attacked by large dogs on a couple of occasions, one was a golden retriever of all breeds that I would never expect …bit me 17 times before I could get him off me and the other was a German shepherd who got my hand and broke a couple of bones .there have been a Few times by various ankle biter’s especially poms , I’ve been bit and had more issues by more small dogs than big dogs. My wife has a pom and I know first had how mean they can be :+1::+1::v:

Pomeranians have killed zero kids though. Pits have killed hundreds.

Almost every person killed by a dog, is killed by a pit or pit mix. The statistics are damning.

These people raised their dogs from puppies and they tore their infant in half in a tug of war, killed the other kid, and sent the mom to the hospital.

A 7 year old girl was killed in Baton Rouge a couple days ago. Guess the breed.

Wait a week. There’ll be another one.

The common thread is always ā€œthey’ve never done anything like this beforeā€.

So…Rottweilers, Dobermans and German Shepherds too then, right? They all used to be treated, used and trained for fighting too…and were known as ā€œbreeds unfit for family petsā€ā€¦ they’ve ALL killed … even border collies, huskies and Chows- which are known as a ā€œhighly agressiveā€ breed…You’ve never owned one, or you wouldn’t believe the propaganda.
How a dog behaves is 10% genetics 90% how they are treated and trained!
Show your data that the only dogs that kill are pitty’s…because that is 100% wrong!

Then you’ve never known one or had one…Chows are more agressive to people than pits…pits are often agressive to other dogs…but not to people… learn the facts …there are other breeds just as if not more agressive than pits!
