Anyone else experiencing this when opening in new tab?

I’ve noticed over the last week or so, that if I open a link in a new tab then the top of the comment/post is cut off and I have to scroll up to see the full post.

It doesn’t happen if I open in the current tab, only in a new tab or window :man_shrugging:

It’s a mild irritation and no big deal really, I’m just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same?

Example :

Opening in a “new tab”

Opening in “current tab”

NB : I’m using Brave Browser v1.73.91 & Win10

Same! Using Slimjet browser (which is Chromium based) and Win11.

I browse by opening things in new tabs, almost exclusively, so it’s Real Annoying!

(It’s not a big deal in itself, just a minor annoyance Every Time I Open A Post that builds to be worse over time)

This was happening but it disappeared after a while on it’s own.

not to me, firefox browser and win 10. is brave built on the same engine chrome uses? i think firefox is different engine but it’s been a while. that may be the reason if they use the same engine. i had it happen to another forum i used to go to that was a discord forum but not this one. the other forum every time i opened a thread at all i had to scroll up to see the top of the comment. never this one though.

Hey @Mad_Barry !

Thanks for letting us know about this!

To figure out what’s going on, we’ll need to try reproducing the issue in one of the 4 major browsers that Discourse officially supports:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari (including Safari on iOS 15.7 and later)

Brave is built on Chromium, so it might have some quirks of its own that could be causing the odd behavior. Testing this out in one of the more standard browsers above will help us see if it’s a broader issue with the site or something specific to Brave.

If we can confirm it happens in one of those major browsers, it’ll give Discourse developers a clearer path to figure out what’s wrong and get it fixed.

I’m sorry, but there will always be some minor issues with minor browsers (e.g. the upload issue we had with Tor browser).

Thanks!

Im in chrome and the only hiccup I get is when going into a thread I posted in it says “draft open in another window”.

I can see the post every time in the thread so I just delete it and carry on but never thought to bring it up.

Strange… do you think it makes up new drafts out of the blue?

You can see all your post drafts here.

Check it few times and let me know if something comes up.

No idea.

I’ll make a post. Then when I got back to that thread to reply to follow-ups it loads and has the post I made prior loaded to edit and post as if I never posted it.

But I scroll up to see if I was just having a stoner moment and nope it’s in the thread.

I have learned to accept I am part magnet and that this makes our silicon overlords fuck with me at any given opportunity.

:person_shrugging:

I’ve had that happen if I opened the draft on phone and computer and posted it from one. It persists on the other. Haven’t had it happen if it was only accessed on one device though.

(also I’m literally part magnet, because I have a ring of magnetic titanium beads around my esophagus (linx device). I appreciate that it makes me a cyborg :robot:)

Hi @LemonadeJoe , thanks for your reply.

I just tested the site using Firefox and couldn’t reproduce the issue. However, when I tried Chrome the same issue was present, as when using Brave.

I personally refuse to use Edge and I don’t own any apple devices so I was unable to test Safari either.

I’m guessing it’s just a chromium based issue :man_shrugging:

Anyway, thanks for your help and fingers crossed the issue disappears with the next browser update :crossed_fingers:

Ya know this is a thing! I’m realizing that it’s solely phone/desktop crossover where this is happening!

Great add in!

I’m using Chrome and I’m seeing it occasionally. It’s not consistent and oddly, it’s been getting better (better than a couple weeks back).

Cheers

Hey guys, are you sure you’re not leaving those joints, I mean drafts half-finished?
:kissing_smiling_eyes::smoking:
It happens all the time. We start rolling a new one, only to realize there’s still an unfinished one just chilling in the ashtray.

I’m 100% certain I’ve posted each one and then moved on.
I’m certain because of my OCD.

I am also 24/7 logged in at all times on both my desktop and my phone so it’s really prob my fault tbh.

I have found that if I open a draft to post and then go to another tab while the draft is open, it causes a second draft to be opened on that second tab sometimes. Not every time but some of the time. Then, after posting, I will have to close the second draft. This is not new, though. I never thought much about it as I always have many tabs open, so I figured it was just a byproduct of that

Yes, that’s what happens now.

In the old version (pre-August upgrade), it was confusing because there was just one draft, and it had to be discarded to start a new post. With the current version, there are multiple drafts, and each is presented to you when you visit the associated topic.

Nothing is currently reported at Discourse Meta (developers forum). That said, I can’t exclude the possibility of a bug, so if you can reproduce the bug every time with the same steps, we can definitely work on it.
