I have a condition where even light rubbing causes me pain. And just the act of strumming and my arm rubbing the edge of the body of a Tele (I had a G&L, it was a nice guitar, I ended up selling it) caused me pain and I could not practice for years (I am just learning) but I picked up a Peavey Strat copy and I found the arm bevel and the body cut made a world of difference. The Peavey can be had for $50-100 if you are patient and they usually have an issue like the wire to the output jack broken. I fixed it up, gave it a quick fret level and set up, played pretty good. Not quite up to the G&L but decently.

So I ruined the look of the guitar (I did not have any more of the finish I used on it) but I don’t care, just want it to be playable.

And it does make a difference. Not quite finished it, started a lighter version of it to even reduce the pain more. Sid not care too much on the looks. Hollowed it out as much as I dared.

And where I am today.

Just need to do the nut and set it up, oh right, the volume, tone control and jack need to be mounted (already wired). But something always drags me away from finishing it. Like helping someone on another forum with their amp building project, and posting this. But I will get there.

Nice work @bunny, I particularly like how you eased the front and back of the tele. Have you played your new creation?

No not yet, stared on the orange one before I finished it. I have the tuners on, the frets are in. Just have to do the electronic mounting and wiring. The orange one was started as a possible electric but morphed into what it is.

@anon98660487 My dad was cheap, instead of real Lego pieces we got this soft plastic brick shit and they were not as fun. I think it was the balsa airplanes and model cars that you put together which may have done it. And my did had some basic tools in the basement and a big vice to stick stuff in. A hacksaw and a file will allow you to do a lot… Learned be making mistakes. Just do the second one better.

I knew a DJ that had a problem with his headphones eventually falling to the floor. Being that the booth was 30 feet in the air his hew pair always ended up costing less and less than the previous one. So I took the remains of one and made up a mold to hammer form a piece of aluminum over it, making a shallow cup. I put the speaker part of it in there and then covered the spongy part with a thin suede. Joined them with two wires, could even been a coat hanger, made a padded part for the top of the head. Looked like something out of a WWII movie with the radio operator headset. He never broke it afterward.

So I can appreciate what you created there. You might like this one also. Flat piece of aluminum and hammer formed it on a form and then cut out the numbers and then painted it.

It was for a cigar box guitar contest. The only thing that the rules said was needed was a paint can lid had to be the resonator. Other than that we were suppose to try and impress the judges. Well, I did not even come in third. Seems something that I was missing was a square box rather than a guitar shaped object.

Managed to convert these and upload them.

How cool is THAT
I love this thread…

I saw an ad on Farcebook. Guy claimed he was shutting down his business and was selling off inventory, Gibsons and Fenders for $50. If you want to believe that i have this bridge over Brooklyn, a little creaky but user friendly I’ll let go for $100 cuz i need the money for Easter. :sunglasses:

What’s your favorite gauge of strings for electric guitar 9s-10s
Need some new strings

I tend to use the largest I can and still get at least a full tone (2 frets) of fairly easy bends. That is usually tens. But i have really acid oil in my skin. A set of strings may last a month. Tops. I use these they are coated. Last a lot longer. Probly 6 months. But they are about 12-15 bucks a set.

I don’t play that well to have $15 strings
On my guitar

Neither do I. But even changing out every 2 months vs once every 6 months it is cheaper to go with the elixirs and i dont have to change strings as often. A chore i reallydont like.

It’s unfortunate the internet has become a haven for scammers. I’m leery of buying anything through an internet ad or replying to some warning from bank, post office, government etc. If i get something from the bank that looks somewhat real, I close out and call the bank and ask what’s up.
