Any tips for growing finicky OGs?

Hey guys! First time posting here. Been growing for a few years. Always been popping seeds of stuff that seems super hybridized and pretty bulletproof grow wise. Ended up getting some cuts of a couple different OGs. I was curious if anyone had some tips for environment, pot size, and feeding them. I’m in soil, under LEDs currently using both roots original and the soil makers, and feeding roots teas. They seem alot more sensitive to light and nitrogen but looking for advice from people with some experience. Thanks!

Welcome to OG!
In coco, I have to chase the EC downwards from late stretch to finish. If I get behind a little, they start to burn and get fussy.
Also found that many don’t like hard drybacks. I blew up a Bubba badly with drybacks down to 30% VWC or less. She hermed crazy last few days.

Ahh okay. I’ve been doing pretty hard drybacks in my final pots (5gals) in an attempt to not accidentally overwater them. I’ve only flowered the hellraiser once without any herm issues, haven’t flowered the skywalker yet. My yields were less than amazing but I was pretty happy with the quality despite a bit of over drying with a cannatrol.

OG likes extra potassium and cold temps. Best advice I ever got about it. Makes a huge difference

So maybe not light sensitive but heat sensitive?

A lot of original old school OG growers in LA figured out early that the quality was much better when they turned the temps down very low the last 3 weeks. They were using HID’s so it might be a little bit different with LED’s but they would recommend like 65*F. I don’t use LED’s either so I can’t really say for sure about that but I had great results with that advice

My sfv og cut is a calmag whore, and is super lanky and cant support herself, but damn is it top shelf smoke.

Skywalker wasn’t too fussy for me, fairly well behaved for an OG. She liked to stretch a bit. Man what a good smoke!

My opinion, grow finicky OG-types under LED lights and in soilless medium.

Reasons: LED lighting results in way lower radiative heat & much lower leaf surface temp than under HID, but with still great light intensity-----this remedies the heat sensitivity issue. In soilless medium, feeding is more easily adjusted and the plant responds much quicker to input changes----this can help mitigate toxicity or deficiency issues :+1:

That makes sense forsure. I’m in soil and definitely making adjustments to what I did last run. Thinking of raising my LEDs a little and bumping the intensity up. I think timing my transplants better will help me out a lot, I tend to keep things in whatever container they’re in for too long.

How long are you guys flowering some of these varieties for?

I find that the funky phenos seem to do this fakeout where they almost look ripe at like week 7-ish but then have a resurgence in flower bulking right after that. I’d still say most such plants are done inside 10 weeks, but that’s all personal taste

Yeah, I let my hellraisers go to day 75. Was debating pulling a little earlier but maybe they were faking me out haha. Here they are on day 40. These plants were moms that stayed in the pot too long and got locked out. We’ll see how they finish up lol.

Tips for growing finicky OG Kush? Yeah, don’t bother!
Pop a bunch of inbred OG seed and the one that grows the best for you is your best OG Kush.

Make calmag your best friend. Id use epsom every 3rd watering. Og loves extra calcium and id use bamboo stakes to hold her up.

Someone has to! Haha

I agree with the ca/mag recommendation too. Really helps OG get the vigor back. The potassium helps bring the yield up. And cooler temperatures bring out the dankness and terp profiles that everyone loves about kush. I highly recommend this product from advanced nutrients. It’s specifically formulated for OG kush strains.
