I just made a bid on ebay for a strange guitar
Its a 96 Gibson so
Get this…three tv Jones filtrr.tron pickups and an obel…I don’t know why I bid on these things

Yeah been there I don’t do stoned eBay shopping anymore

Lol…I gues it would suffice as a “Jerry guitar”
But I usually buy guitars in person…just like my boots. They gotta fit.

Appreciated!

I’ve played the floor model of a guitar and then the unplayed new one they bought out had a bit of a different sound despite being the same model with the same specs. In person is the way to go whenever possible.

The wood makes the difference in tonality… Density plays a part in sustain as well… Even on the same model, wood is natural and therefore introduces variances… It might feel the same but it can sound different…

BTW I entered for the pickups… When I win, I’ll trade for some doobs… They wouldn’t work very well on my bass  lol

I did not enter for the pickups. It would just mean making another guitar.

I find these trade terms acceptable!

To a degree I think the “tonewood debate” is bullshit - for electrics. I have had an electric of the same model sound different than the floor model though, and had to ask them to bring another out which sounded like the floor model. There’s just quirks to some that give a slightly different sound despite being made the same. Could be density, could be the amount of solder they used on the pups, etc.

That sounds like a good problem!

I always play them before buying…don’t know why I bid on the sg. The best excuse I can think of…it looked cool. I bid low on ebay guitars and amps never close to asking because it’s just not the same as in person

I remember playing an SG for the first time and being so disappointed. The weapon of choice for Tony Iommi has to be killer right? Not in my experience. It felt flimsy as hell to me. The body felt like plywood and the way the fret board felt in the higher frets was gross.

I played ONE that felt absolutely perfect and that I wanted to buy…it was one of the cream colored three pickup models and it was 2000 dollars back in 2009…lol
Having said that Derek trucks.makes great.music on one
I guess if get the SG I will have to buy a blackface fender amp (with 12" jbls) to play it through right?
Lol

No guitarist… drummer… but love the show… self taught since I was 12 … started practicing led zeppelin then sabbath then Metallica then pantera then alice in chains then slipknot… and many in between… favorite of all time musically so far is the band TOOL… I have stopped on them as it’s very difficult to learn it by ear… but I am incredibly impressed and have been focusing on them since the early 90s… I have a 5 piece (expanding to 8 piece eventually) dw drumset iron cobra double bass all Zildjian cymbals… ROCK ON EVERYONE!!!

Every guitar needs a quality set up! I can have a squire strat plying better than most off the shelf $2k guitars!
This would surely be determined by the shop purchasing through tho. Some don’t do the setup until the purchase is made.

The setup will depend on how the player wants the guitar to perform but it should be at least playable from the factory.

Sure,… Imo, level frets and proper nut action should be 1st quality. String height and releif are players choice.

I need to get my Les Paul frets leveled and crowned. I play mostly blues and blues rock. My frets get flat pretty quick from heavy handed string bending.
