Anyone able to help others apply for a cannabis microbusiness license in MN? I’m interested in applying, but have no idea where to start. Hoping someone can show a sample application or tell of their experience.

hokay. have you tried googling your question? just copy and paste your question into google like this: “apply for a cannabis microbusiness license in MN” Now you have a link answering it, like this: Cannabis Microbusiness License in Minnesota: Guide and More
yep. tried and just ended up confused. The link you provided doesn’t clarify anything. They look like they are just trying to sell a service and just repeating on that site what is already available on the state’s site. I’m looking to try to DIY it. Not even sure what an application looks like. Is it a form the state is going to supply? https://mn.gov/ocm/businesses/licensing/
There are Youtube videos too, but they are basically just lawyers trying make money and not anyone being helpful to the DIYer. At least that I have found.
yep, kinda frustrating. the lawyers have really woven a confusing web. I’m not even from MN. I found an online form, let me know if it works or if you’ve already seen this: Online Licensing and Payment System
Sorry, i can’t be of more help.
neat link to that hemp application, thanks for sharing it. I had not seen that before. Obviously it states that it isn’t for adult-use cannabis, but that offers a hint at what might be to come.
i kinda dig MN’s laws. 5000 feet inside, acre outside, can consume edibles on premises, and lot of other really nice features. hope it’ll work for you. it might be simpler than we’re making out. good luck. ![]()
Are you a minority or a convicted criminal? Unless you can check one of those boxes hood luck. Also fuck paying those ridiculous fees that arent even refunded if you dont get the liscene. .
Only our idiots in st paul take over 2 years to figure how to sell pot.
This video discribes how convoluted the whole process is.
The open license sales start February 18th. Prior to that it was necessary to be a minority or criminal. While some license types are capped to a certain number, the microbusiness license has no such limit. Thus all microbusiness licenses that meet criteria should get approval. The state legalized weed for money. The application fee is $500 for microbusiness. For microbusiness that would get you two years before a $2000 annual renewal kicks in. $500 for two years to be able to do more than I am able to would be worth it to me.
A new application process page from the state: https://mn.gov/ocm/businesses/licensing/process.jsp
What does the microbuisness lisence allow you to do? Are you trying to open a storefront? If i could grow and sell to dispensaries that would be good but i also dont want the state government up my ass and leaving a governemnt paper trail back to me whenever they decide to change the rules.
Your concerns are my concerns too. Sometimes you got take a leap of faith.
- Can operate: A single retail location. Can allow on-site consumption on a portion of its premises where customers can consume edible cannabis products and lower-potency hemp edibles.
- Can grow: Up to 5,000 square feet of plant canopy indoors or up to one-half acre of mature flowering plants outdoors.
- Can transport: Between facilities under same license holder.
- Can sell: Immature cannabis plants and seedlings, adult-use cannabis flower, adult-use cannabis products, lower-potency hemp edibles, hemp-derived consumer products, and other products authorized by law to other cannabis businesses and customers. The microbusiness with cultivation endorsement allows grows of up to 5000 square feet.
I’d be looking to develop strains. The space allows for better pheno hunts and more crop cycles compared to the 8 plant homegrow limit. I am not looking to open a typical storefront. Would like to prioritize selling clones locally or seeds nationally. Some flower could get sold to a dispo, but not in any sort of plans to do so sooner or later. It is a good option to have.
I would be interested to hear about how the lisencing process goes for you.
So fellow Minnesotan here! I am watching and figuring out a lot of this mumbo jumbo also. I think the biggest hurdle as you mentioned is just having a solid business plan.
I am watching your thread and will keep in contact throughout the process ![]()
I do not think your business plan matters how solid it is. Just got to have one, that is the minimum.
I’ve spent most the day off-and-on pre-filling out the forms provided by the state. The state provided a guide that states the minimum qualifications for each question. So, that helps. What doesn’t help is the application forms are one size fits all for the large businesses with multiple owners in multiple locations with bank financing, when I am none of that.
While reviewing my application files I’m going to be posting links to the originals here and try to describe what needs to be done with each. Please speak up if anything appears incorrect. I, in no way, know what I am doing.
The start is here at the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management website: https://mn.gov/ocm/
Follow the General Licenses button to here: https://mn.gov/ocm/businesses/licensing/process.jsp On this site is a link to all the worksheets(11) and the Cannabis Business License Application Review and Qualifications Guidance guide . All but one of the worksheets is fillable pdf’s. I’m not so sure about providing those direct links.
This makes two of us Growmie!!! Together, we can help one another ![]()
The guide starts with an overview including the review and reconsideration processes. Eleven worksheets to be filled out.
Page 11 of the guide finally starts the actual worksheet guides with the (1)Disclosure of Ownership and Control. Easy form imo. At the top is the box for your name and the company name. This appears on the top of many of the worksheets. For future reference, if none put N/A. List the owners and that they are the owner. List previous or other cannabis businesses owned; N/A. List funding source; personal savings. List of operating and investment accounts; N/A. List violations of license agreements or laws that are relevant; N/A. List each loan; N/A. If a corporation list managing agents; N/A.
The next document in the guide is the Capitalization Table(s). This is the only non-pdf worksheet. All worksheets need to be submitted in their original forms. For those unaware the tabs are near the bottom of this file format. Read the READ ME tab. May need to adjust the zoom on the bottom right. The third tab is Cap Table 1 - Primary, fill it out. Some of the boxes have drop down options that appear via an arrow on the right side of the box. If only one owner, then that worksheet is done.
The third document in the guide is the Preliminary Security Plan. This and some of the other worksheets have an box to check to agree to resubmit later once a physical business location is identified. Many folks are getting a license before having a location, not I. Describe plans for security monitoring; owner onsite, cameras. Plans for security equipment; locks and cameras.
Not sure how detailed anyone would want to get with these answers. Much of the application is public data.
