as a breeder how do or would you feel seeing one of your created strains in the dispensaries? This just happened to me, pretty cool in a sense that my strain is being used and consumed by other folks besides yourself, I end up buying a 1/4 to see how they did and I can say they are spot on, as the strain makes a sour nose like no other. I grew the strain a bit back you know as a tester and it was one of those I needed to get back to and grow some for the head stash. none the less though back to how i feel, i would love yo somehow get credit for being the breeder, I mean i list my stuff on seedfinder.eu and do what i can, but what are the feelings if this happened to anyone here??
I would say you should get credit for a strain you created. How did they end up with it?
Iāve been seeing companies take old names and apply them to new strains like CALI-O but it is some GSC orange derivative cross.
@DougDawson hello my friend from way up north, i most likely either gave them out as freebies at a few canna fest they have here or perhaps they may have bought them? sorry i should have mentioned that.
@CocoaCoir yeah ive seen cannabis places use other names to describe their stuff, but this one was spot on. Taste, smell , and buzz. They did give credit at a different dispensary or more use the description that is on seeddfinder eu. just not breeder credit. They did test it out at 23% so thats good
I think thatās pretty cool as long as credits given, Iām not a big fan of dispo but Iād love for more people to try the strains that I put time and care into.
To be fair, once that seed is no longer in your hand it is not your plant. Most varieties out there give no credit to the breeder, and the end consumer doesnāt care. Do you care who bred that tomato you bought in the supermarket?
So, I would be flatered that some work I did made it to the public at all. Hopefully other growers find out who made those seeds and come to you for some more. That to me is where the recognition is desired, amongst the growers. So as long as you gain a reputation as someone who can produce commercially viable varieties you will sell plenty of seeds, get your varieties out to the world and have the recognition where it matters. And for those who want to dig deeper, the information is there in places like Seedfinder.
Howdy @blendmedmedman, I think thatās the ultimate as a breeder, creating things we like that are in turned enjoyed by and preferred by others. Especially if popular with the masses.
And if youāre breeding and trying to sell seeds thatās a huge aspect that can be leveraged for monetizing if you still have original stock, ancestral stock, and/or stocks made from further work with those genetics. You just need to be able to prove the pedigree of whatās being sold at the shops comes from your work. I would be so happy if it were me. To create something well enjoyed by many is a dream. Even beyond any potential monetary gain, its still a dream to have genetics with popular fame.
You mentioned wanting to receive credit for the work. How did you know the product being sold in the dispensary is from your work? Iād start there for how to gain that notoriety. Did you name the freebies you gave away something unique and saw the same name at the dispensaries or something like that? Many blessings and much love
@Sodapop oh im stoked to have made it in there. I put work into in the strain just like everyone here.
@SmokingGun o just always thought the breeder got credit somewhere. I guess were just the ones with the good ideas with what strains to use. I dont sell many seed but I do enjoy passing them out when i can, i guess Im happ as im getting the strains out there but it is work no doubt.
i grew the strain out to test it, I know the smell the funk and the buzz. Yes I do label everything. I have strains in packs with stickers or my brand on them I list on seed finder as a way to say i made such strains and what i used. the strain i speak of did give credit to the what was used, just not the breeder or who the seed came from. Oh you bet i still have some of the ORG stock, , Iy grows nice but the funk it makes is unmistakable from when i tested it, same funk same look of the bud ect. i bought an 1/8th thinking they used the name but the but came from the seed stock i have on hand
I guess I am very happy cause I have seed i can grow that I dont have to spend high dollar at the dispensary, just for my strain, I was curious cause of the name.
When I was working at the medical dispo as an incoming patient consultant basically the only way you could have credit was to sign an exclusivity contract so your stuff couldnāt be vended anywhere else, I pushed so hard to get anything in the door there but they had a pretty hard line contract with Cookies that consumed most of the grow.
In the ny market I have never seen a breeder mentioned for any flower
In CA it is almost non existent. I did see āMean gene lvpk xā recently to describe a cross and it stuck with me because it was the only time Iāve seen that. Unless it is coming directly from the breeder, it is just the strain name.
The other fun thing is you can change the name to whatever you want.
Finally getting a couple people to understand the thc number is ![]()
Thatās a great way to start proving provenance. I imagine so often things get renamed and actual credit never gets to the originators so by them using the name you gave it and thatās already been previously documented as well as still having originals I think that puts you in a very favorable position to receive that credit.
If it were me, I would try to get in touch with the dispensary and see if they grow it or if someone is vending it to them. The goal being, trying to get your name as the breeder listed on their retail platforms. Having things with timestamps proceeding whoever has it currently would probably be quite beneficial in accomplishing this. If whoever is growing the stuff being sold at the dispensary is the same person you gave the freebie packs to, or can trace their stuff to those packs that would be great. They could help in letting others know who to give credit of the breeding work to. Many blessings and much love
I would personally be humbled. No many growers are out there for the fame and recognition⦠well, I suppose thatās changing.
But in all the years Iāve smoked and purchased from CA dispos as well as a few other states, not one had linage or breeder information. I honestly think that would be rad if they did. In reality, there are not many budtenders with the knowledge to even push that info.
There have been a few notable strains that Iāve smoked an love so much that I found where to get the seeds (Burger crosses from Skunkhouse, 24k from DNA⦠ect). With the way things roll on Seedfinder now days, I donāt consider them a reliable source of information. And as time goes on, with legalization becoming more prominent, itās going to become harder to get your name out there, if that your spiel. So many fantastic breeders to contend with and so many more that are not in the limelight.
I would smile and move on. Itās rare that I visit a dispo now. Unless Iām bone dry, I donāt go near them. Itās quite the achievement that you found your strain - you even got to buy a 1/4 and an 1/8th⦠neat.
You seem to be kind of unsure, so how do u know for absolute fact that itās your pheno?
Congratulations !!!

You have arrived where most of us wish to go. However, as far as gaining the recognition, I think you are boned.

Seedfinder.eu is the closest thing we have to a āregistryā, l just wish they added a date to each data entry.
Cheers

I never know the breeder of any food i buyā¦unless i want to grow myselfā¦i just know the farmer/brand
Same is true of cannabis for the most part as a consumer.
I would hit up the farmer on email or social media, tell them you loved their product, you are curious as to what strain/cut/where did they get the beans from?
Their answer will tell you alot about themā¦and if they are cool? Tell them you are the breeder, and you want to come see their facility.
Why wouldnt you use this opportunity to network and possibly find a new path in your life
I will just capitalize the fuck on this.
In term of marketing-boost itās better than a little cup, and the continuous ādisplayā is insured. If you donāt planned anything for the line or to catch the opportunity that the weed gave ⦠there is no feeling to have at all, but maybe a legit pride imho ^^
The weed game is made from looping cycles, this weed will have her time like all others. Itās a āride or watch the trainā game.
