Authentic Genetics Seed Company

You can ignore the facts because they don’t fit your storyline, but making shit up is just bullshit.

You can also admit flat out that 4 years of growing doesn’t make somebody an expert.

Ohhhh, John Doe is an expert grower because he had 4 years of experience growing before he started his seed company - said no one ever.

For the record, since I got out of prison, I have not even been interested to make documentary or write a book about my own life, never mind Nevil’s. I never called Nevil and asked him about writing a book about him nor would I. The last time I spoke to him was on the phone when I got out of prison and he was quite nice to me. I have never had or had a reason to have a cross word with Nevil. Also, I have never had, nor do I have, an interest in writing a book about Nevil. The article I wrote after he passed titled; Legacy of a Legend, came together spontaneously because I got the information about the rat in his case (Raymond Anthony Cogo) just 2 or 3 weeks before he passed away.

I also don’t feel that talking about the true history of someone is trashing them. It is fact that he started growing sometime after 1980 and it is fact that he launched The Holland Seed Bank in July of 1984, with seeds that he gathered from kilos found in coffee shops and none that he had grown himself.

The facts are just the facts. It seems like a lot of my Dutch friends want to make bullshit up and pretend like he was a hero and pretend like guys like Skunkman Sam who was WAY ahead of Nevil in breeding as shown by the amazing article Skunkman Sam wrote in 1979 in BLOTTER magazine titled; Sun, Soil, Seeds & Soul, were not the real heroes preserving the genetics that they provided Nevil.

Funny that Nevil never wrote an article about breeding even close to the article that Skunkman Sam wrote a year before Nevil even got his hands on his first Mel Frank book.

https://www.thecannachronicles.com/sun-soil-seeds-soul-1979/?fbclid=IwAR1XvTQFW35V6EkVxOzef4ukjFtJbTwzMCN2XuClyjmCpwdfmMtWdmS3N1Q

You can keep your hero worship to yourself, but the facts are the facts, and as much as I respect the work that he did do with other peoples genetics, the truth is is that Nevil did not have very much experience growing cannabis when he started his seed company.

And I’ll say it again, if Nevil had ever actually had male and female original Haze plants I have no doubt that he would’ve made F2 seeds. Every grower on OG understands why.

I don’t know what your grudge with Greg is nor do I even care. It’s easy to act like an asshole when you’re doing it anonymously behind a fake freaking name.

Thank you for the update, it’s really nice to know you found a keeper out of 3 seeds.

Hi Todd i asked Nevil before he past away if he knew you and if you had stayed with him at the castle Nevil said no i just met Todd once at an even in Holland we chatted for an hour.

I was a close friend of Nevil so let me fill you and others in on just a little of his Haze work with the pure haze he bought from Sam a few weeks after Sam arrived in Holland.

Nevil did make pure pure Haze seed but they grew into HAY he even reversed HzC male and breed HzC to its self he called that HzC Square.

Nevil said the best came from out crossing Pure Hz to unrelated lines. The more you inbreed Haze the worse it got.

Nevil has documented his Haze story ward for ward and it will be posted some time in the future.

Nevil believed the way forward was to Hybridize Haze to a old school Sativa but wont go into detail.

Nevil was sent the NL seed he alone worked the lines and i believe there was NL 1 to 8 the guys that had sent it to Nevil lost them.

Nevil’s 2 year anniversary is coming up in 5 days its a sad thing to see people talk of Nevil like he contributed nothing to the cannabis community when most are using his work to this day in there breeding.

This is an interesting Pod Cast.

Having grown a bit of original haze over the years from flying dutchman and seedsman stock I have never seen any hay plants. Not from stock I bought or future generations I made. Haze makes great hybrids no doubt, but it has always been great smoke just the way it is in my garden. :dash::dash::crazy_face: Looking forward to checking out authentic genetics original haze soon.

There was 1-11 and nevil was a great person , we talked a bit about his interest in CBD and how he realy just wanted to see cannabis be free to help as many as possible who could benefit from it. I was so excited to see him finally able to come back to what he loved but it unfortently did not last long. He definitely deserves to be remembered as the king of cannabis.

