I’m a new grower with limited success so far, in total I have harvested ~10g of NL out of a handful of plants started. I’ve always had a brown thumb, but getting greener (proper motivation helps, as does Coast of Maine bagged soil!). Right now I have a little bonsai mum going as an experiment (freebie critical from RQS) and I just started a couple of Raspberry Cough seeds from nirvana. I’m running spacebuckets right now, planning how to expand my grow area.
My goal is to grow good medicine for myself and maybe a couple of friends, collectively coping with arthritis, inflammation, pain, and fatigue. I’ve tried a handful of strains with some success, but I suspect that the best medicine is to be found in landraces/ibl’s that aren’t sold in dispos. So I’m interested in exploring strains, especially older or less common genetics, with emphasis on a full range of cannabinoids.
I have some more nirvana beans to run; Raspberry Cough, Maui Waui, and Aurora Indica. I’m planning on doing perpetual runs to grind grow experience, and I’m optimistic those strains should be pretty good medicine.
Where else should I look for genetics? Kwik/RSC looks pretty interesting, as does Hoku. I’m open to any suggestions, I’m not really enticed by hype but anything that y’all have tried personally I’d love to hear about.
Are there any specific skills or techniques I should be working on? Any useful books I should pick up? I’m going to keep growing perpetual to get the basics down, eventually I’d love to do some preservation and improvement (I do have a fairly restriCTive plant count though). There’s a big soft spot in my heart for biodiversity and preserving old genes. (I keep some rare breed ducks, and I’m looking into starting beekeeping as well).
Thank you! Very glad to have found this corner of the internet.
welcome! I’m pretty new as well, have had technically two rounds of plants not go as planned. I don’t have specific suggestions, but I hope your journey gets smoother!
OG is a great place to learn, and has so many people willing to help. As you get involved and explore, you will glean so much information. Whether one can apply that information depends on the individual so far a work in progress for me.
(also if your plant count capitalization was intentional: hey ~neighbor!)
This site is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge and people willing to help out.
Don’t ever be scared to ask questions, even if they seem stupid. Everyone here had to kearn the basics at one point, and youd be hard pressed to find anyone who knows it all.
There are a lot of reputable breeders to choose from, top of that list for me will almost always be Bodhi.
He uses great genetics and he has plenty of obscure and medicinal varieties available.
Some of my personal favourites of his are Soul Mate, Dank Sinatra & Mango Hashplant.
Welcome to OG! This place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and you’ll always get back more than you put into it.
That said, it appears #1 thing you’ve done your homework on genetics you should have great success with the gear you’ve mentioned.
Couple of things in my opinion: I would advise a 2’x2’ space per flowering plant and be able to provide at least 800 ppff to the canopy top.
Have air blow across the top of the plants and also below-canopy. These do not have to be fancy oscillating fans, just have air moving.
Something a buddy taught me, always buy an oversized carbon filter for the inline fan that you have. Example, get a 6" fan for a 4x4 tent and get a 8" filter abd flange. This increases filter life and overall fan flow. An 8" filter is FUCKING HUGE though, so just a heads up
Welcome homie! Ive always had really good results using Bruce banner crosses and chemdawg crosses for daytime inflammation and fatigue. (Bruce banner from darkhorse or crosses from Night Owl) Most kushes (OG, TK and crosses) also work really well for inflammation but often knock me out cold for the night. Everyone is different though. My buddy gets opposite reactions as me for most kush and chem so you really gotta try things and see what works best for you.
The strains you plan on growing sound like they have a lot of potential. I have smoked some really good maui wowie that checked all the boxs for the conditions you are looking to treat but havent tried the other two.
Welcome. There are reputable clone vendors like @hoss8455 and Farmer Joe 420 on IG with clean cuts for sale. Grow 1 and get an idea of how well u grow good weed.
Welcome! Gotta agree with Stu OG/TK stuff is top notch for pain meds. I love CSI’s TK work the best personally.
But also gotta toss my 2 pennies in the Bodhi pile. In terms of best medicine for me pesonally, nothing beats his stuff. Ive ran a buttload of 88g13hp and Wookie crosses, and havent found 1 that wasnt really good for pain. Best of luck on your search!
@a18t i bred it from landrace thcv has been found in good quantity and many more cannabiniods its a syrian X Lebanese cross its semi auto so it can be kept in veg indoors but intiates flower at 14.5ish hrs light so full flower in summer the bees love it
Best thing you can do is grow more pot, in my opinion. If you have the space and time make use of it. If you have local grow stores clones can be an easier road than from seed. Don’t overwater. Try to grow a bunch of plants.
That sounds just about perfect! Mrs. a18t calls me “Gandalf the Plaid”, because of my wardrobe and facial hair choices and how seriously I take Tolkein’s mythohistory.
Sound advice from the OGs. Bodhi CSI you know your gonna get what your buying. There stables are legit. TK 1000 from CSI has been one of my favorites and I’d also say pop as many seeds as you can and variety and find what you like
+1 for Hoku Seed Co. I have a bunch of their stuff and grew out a their Japhy, a really nice CBD strain. I also grew out Ace Seeds CBD 1 and the Japhy was so much better IMO. Hoku experiments with all sorts of Cannabinoids and are constantly moving forward in their breeding. Looking forward to diving into their CBG and THCV stuff as well plus they do a bunch of fun crosses with type 1 plants. Anyway, keeping growing and learning!
