Our camp died off. We have 3 active hunters now dedicated to this camp with the wife and kid otw coming up…I have been hunting since I was 8 and have been tracking and skinning them all. Killed a bear last year, I hunt 10 acres with a muzzy bow and rifle occasionally. We go up to about 5550 feet in the mountains every year for elk. And deer are in multiple places. It’s on this thread brother. If you go to the top amd choose frequent posters and click my pic, it will show you all the posts. @Originalweedman
Thats awesome, we re cut from the same clothe brother. I loved skinning with my older brother ,he passed away at 38 from brain cancer . He was a great hunter .He was in the Fur magazine and a few other hunting things . I d love to hunt elk or moose. I hunt a small mountain out here.I ll definitly check out that thread .It s good to meet u brother,my names Joe.
Nice to meet you, btw it’s this thread. You can scroll up if you want…same clothe. I agree
My condolences friend.
Fuck ,that’s a dandy . That skull mounts gonna be insane. Hell of a deer… I regret not keeping the brain matter for tanning. I ve never done it but want to try tanning this year. My gramps was a legend at it and my older brother was a great taxidermist before he passed away . Maybe I d like to keep the tradition going.
Big deer, cool rack too…Awesome picture.
We tanned a hide last year. Still have it, it’s real nice came out great.
Did u have a kit? Or did u make ur own stuff? Is it hard to do? I f not I d love to hear how u did it . I remember when I was a kid my old man had a huge mountain goat hide he used as a blanket . I loved it.
Outta likes for 10 hours! Fuck!
I agree, that picture is both crazy and awesome. It’s not my hand, however. I may be crazy, but it does have limits! HA!
Now that, my friend, is truly awesome! Crazy awesome!!
I have done the same with a crazy non typical it was insane. Didn’t even care. Wow crazy stuff man. So yes we put the hide on a table and scraped all the fat and everything off the underside. Then we salted the hide for a while. Went through 50 lbs of salt. Then tanning solution for a while re applying and kneeding it in.
Thats so frigging cool…As hunters any moment like that is truly unbelievable. In 35 years of hunting I ve dreamed of a deer even coming close but to reach out and touch one in the woods is just a cool life experience.
Thats awesome, I ve hound a couple in the woods ,one was a spike skull,my friend bought it off me for 50 bucks, I didn t even want the money but he liked it so much he forced me to take it. I love looking for antlers after the season but haven t gone in awhile. I ve found some cool moose sheds and antlers.
OMFG ,Thats so awesome .I d love to get a couple of those and make a blanket. Does deer fur hold up good ? I always heard different stuff about it being hollow and it breaks easy ? Seeing your work makes me fired up to do some tanning .Great job man.
nice fox squirrel, and shot. I’ve also always processed my own venison. nothing like cutting the back straps out before you even skin the deer and run inside and fire up the butter and onion
Beautiful bucks man wow. Wr mainly hunt elk. Getting into the deer thing for the past 10 years…the hide came out perfect. It holds up really nice. We did put a ton of work in for it. I’m glad everyone is coming out the works and talking showing stuff off. It’s awesome pawsum. Wow those are some nice deer…
Getting mojos charged and ready tonight… gonna be a chilly morning but hopefully got some ducks in after this storm and before the cold snap thats about to happen this weekend…
Geese have been back and forth between ponds so if nothing else the buddy and me can take a goose limit…
Saw some high flying big ducks on the way home from work… hooe some came in abd decided to rest a couple days
Amen, best meet you can get . Love it
Fuck yeah man, thts a beaut …Great deer
