They are commercially available at nurseries and home improvement stores but never seen anyone on OG using them.
Good? Bad? Meh? Im hoping these are less of a PIA at topdress time than my typical barley straw mulch.
What are they made of? Coconut coir?
I like the idea. But i don’t know if they’ll affect ph of water going through them?
If so that’s no biggie i suppose.
Yup coco coir @BudWhisperer
Hadnt considered that
I don’t know anything about coco myself.
It looks like a tight enough weave of fiber that might help control fungus gnats. From escaping the soil. Like a layer of sand does but more breathable.
Me either but they are only like 1/4 of an inch thick. I cant picture that altering the ph a bunch as it passes thru. perfectly pre fit for the bucket anyway…
They should help insulate and give shade to the grow medium under them.
Works better than the homemade discs of non-porous cardboard i was using.
There’s a chart for seeing pot size to disc width.
Maybe soak in a buffer solution of calmag or ph?
I don’t think water passing through would be affected, guess a pH change needs more time to happen, looks like a great asset …
They look so clean and tidy!
@AppalachianBiscuits these might help you hate soil grows less
Hi George. Im not a coco grower but ive heard about coco holding calmag and that people pre soak in it to offset that. Any thoughts on this or is it not applicable for this use?
Right?! Give these lil sprouts some pride in their new homes! Being more accustomed to hydro, i appreciate a clean squared away tent
Hi man, I think that happens with “natural” untreated coco, these are made with just coco fibers so don’t think they need any kind of treatment …
love it! TY George
I grow in a bed of living soil and I think covering it with something like this would be cool. I thought about looking into something like this that i could get in sheets:
Jute fiber…interesting.
Business in front party in the back
I don’t think you can water through , it’s more intended to preserve darkness and humidity…
