Edit: After many comments in this thread, I think it’s safe to call this an heirloom strain.
@BigF got his hands on a few Chihuahua landrace seeds that have been grown by the same extended family in New Mexico for several human generations.
New Mexico is high in elevation, very dry, with cool nights all summer, along with late frosts. Growing season is shorter than many other places, and the climate is unreliable. Because they’ve undoubtedly acclimated themselves to New Mexico, I feel correct in calling them a local landrace. Maybe even IBL.
I think this is going to translate into a Chihuahuan with shorter growing times, with good drought tolerance. Since selection for illicit sales has been the primary purpose, in smaller fields, it should also be quite potent.
I’m calling it Atrisco because that’s an area in South Albuquerque that has a catchy, New Mexican sounding name. As far as I know, its stewards just call it Chihuahua but it hasn’t shared genetics with Mexico for a very long time.
So I’m going to do an open pollination this spring for interested OGers. And myself, since I’m going to clone the best lady for personal smoke.
Since there are 11 seeds and I don’t have a lot of space, I’m going to grow them in smaller pots and up-pot the ladies when they make themselves known.
This will be an indoor grow.
I’m using Root Riot pods because I’ve always had better luck with them.
I put them in pods and into my cloner about five minutes ago. So seeds should be mature sometime before Labor Day.
Thank you to @BigF for making this grow a possibility. ![]()
