Just for fun I grew this auto under my 250w MH which is roughly 4200k temp and pleasantly surprised. Obviously there are plenty of CMH grow lights these days but just curious if you guys have experimented with a more blue spectrum for flower?
I’ve done it with a 4000k LED and the results were good.

Ideally would love to have separate MH and HPS but my vivosun 400w is interchangeable so can only pick 1 at a time. Love using blurple with HPS and yeah 4000k LED prob way more efficient than MH

Even more important to me than spectrum for the plants is the spectrum on my eyes. I find 4000k appealing.
And oh yeah for sure more efficient. This was a micro light and did a fantastic job.

After a few cycles in my first stealth box, in the early 2000’s, the original light was a 150 HPS, security light I gutted and refit to fit my box.
I then mated a 70 MH with the 150 HPS and that was magic.
It was that combo, I smashing my old harvest numbers, 2-3 ounces cycle, to 4-6 ounces per cycle, of packed away dried buds.
Of course, some strains offer more, than others.
Damn I’d need to deep dive to find those pics now.

Very nice man and my brother used to run a hot ass HPS in those days… bright artificial yellow sun shooting out of the apt haha. I actually started with a little 150 HPS too years ago fun little lamp

Spreading light is better than applying more power at the same spot, that’s why LEDs are so efficient at making each corner of your space grow bigger.
The same principle applies to HIDs aswell, it wasn’t because it was MH, it was because it’s another light source at different location.
Flowering under MH is not efficient, you want the most photons in your space, colors (spectrums) are 3rd (1st output 2nd spread) when you calculate which light to use at what stage.
But it’s a nice experiment to flower under different wavelengths.
It takes so much power to create UV, Blue, Green that it kinda rendering their purpose to begin with
People had more success with the old 860w CDMs as they had enough raw power to create enough photons and in close to sun colors.

I have a dual socket light housing from Sun Systems, that allows me to have both, just not at the same time. Very convenient.

I used to run a 6500k MH (reef aquarium bulb) in my veg room. It was blue and the plants loved it.
Always had hps in the flower room though.

I flowered under a 315 watt CMH (i believe it was a 3850k bulb) and my results were very similar to original post 
Veg growth was AMAZING under CMH but i feel like the flower growth & results were “good”, buds leaned leafy/airy vs flowering under LED lights.

HPS was and still is the king of HID bulb, no matter the kind, simply because of their output.

I run both MH an HPS during flower currently running in veg is a 1000 n 600 MH today I’m gonna switch out the 600 for another 1,000 MH so will be running 2 1000 watt MH

Damn, I had to hunt this one down, LOL!!
From my Christmas box, running 5 strains, as we used the plants to decorated for stoner sampling party. It was great fun.
MH is an awesome bulb. great in veg, great as a blend with HPS!!

My first grow back in like 2010 I flowered under a 1000w HPS and a 440w MH. That was the only time I ever used HIDs but it seemed to me that the plants that were directly under the MH were significantly more frosty but also shorter. Could have just been genetics though- was a tangie clone I got.

It’s an amazing plant that isn’t as picky as we growers are as to what lights it truly likes. 
HID ruled the roost for decades. They are still great lights. Very versatile and tailor made for that good old stoner ingenuity everyone ran on back then 
…everything from huge reflectors to running rooms full of bare lamps. Fun and profitable days, for sure.
Super cheap gear right now…sometimes even free. Just gotta catch the guy with the FOMO dumping it all for LED

we did back in '83. we had a 400w and a 500w light. i could continue describing that grow, (hydro, btw) but i have before and it’s irrelevant to most here.

I own plenty gear in the HIDs realm and would never trade even my 250w Chinese ballast for the best LED there is

Anything that’s artificial and harmful just doesn’t appeal to me, even if some things about it are better.
I still flower under 600W 400v lamps
And they are rocking my buds
Also have a huge stash of high watt CFLs

I have a stack of old ballasts/etc. as well. I bought into the LED speel but they just don’t put out enough heat for my space so I’m switching back to HID. I’m hopeful that someone out there needs a couple of HLG panels for a decent price.

Mh kick ass in flower. Keep plants short and stout, ran one for years before led lights. Hps too yellow for my liking, plants love that blue spectrum. I remember stealing one at a construction site and rewiring it for mj use haha. This was before online growshops

Plants love photons, colors are not so important to them
The only reason they stay short and stout under MH or CMH is because they don’t have the qty of light like HPS to turn into monsters
HIDs are not good light spreaders, so high output is needed to balance it
I get short stout plants too under my 400w hps but the 600 and 1000 turn them into monsters if you let them
@Stiickygreen I also own a few high end 630w and 720w led panels
Anyone want them ? Yard sale, pay shipping only lol no one wants them in my country, not even for cheap
