Considering buying a couple with the added rings… I don’t have any shops here to fit parts together …seems like it’d be a good starting point at least for the move over to coco.
Anyone tried it?

Just my opinion but it might be cheaper and better quality to just diy the same setup. You can find black trash cans pretty cheap locally from hardware stores or Walmart. The drippers, 1/4 tubing, pump, and pots could all be purchased from Amazon.
I use an autopot setup and i cant say enough about it , i can leave it alone for a week or more depending on what stage im at .
Cool yeah. I’ve spent a couple of hours trying to part this thing out on Amazon. It’s just too much of a pain in the ass with all the cross branding and checking. It’s not worth whatever $20 I might save in parts to have potential cross-brand, compatibility issues, etc. Not to mention most of these companies will only ship 100+ feet of hose up here at a time so I’m looking at $100 in hosing alone, with my fingers crossed hoping all the fittings and everything work together.
Then, if they don’t, that’s another month wait on the shipping to get everything returned and re-shipped.
It looks like it’s pretty standard as far as fittings go and all that. I’ll give it a shot.
I have both the LetPot and RainPoint wifi 1/4" auto-water pumps. Then I use a 27 gallon tote with air stones for the water reservoir. Both have worked fine for the past 2 years.
idk what kind of hose you’re buying. 100ft of 1/4" shouldn’t be more than $15
It’s a shipping issue. Most of the suppliers on Amazon won’t ship small amounts to Alaska.
I don’t need 500 feet of half inch poly and any money I might save on a DIY set up is out the window right there.
Like right here… this is the cheapest half inch poly I can find online. I’m spending $50 on the 1/2 inch alone….That doesn’t include the quarter inch, the pump and all the fittings, the res, etc. etc.
If I actually part this out and buy everything individually on Amazon, I’m looking at about $150 worth of supplies and a whole bunch of extra tubing.
On paper, It’s the perfect solution for my needs, and it’s on a prime sale rn, but never used sf brand for anything so wanted to check with og first.
The quarter inch I can find everywhere but for some reason, nobody wants to ship the half inch here… i’d really like to run a main line off half inch poly and then come off that with quarter inch vinyl/flex pvc to each pot
Looks like a decent setup if you can’t get anything else. Hate those sprayers, but looks like you’re going to replace them anyway.
No hardware, aquarium, pool supply stuff nearby?
Found this and bought it:
Goddamn, what I would do for a proper Home Depot… the idea of going into a store and actually building this out and buying each part on site sounds sounds amazing ![]()
@NoCal yeah we have hardware stores here but this is southeast Alaska so irrigation isn’t a thing here. No stores stock this kind of equipment and indoor growing is still very niche hobby. The only grow store we had went out of business last year.
I totally get it. I hate buying these kits, but it just seems like the right choice with the 20% off. I’d much prefer to buy each part individually, especially the pump and reservoir… but it seems like a decent compromise.
At the very least I could use it as a model to build my flower tent system. I’m gonna need two in the end. It has decent reviews on Amazon.
Kit looks fine, its basically what you’d end up buying from a hardware store anyway. Except you won’t have to buy 100 piece packs of each 1/4" fitting you want ![]()
@NoCal You get it man yeah exactly. That’s where I stopped, when I had five different fitting packs in my Amazon cart, trying to Reddit which brand of fittings work with which brand of pipe (on my phone) I just said, screw it and started searching for kits.
Thanks for affirming my choice lol
What’s your plan to catch runoff?
I’ll probably start out with them on cookie dry racks to lift them off with baking trays underneath until I figure out an actual drainage system.
I’ve been putting this off for so long because of how hard it is to get parts here so it’s gonna be a bit of a Janky migration to Coco. It’ll be worth it though.
Once I get the water there, I’ll worry about the drain then lmao.
Cross that bridge when you get to it… i like it ![]()
What do you use for drainage?
I guess I’ll come in and do daily cleanup shop vac style until I get some sort of pump/gravity system going. I bet that gets pretty messy
Raised trays with some kind of catch underneath. I’ve seen a lot of ppl using a shopvac to suck out any excess , just dont skip a day
![]()
Well, that would be kind of lame to set up an auto irrigation system only to have to come through the shop vac every day. It would be temporary.
I’m envisioning some sort of mini sump pump type of thing I guess… or maybe just a slightly angled tray with a drain on one side…
That’s a good point though I need to think about where the water is gonna go…
Do you ever reuse runoff in any way?
Not inside, I give it to flowers outside or down the drain.
Interesting… I mean, I only feed maybe 2/3 gallon every three days in peat.
So I need to stock up on nutes then ![]()
Would you say you burn through more nutrients in soil than versus coco?
Do you use watering rings? I got mine in the mail today and they have the same size fitting as the other brand… Half inch. Why??? I guess I misread the item I could’ve sworn it said quarter inch that’s why I didn’t go with the gold ones.
Half inch to a quarter inch barbed fittings don’t even seem to be a thing… can’t find em anywhere…I guess maybe I could just stretch the vinyl tubing over it but damn, that’s why I hate ordering all this stuff online.
Anyone around here use these types of rings and what did you do to connect to them, did you just run half inch on your whole system?
Almost every single irrigation system I’ve looked up runs half inch mainline and then quarter inch vinyl off of that to each pot. I imagine it’s a pressure thing.
Weird that the two main brands that make these rings both have half inch intake barbs. Frustrating I guess.
Ya those rings do say 1/2" barbed… that is pretty strange.
Did you end up buying the spider farmer kit??
