Any Sportscard collectors on Overgrow?

I used to collect sports cards years ago and found a few small boxes in the closet. It was fun looking through them. Nothing really valuable but fun reminders of the past. I used to be a big football fan with baseball and hockey my second favorites. I collected mostly football and baseball. Anyone else a collector now or in the past?

I used to collect cards a long long time ago.
I collected in the 90s mostly. Unfortunately in the 80s me and my older brothers would get hockey cards and play this game where you lean a bunch of cards against the wall and use another card to throw at them, to see how many you could knock down.

Fast forward to tbe 90s when i started to collect hockey cards and low and behold do i not have
2 mario lemieux rookie cards
2 brett hull rookie card
2 or 3 steve yzerman
Gretzky 2nd year
And a bunch of others awsome cards. Unfortunately they were in pretty shitty condition due to that stupid game we used to play. But i still have most of them anyway.

I also got a error eric lindros card from a pack of ohl cards in the 90s but didn’t end up being worth anything.

It kind of suck the card market fell off but they are still great memories

I have a few hockey cards kicking around. I have that second year Gretzky card and a few others like a signed Doug Gilmore, Felix Potvan and a Pavel Bure in his CCCP uniform. A few others I can’t recall off the top of my head.

From what I understand talking to my two neighbor kids (23 or 24 years old) the sportscard and non sports hobby took off during Covid and is still going strong. Not wild crazy like during Covid but strong.

Well really there was only one hockey team worth collecting back when I was collecting. So I had my Trottier RC and Bossy RC

The sports cards I got came from doing antique shows and I just ended up with them for one reason or another. Wasn’t something I was after, just happened, lol.

I still have a few hockey cards and a few sets from 80s and early 90s. OPC and upper deck mostly and many other singles in card holders. I’ve sold and traded many over the years and gifted many as well.

In a neighboring town there is a Womens Shelter where abused moms (once in awhile a man) stay while they are helped to relocate or just a place to feel safe for awhile. I buy any and all cheap sport and non-sport packs I see at flea markets and yard sales and donate them to the shelter. What’s nice is most of the people I buy them from cuts me a deal even lower then already low. Kids don’t usually know who the players are but smile while opening the packs up.

I wanna start over with you bro let’s pretend all that didn’t happen. I have a huge collection of baseball/football/hockey cards from the early 90s. I used to be more into that and autograph memorabilia but my house was robbed as a kid and I lost a lot of it and never really wanted to get back into it. I lost a Julius Erving autographed high school jersey, Brian Dawkins and Duece Staley autographs, my brother lost his Brett Farve autographed jersey and we lost a ton of coins collected from my great grandparents. The only thing I have left is an autographed Warren Sapp football that was signed to me with my name so I guess that’s why they didn’t steal that

Also I know it’s not sports but I still have goofy stuff like this too. I had a ton of Pokémon cards I sold a few years back for a couple grand also

My prized possession is my nearly complete 1972 Topps Football set in what I will call pristine condition. I think I need 7 cards to complete it.

Yeah now those cards take me back!! This was the time in my life when I really enjoyed hockey living up in New York. I think the Islanders won like 11 Stanley Cups in a row in the 70 and early 80

If the Islanders weren’t in the Cup finals I would pull for Montreal, and if they weren’t I pulled for the Flyers

I remember buying Eric Lindros cards and was going to buy a house with the money when I sold them.

Those MAD cards are pretty cool. I have a teenage nephew who thinks MAD is the coolest thing ever and knows all about the history.

Yeah, my wife is a big fan so I bought both sets they released. They are fun to go through from time to time.

Ive been wanting to dig through my collection and hit up a sports trading card event or something. Mostly baseball cards from the 80s/90s, garbage pail cards, wwf/wcw, xmen, etc, just sitting in boxes for the past 30 years. Swear i spent most of my $ on cards as a kid, like i did with seeds over the past decade.

I’ve been retired now for 5 years and in the Spring, Summer and Fall I find plenty to keep myself busy. In the winter however I do get a bit antsy for nicer weather. So when I stumbled across the cards in my closet I got to thinking how much I enjoyed collecting, buying, selling, and trading. I enjoyed going to card shows the most I think seeing all those amazing cards I couldn’t afford to buy but got to hold. Lisa said to me that I should take up the hobby again after all these years and I agreed with her. I wouldn’t mind paring down my collection to maybe a top 25 favorites.