Hi Hempy,

A few things, I have admired Nevil since I first read about him in the 80’s in High Times and I feel like I portrayed that admiration in the article I wrote about him after he passed away.

One of the elements I admired most about him was that he was not some pathetic ex junkie who used his addiction as a sympathy pillow, he was so matter-of-fact about it being shit and he was not looking for sympathy from anybody, even himself it seemed. As a child who grew up with bikers and had my cousin die from a heroin overdose, I could really appreciate Nevil’s flat out realism about what he had struggled with and how openly he talked about it.

When I first arrived in Amsterdam and visited the castle it was in November of 1994, which was after Nevil was living there. The first night that I saw Nevil he did not get my name because I was with Jack and others and Nevil and I were not formally introduced. It was the night that they were debuting the variety “Jack Herer”, Nevil was staying out of the way, but he wanted to say hi to Jack.

When I stayed at the castle in the spring and summer of 1996, it was with Alan Dronkers and Nevil was not there and I never said that he was.

Also in the year of 1996 (I lived in Amsterdam from Nov 1995 till Dec 1996), I had spoken to Nevil multiple times on the phone after we ran into each other somewhere in Amsterdam (I was at the time the editor-in-chief of the english edition of HIGHLIFE), it may have been around the time that Nevil was starting to work with Arjan and Scotty, because that’s when I think he gave me his phone number and we made plans to hang out which we did one night, Nevil and I played chess and smoked Haze (he brought me a bud and let me keep the seed that I found in it) and it was really cool night.

I’ll never forget sitting there smoking and playing chess with him when I found the seed, and I expressed, “I hope it’s a girl!”, and he smiled and said, “No, hope it’s a boy, that way you can breed it with all of your best girls.” I held onto that one seed like it was a piece of gold and smuggled it home with me and it did turnout to be a boy, but the feds destroyed it in my 97 bust.

I did not reach out to Nevil while I was being prosecuted because I thought it would be disrespectful. I actually did not reach out to a lot of my friends because I did not want to compromise anybody with the heat that was on me. I knew I was going to prison because I wasn’t cooperating and I was cool with it. When I got out of prison, I was calling everybody again and I got Nevil’s number from Soma and paid my respects. We had a totally cool conversation and that was that.

I will also admit that I had a bit of hero worship at first when I met Nevil. As a student of martial arts I have always been taught to respect my elders and that respect continues into my entire life.

But over time, the stories that I was told by the Dronkers, and Nevil about Haze and its origin just didn’t pan out. I spent over a year with old Ed Holloway who turned 80 years old in 1996, and had his own view on how the Holland seed scene formed from his experience working with Wernard in the late 70’s and early 80’s, before Nevil even started the Seed Bank.

For those who are reading this and don’t know, old Ed and Wernard were the guys who first sent someone over to California to buy Skunk #1 seeds from Sam because Sam’s Skunk #1 seeds were already legendary.

Please see Wernard talk about their history in the years before Nevil’s started the seed bank:

http://www.olded.nl/Old%20Ed%20geschiedenis.html

What became apparent to me is how very important Sam’s seeds were in the success of the Holland seed banks:

"And then there was Skunk
The green Team now maintained gardens with plants all over the country. In 1984 the Green team had achieved a turnover of several hundred kilos per year and it was time to expand. We sent a ticket to two promising Americans, Ed Rosenthal, the famous writer of the ancient cannabis bible, and a man named Sam the Skunkman. This Sam promised such huge yields and benefits with the new strain of Skunk he developed that we called him the miracle man. That year we grew Skunk for the first time in a greenhouse like the picture below.

When I had to sell that Skunk, the weed was literally pulled from our hands. Consumers were wildly enthusiastic about the beautiful red buds and fell in love with Nederwiet. Sam was absolutely right! It’s kind made it possible to grow indoors in the greenhouse and under artificial light."

