I’ve noticed over the last week or so, that if I open a link in a new tab then the top of the comment/post is cut off and I have to scroll up to see the full post.
It doesn’t happen if I open in the current tab, only in a new tab or window
It’s a mild irritation and no big deal really, I’m just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same?
not to me, firefox browser and win 10. is brave built on the same engine chrome uses? i think firefox is different engine but it’s been a while. that may be the reason if they use the same engine. i had it happen to another forum i used to go to that was a discord forum but not this one. the other forum every time i opened a thread at all i had to scroll up to see the top of the comment. never this one though.
To figure out what’s going on, we’ll need to try reproducing the issue in one of the 4 major browsers that Discourse officially supports:
Microsoft Edge
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Apple Safari (including Safari on iOS 15.7 and later)
Brave is built on Chromium, so it might have some quirks of its own that could be causing the odd behavior. Testing this out in one of the more standard browsers above will help us see if it’s a broader issue with the site or something specific to Brave.
If we can confirm it happens in one of those major browsers, it’ll give Discourse developers a clearer path to figure out what’s wrong and get it fixed.
I’m sorry, but there will always be some minor issues with minor browsers (e.g. the upload issue we had with Tor browser).
I’ll make a post. Then when I got back to that thread to reply to follow-ups it loads and has the post I made prior loaded to edit and post as if I never posted it.
But I scroll up to see if I was just having a stoner moment and nope it’s in the thread.
I have learned to accept I am part magnet and that this makes our silicon overlords fuck with me at any given opportunity.
I’ve had that happen if I opened the draft on phone and computer and posted it from one. It persists on the other. Haven’t had it happen if it was only accessed on one device though.
(also I’m literally part magnet, because I have a ring of magnetic titanium beads around my esophagus (linx device). I appreciate that it makes me a cyborg )
Hey guys, are you sure you’re not leaving those joints, I mean drafts half-finished?
It happens all the time. We start rolling a new one, only to realize there’s still an unfinished one just chilling in the ashtray.
I have found that if I open a draft to post and then go to another tab while the draft is open, it causes a second draft to be opened on that second tab sometimes. Not every time but some of the time. Then, after posting, I will have to close the second draft. This is not new, though. I never thought much about it as I always have many tabs open, so I figured it was just a byproduct of that
In the old version (pre-August upgrade), it was confusing because there was just one draft, and it had to be discarded to start a new post. With the current version, there are multiple drafts, and each is presented to you when you visit the associated topic.
Nothing is currently reported at Discourse Meta (developers forum). That said, I can’t exclude the possibility of a bug, so if you can reproduce the bug every time with the same steps, we can definitely work on it.
