Are these thyroid issues?

Well the anxiety and stress cause physical issues, but also physical issues cause anxiety and stress lol. If you feel off your baseline for an extended period of time then it could mean something’s out of whack

I have those symptoms, also weight gain I can’t shake off and some depression.

Pretty sure my issue stems from it being hereditary (pops has thyroid issues).

Slow thyroid would be hypothyroidism - causes you to be tired all the time, gain weight easily and it’s almost impossible to lose the weight without medication.
The anxiety and weight loss etc. would fit more with hyperthyroidism.

Anyway, a T4 test is the usual screening test for either one. Problem is that test frequently comes up normal when the thyroid is not functioning properly.
To get a more accurate picture of thyroid health they would need to run a full thyroid panel. That would include TSH, T3, T4, and Free T4.

That inspired me to go back and look at my test results… fuck my memory is bad.

So I don’t know if TSH alone is accurate enough, but that’s what test they ran.

I plan to have a good chat with the doc, nice to understand the testing a little bit at least.

Anxiety is very common with hypo and hyperthyroidism. Also 10% or more of hypothyroid patients will actually lose weight. Our knowledge of the thyroid is rather patchy to put it nicely and blood tests often don’t give a complete picture, good endos treat symptoms not numbers.

Not trying to be a know it all btw just FYI :slightly_smiling_face:

@ChemicalDependant TSH is within ‘normal’ range, whatever the hell that is haha. Like Bullitt said a full panel will give alot more info.

@anon5325009 if anyone in your immediate family has thyroid problems you’re something like hundreds of times more likely to have them yourself (cant remember the exact stat). If you don’t use it already try switching to iodized salt and using it day to day. The extra bit of iodine might help your thyroid get into action!

DO NOT just start supplementing iodine with pills or whatever, it can cause more issues…trust me lol

A lot of valuable information in this thread. Thanks for sharing. I had issues brought on by bad teeth that affected my heart and ear. The ear had been itching for years no idea why. Tinitis too. Bad tooth. Extracted, anti-biotics. Then Covid is coming. I get a flu vaccine and 2 weeks later a pneumonia one.

Get real sick anyway in March. May have been it. Not sure. But walking and yogurt 2 times a day got me back to feeling good. Hate gonna be inside most of the winter.

I can peel shrimp and break out in hives…don’t think iodine would be good for me. Do have trouble with body temp after smoking sometimes.

Merry Xmas everyone.

In both groups, participants consuming more than two servings a week of yogurt had an approximately 20 percent lower risks of major coronary heart disease or stroke during the follow-up period.

Ya yogurt rules lol. My gf makes it in our instant pot so we always have lots for cheap.

Excess iodine might not be good for you, but you’d be dead or very close to it without any! In fact there’s a good bit in your yogurt and other dairy products.

cheese and yogurt are pretty much all I have these days. I avoid iodized salt. necessary? apparently I get enough anyway.

Well it’s pretty debated how much iodine people need day to day. Most people say 150-250mcg (that’s micrograms) per day is sufficient, but some think more is ideal.

You can look up rough iodine content of various foods and should be able to get an idea of how much you’re getting day to day from that. If it seems a bit low iodized salt could help you get a bit more.

@beacher , wow man, I just read your posts…keeping you and your family in my prayers. Merry Christmas :santa: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::latin_cross::v::peace_symbol::call_me_hand:

I’ve been dealing with the symptoms for a ridiculously long amount of time, that shit literally feels like you’re slowly dying . I still have one more test to complete before I can get 100% diagnosed but Doc said it’s definitely going to be hypothyroidism.

Put a drop of iodine in your morning drink, balances out the thyroid.

I’ve gotten myself back to about 80-90% health with lugols iodine over the last few months. I know that seems absurd as my initial problem was likely caused by kelp (iodine) tablets, but after reading 2 medical textbooks on the thyroid, and countless other books and published papers i came to the conclusion that it was my best option.