Or let me quote Nevil directly from Michka’s book:

" NEVIL SCHOENMAKER INTERVIEWED BY MICHKA ON JANUARY 6, 2018

How did you first get interested in Haze?
In the mid-eighties, maybe 1985, I bought half of [David] Watson’s seed collection off him when I went to see him in Amsterdam. He had stuff I didn’t have. I paid quite a lot of money for them. They were very old seeds, from the late sixties."

And this is where the Nevil/Haze story starts to fall apart for me. I got the same 1969 IBL Original Haze seeds from Sam and Sam told me flat out that he had been keeping them as an IBL since he first got them from his neighbor “G”. Sam also told me that inbreeding them did not make them better, but outcrossing them with other plants created amazing F1 hybrids.

I also asked Sam about Nevil buying half of his catalog and he pointed out that Nevil bought half of the varieties he had available. Nevil did not buy half of everything Sam had, because Sam had a freaking shit load of seeds. There’s no question that Nevil purchased the varieties from Sam in 1984 that went directly into the catalog such as, Skunk #1, Afghan #1, Hindu Kush, Durban Poison and others.

I also do not believe that Nevil got Haze in 1985 or it would have shown up in his catalog long before 1988. In fact, the word “Haze” is not at all mentioned in Nevil’s catalog until 1988.

It’s not hard to wonder why, it’s because he didn’t have the genetics. Because do you really think that Nevil would have sat on the Haze seeds for 3 years and not made F2 seeds available as he did with other varieties?

And to say that he did and that crossing together original Haze seeds made hay, is freaking ridiculous to all of us.

I was told by Sam that at the time he was only selling seeds by the kilo and not a lot of people wanted long flowering tropical varieties such as Haze, because they were trying to make plants that would grow indoors and in greenhouses that would flower fast and make money. I don’t have a hard time believing that considering it’s been the consensus in the community for decades.

I was also told by Sam that he had given Nevil two male plants sometime when Rob got to Amsterdam, which puts it in 1987, because I know that Rob arrived in Amsterdam in early 1987. If you look it up in old Seed Bank catalogs, in 1988 Haze finally made an appearance in Nevil’s catalog, as a NL crossed with a Haze male.

After Nevil got busted, he outwardly claimed that Sam was a DEA agent and said a lot of really negative things about Sam that were absolutely not true. The main reason I wrote the story about Nevil was to tell the story of Operation Green Merchant.

I received the Nevil court documents because somebody on Instagram was arguing Nevil’s old lie that Sam was the guy who turned Nevil in. I was arguing that Sam did not turn in Nevil and the guy I was arguing with fancied himself an attorney and went to pacer.gov and downloaded all of Nevil’s court papers. In a very gentleman manner, he came back to me and told me that I was right, and that Sam had nothing to do with Nevil’s case at all. The guy who turned in Nevil was a guy named “Raymond Anthony Cogo” who worked for Nevil sending seeds. I asked him how he could be so sure and he emailed me over the two indictments and the record of affidavits from the rat/snitch Cogo and the officers on the case.

If you do not have the two indictments and the affidavits, I will attach them here. I have been getting hate messages from Cogo ever since I wrote the article, but as a journalist, I take that as a compliment. My greatest tribute to Nevil and Sam is telling the truth. As Nevil did not deserve what happened to him and clearly Coco is to blame.

And in the same respect, Sam did not deserve the character assassination that Nevil attempted.

Old Ed who was not a former drug addict and whose word I trusted, had a very different story about Sam and how highly he thought of him, his work and the great donation Sam’s genetics made to making Amsterdam a cannabis destination.

I started working with Jack Herer 1994 and I became a student of truth over bullshit a long time ago.

It annoys me that when I arrived in Amsterdam that I got bullshitted by some of my Dutch friends who were trying to take credit for other people’s work. It is the same thing going on in the industry today, that was going on in the industry in A’dam in 1994.

So I have no problem telling the truth about Nevil, but not if it is at the sake of lying about Sam or his accomplishments, and I do not have any respect for people that try to assassinate the character of others by making false accusations.

