I’ve been looking at kits to grow shrooms on logs. Pretty interesting overall.

These work great… It’s commom to the people sell the already colonized substrate (i think that is ur case) or either the spawn (fungi “seeds”) to colonize the substrate. These mushrooms are really tasty probably some (P. djamor)… These with onions and butter… So fuc***** delicious!!

A company called Northspore sells kits of them over here in the west. Kits come with a spray bottle and you just cut an x in the plastic and keep her humid/wet. I’ve grown the pink oysters, blue oysters, lions mains and trumpets. All were exceptionally tasty, that’s coming from a former pro executive chef. You can get a few yields from them too. I hope you crush it and become overwhelmed with them so you can eat until your heart content!!

If you want to run the indoors and not use big logs you can use wood pellets like the ones for grilling and put them in unicorn bags. Very simple.

This’ll have to be an outdoor event. I have a few black birches to remove and want to do it using those.

Get yourself a 5 gallon bucket, a drill and some straw. You can put what you have into that and produce alot more. Also be aware mushrooms will release spores as they mature, they will drop all over your grow and light if you keep it there. I would grow them outside in the bucket if possible or in a seperate area like a large clear plastic tote.

I’ve done shitaake logs and they worked well. They took a couple years to start producing though. The thicker the log the longer it takes. It’s a great way to grow them though.

How many flushes would you get?hopefully a lot, wouldnt seem worth the wait otherwise

It depends on the size of the log. The larger the log, the longer the time, but the more flushes. You could get a few flushes every year for 5+ years. The initial labor of drilling and inocculating the log is about it. Then you throw it in a shady spot and maybe occasionally spray it with water during really dry periods. Other than that it is low cost and low maintenance. If I were producing for market then I would probably be considering using bags of substrate to have consistency.