Since I’ve started iodine i no longer gain/lose pounds of weight overnight. I stay within a couple pound range no matter what i do. I can no longer feel my heartbeat in ny head/neck and arms, nor can i hear it anymore. That was nearly constant for like 18 months.

My hair has begun to grow back in properly, and it feels so much softer and better than it did. I’m also no longer freezing 24/7 and actually get hot sometimes lol. The changes in my body have been slow but pretty amazing.

Iodine is needed to make thyroid hormones, but the relationship is more complex than that. For someone like me who likely spent my entire life iodine deficient (i live in the ‘goiter belt’ and dont eat seafood), and has a genetic predisposition to thyroid problems, smaller doses of iodine on the microgram level seem to be almost antagonistic to the thyroid.

There are some interesting studies from the UN and WHO that seem to show this. Basically they find iodine deficient areas and start iodizing the salt there. They generally shoot for 150-250mcg/day as a rough goal for supplementation with the salt. Inevitably some of these people will end up hyperthyroid despite consuming only the amount of iodine that should be needed for basic sufficiency.

When hyperthyroid patients are given higher doses of iodine (milligram doses vs microgram) the vast majority will improve/recover. It seems like serum iodine levels need to get past a certain point to bring stasis to a thyroid that has nodes or other issues due to years of insufficiency.

Anyways, I’ll stop rambling lol. Basically iodine can be very helpful for some people, but don’t just blindly take it do research first. You can also get whats called an ‘iodine loading test’ to see if you’re deficient in it. Definitely avoid kelp supplements at all costs as they can also contain bromine and other halides which can compete for uptake with the small amount of iodine they contain.

Glad you’re getting benifit from it, I started using it 3 weeks ago 1 drop in a shotglass of water first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach followed by half a table spoon of organic apple cider vinegar in a pint of water.

I have noticed similar affects with hair feeling softer, and starting to grow back in where it was thinning. Trace minerals and a better functioning gall bladder from fasting is also helping in that area as well.

Its improving my moods well I think but I have made so many dietary changes in the last 7 weeks its hard to put it down to one thing.

Came off my blood pressure meds 3 weeks ago my BP has dropped drastically with the low carb diet and fasting, lost 35lbs now as well :relaxed:

I am about to ask the doctor to do my yearly blood work so will be asking if that can be tested as well.

The only way to get good treatment is to learn for yourself and take charge of your health, we are all different and one size fits all in health care and diagnosis fails a lot of people.

Damm dude that’s quite a tuneup there lol. You’re right that we’re all responsible for our own health now. The modern medical system has many flaws, but luckily we live in the first time where all the data and information is freely available.

If you get thyroid stuff done with your blood work you may show an elevated TSH which is normal for a few months after beginning iodine supplementation. If your t3 and t4 are ok and, more importantly, you’re feeling good and not having issues then don’t worry about it.

Good to know thanks, I think I will do some more reading on the subject as well, I have never eaten fish, so like you probably been deficient for a long time.

Also I was going to PM you about the Triangle Kush in the co op run has not appeared, when and if it shows up I will let you know man.

I’ll bump this thread. I have been having severe thyroid issues for over 6 months now. I’ve had to quit my job and many days eating and hygiene is all the energy I can muster. My initial TSH score was 94. The care and knowledge I’ve received from doctors is laughable at best and just downright scary otherwise.

I started taking synthroid which made me super sick for months. I’ve recently switched to Tirosint, which has helped with the stomach issues, but has done nothing to make me feel any better. Really, I feel worse now then before I started going to the doctors. I would suggest anyone having these issues should read Thyroid Healing by Anthony Williams. I still have a lot to learn. I’ve been to two doctors. Both have been completely unhelpful. Going to schedule an appointment with a naturopath hopefully next week. Wouldn’t wish this crap on anyone. It’s completely turned my life upside down.

Good luck with the naturopath I hope he has better treatment for you.

This is a vid on thyroid function and what is connected to it to make it work properly. It may be a problem else where affecting your thyroid.