Sam was an acid eating hippie and not a heroin addict and as someone who grew up around bikers and hippies, I know the personality distinction all too well.

Sam hitchhiked across the hippie trail with his girlfriend in 1970, from London to Morocco, Morocco to Germany and then from Germany all the way to India through Afghanistan, and Pakistan and the Hindu Kush mountains collecting seeds the whole time. They then proceeded to live in India for over a year.

Sam arrived back in California in the early 70’s, settled in Santa Cruz and became a legend for breeding Skunk #1 long before Nevil even picked up a Mel Frank book. Sam was growing Haze as an IBL and outcrossing with it since the early 70’s and still holds those genetics to this day. I would not have Original Haze that was bred in 1969 and kept as an IBL, if it wasn’t for Sam and his ability to keep his shit together. In fact, Sam is so well grounded that he and his girlfriend from the Hippie Trail, are celebrating their 51st anniversary together this April.

In my opinion, the BS stories of the greatness of the Dutch seed merchants need to stop, I respect the work that Nevil did and his creations were great, but a lot of the people who came after him (Sensi) have done nothing but dilute the genetics and many of us know that. History is laying itself out (such as Nevil’s court papers becoming public) and only a few people are still telling the tales that turned out to be lies.

I am taking the time to write this because I think that Sam deserves a huge apology from a lot of people who created their opinion of him through lies initiated by Nevil, before Nevil even knew who turned him in.
After the court paperwork came out and it showed that Cogo was the rat bastard, I didn’t remember seeing a retraction from Nevil apologizing for the character assassination against Sam.

In fact I wonder at what point Nevil knew that Sam had nothing to do with him getting busted, but still proceeded to lie about Sam, regardless of the truth.

As somebody who grew up around a heroin addict, who later OD’ed, you don’t have to tell me about their problem to tell the truth.

I give credit to those who had the courage to collect genetics, stand up against the drug war and disseminate genetics. Guys like Sam, Rob Clarke, Wernard, Old Ed, and Nevil who came on the scene after all of them, deserved to be revered.

As I wrote in The Legacy of a Legend:
“I see Nevil as a great artist, much like Pablo Picasso did not invent the red and the blue and the green, but it is his combination of those colors that we all appreciate, and very similar is the art of breeding plants. Nevil took these primary plants, Northern Lights and Haze and did not just cross them and call it a day, Nevil numbered every male and female and tested the crosses to determine which of the two plants had the best hybridization.”

Attached is the affidavit from the real snitch in Nevil’s case.

Note that pages 40 to 47 are redacted because they contained some of the names and addresses of Nevil’s customers and the people who Cogo turned in. Even though these are public court papers and those people have already been busted and done time, had their dogs shot, property stolen and lives turned upside down over growing flowers: I feel that it is disrespectful to post what was once private information here.

The one question I have after reading the affidavit from Cogo, and if anybody can provide this answer I would appreciate it, is what year did Nevil find out that Cogo and NOT Sam was the snitch?

Also please keep in mind that the government kept Cogo’s involvement a secret for many years, according to his affidavit he clearly started cooperating with the government in 1989, yet they did not take his sworn affidavit until January 1994, because no doubt, they were using Cogo the whole time and Nevil would not have known what really was happening.

It’s the same cogo who has a nutrient company now and is profiting from people growing, shame shame on him. RIP nevil , old Ed , BOG and all the others who have passed that helped to get us to where we are now , genetically and legally.
Jeff’s wife from ocbc once told me those who are at the front of the battle often fall on the sword, and are ran over and forgotten by those eager to fight the war once it’s already being won. Those words have stuck with me in the back of my mind ever sense. We were talking about there first case and the current climate in oakland at the time but it still apllies to so many things going on today.

Thank you for that information. I definitely think it’s true that a lot of the people who come first are run over by the people who are eager to come after.

