Anyone find their bong chips and cracks around the downstem?

I found on both of my glass bongs that removing and reinserting the downstem causes the area around it to chip and crack.

Is anyone else finding this?

Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Sounds like you’re manhandling your bong!

Twist then pull. Don’t just mash it

You got pics? Could be from cheap glass. Borosilicate shouldnt chip like that.

Ive noticed more and more soft glass being used in pieces that traditionally used boro.

I just slide the crystal into the boron slot. If you have one material that is way harder than the other, it can definitely cut into it and cause damage. That being said, there’s no way my ruby pearl is going to damage the crystal because they don’t rub together.
Some classic damage could come from like a hard edge of a mohs hardness 10 scraping against a mohs hardness scale 7.

Especially china glass.

My guess is glass quality/thinner glass is the issue.

I really like the Thick Ass Glass (TAG) bongs. It’s purely a tool. It is very think. Ive heard of people running them over with cars and not breaking. I have a 14" stick and a 18" beaker. Both are very solid pieces. I will say, the 18" beaker is hard to clean. I’m thinking about getting a 12" beaker. I like the way a beaker hits.

What other way would you handle a bong?:face_with_hand_over_mouth::face_in_clouds::joy:

With ginger down-feathered gloves, of course! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
