Atrisco Chihuahua Landrace/Heirloom OP project (Chapo Brick)

Edit: After many comments in this thread, I think it’s safe to call this an heirloom strain.

@BigF got his hands on a few Chihuahua landrace seeds that have been grown by the same extended family in New Mexico for several human generations.

New Mexico is high in elevation, very dry, with cool nights all summer, along with late frosts. Growing season is shorter than many other places, and the climate is unreliable. Because they’ve undoubtedly acclimated themselves to New Mexico, I feel correct in calling them a local landrace. Maybe even IBL.

I think this is going to translate into a Chihuahuan with shorter growing times, with good drought tolerance. Since selection for illicit sales has been the primary purpose, in smaller fields, it should also be quite potent.

I’m calling it Atrisco because that’s an area in South Albuquerque that has a catchy, New Mexican sounding name. As far as I know, its stewards just call it Chihuahua but it hasn’t shared genetics with Mexico for a very long time.

So I’m going to do an open pollination this spring for interested OGers. And myself, since I’m going to clone the best lady for personal smoke.

Since there are 11 seeds and I don’t have a lot of space, I’m going to grow them in smaller pots and up-pot the ladies when they make themselves known.

This will be an indoor grow.

I’m using Root Riot pods because I’ve always had better luck with them.

I put them in pods and into my cloner about five minutes ago. So seeds should be mature sometime before Labor Day.

Thank you to @BigF for making this grow a possibility.:pray:

Very cool :metal:

Wouldn’t this be considered “heirloom”?

Awesome to see those beans are about to get busy!
The source of the beans, his family has been in the Atrisco area for a long long time, so the name you are using is spot on.
He told me the strain didn’t really have a name, that the only thing he ever heard it called was Chapo Brick, apparently not El Chapo, but someone else.
Though I am personally not a Sativa enthusiast, I was impressed with the smoke he shared with me. He is going to be stoked the beans are getting run!

Yes, probably.

That’s awesome! I just picked the name of where my daughter’s high school was.:rofl:

Is that family still growing it? Seems that they would have a better/natural breeding gene pool to make the best offspring.
I would also consider that they have introduced other lineage at some point in time. The descendants of the original farmers never looked at the crops as heirloom. They always tried to improve their own by introduction to neighboring crops.

They are, but I already have as many seeds as I can manage. I don’t personally know them and if they were interested in passing them out to OG I doubt we’d be having this conversation. :woman_shrugging:

Anything is a possibility. Let’s see what’s in this heirloom. If anyone wants to try it, they can. If they don’t, that’s fine too. I do know for sure that if the line has been hybridized, that happened before the memory of its current stewards. I’m just doing what I can with what I’ve been gifted.

Personally, if it’s a unique line filled with fire, that’s something good.
