I’ve been growing for a year and still don’t really know what is out there.
What if there was a mystery variety pack of beginner friendly old school or old school adjacent varieties a new grower could grow and get to know.
They would all have to be different enough so that one could tell them apart at some point. Perhaps a chem, a sativa leaning something, an indica, etc…
Mephisto had something similar in their starter auto pack: a Double Grape indica, a Walter White sativa, and a chem CDLC.
I recently got a Mystery Mix pack from @BackyardBoogie, who loves chems. It has been really fun to grow, in part because I am trying to figure out what they are.
Combining both ideas: a novice mystery pack.
What varieties may be good candidates to include?
My thinking is for a new grower I’d suggest a single easy strain so they can get a run under their belt and their jars full then they can start getting all fancy.
Yes, a quick and easy solid Indica or hybrid. Fems to keep it extra simple.

Good ideas never die!
The fems definetly helped me learn when I first started. Now I’m trying to move away from them more
Agree w others that starting w Fem seeds is smart. You will not waste time, energy and resources on unwanted males.
One thing I don’t agree with at all that was misleading for me was trying to learn autos before photoperiods. I feel like you need a better eye for nute sensitivity and a better understanding of nutrients in general before you hop into autos.
I have been thinking about it in terms of families, with suggested exemplars:
Hazes / Sativas: NL5 Haze C (Mango, SSH, Amnesia), Durban Poison
Fruity Hybrids: Blueberry
Afghani / NL lines: NL5
Chems: Chem 91
OGs: SFV OG (707 or CSI)
Kush / Hashplant lines: Kush × 88g13hp or NL2 × Puck
Skunks: UK Cheese
That gives two natural groups — one leaning more haze/fruit/uplift, the other more funk/fuel/kush. Could also mix them across groups for sharper contrast if someone wants to see differences side by side.
Would you add or change anything?