I was actually raided with Oaksterdam on April 2nd 2012, the feds hit the school, Richard Lee’s (the owner of OU) apartment and my house because the feds thought that I was hiding his cash. At the time they were kicking him out of the banks routinely and I am sure that the feds thought that they would find safes at my house full of his money. They didn’t.

The feds called me up and asked me to cooperate and I refused, so starting in January 2013, I was prosecuted for cultivating 730 plants and having 38 lights. They prosecuted me for the 4.5 years with Tony Serra as my attorney. I had to prepare for a jury trial three times, and all three times they backed down. It was not until in 2016 that we passed prop 64 and all felony cultivation charges were reduced to misdemeanors, only then did the judge kick out the case, citing that the prosecution was the punishment considering how long it had been going on for.

Cogo’s affidavit describing in detail his involvement in the prosecution of Nevil is enough proof for me.

After getting the court paperwork regarding Nevil’s case, and learning Cogo’s name, I was really surprised to find that Raymond Anthony Cogo was already following me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

I would alert everybody on this website to take a look at their social media followers and see if “Cogo’s Nutrients” or Raymond Cogo, or Anthony Cogo is following them as well.

Yeah he started following me also and was actually bragging about his expierance and how he worked with nevil and it wasn’t long after that the paperwork came out and he started deleting posts.
I got my script on the third floor in Oakland right after sb420 passed and there was less then 30’000 medical patients. Nobody believed it was real I still have my early buyers club cards from Jeff Jones.
What happened in 2012 was absolute bs and had every body from santa Cruz to Oregon shutting down shop and sweating bullets myself included.
Alot of progress has been made some not in the best direction but there is still along way to go , j believe in complete legalization and freedom for all to grow and use this plant as they see fit. Hopefully one day we will get there.

Hello tod . A question for you, do you know that hybrid you have been selling as nevils haze x original haze and you have declared that nevils haze as being a5haze x haze C. You know the one you said you collected from nevil when you got invited to play chess. Well can you just confirm for me that the nevils haze is the a5haze x haze C that you yourself collected on a trip to visit nevil. Its just that someone else told me its actual not a5haze x haze C but something else and wasn’t collected by you but by a friend of your friends. Sorry I thought it best to ask you directly

Ps . Just so you know sam already confirmed on the other place he sold nevil the haze seeds just days after arriving in holland in 1984. Maybe nevil did a good afew years of testing things before releasing them.

Hi Nightmare,

Your timeline is wrong. I lived in Amsterdam in 95/96 and that’s when I played chess with Nevil and I got one seed from a bud he gave me to smoke and it turned out to be a boy. I lost that plant in 1997 when I was raided.

When I got out of prison in 2004, I met somebody who had lit up a joint of clearly something/Haze and I struck up a conversation and asked him about it. He told me that he had gotten the cutting from his friend who had gone to Amsterdam and met some guy named Nevil and played chess with him and bought some seeds from him. When his friend came back to California, he simply selected a female that smelled and tasted most like the one he remembered when he was smoking with the guy. My friend followed it up by saying that it could be bs because he was not there, but I told him it sounded legit because it smelled and tasted exactly like something Nevil sold at the Greenhouse Cafe in Amsterdam, which I smoked every chance I got.

His friend was visiting in the mid 90s, which was around the same time Nevil and Arjan started the Greenhouse Cafe in the Red-light district of Amsterdam.

We traded cuttings, I gave him OG Kush and he gave me the Haze cutting. He was actually not sure if it was called Nevil’s Haze or Super Silver Haze, but after growing it, it was clearly not SSH, because it just didn’t have the skunk/bigger bud formation and it was totally Haze smelling and tasting.

I will post photos as a reference. 2 screen shots and 2 photos from my garden.

As for what you’re saying about what you read Sam saying: I know, which is why I asked him to sell me the same seeds that he sold Nevil. But after I asked him that question, he told me that he couldn’t sell me the same original Haze seeds that he sold Nevil, because he never sold Nevil original Haze seeds, that he gave Nevil a couple Haze plants and he told me that Rob was with him when he did it. I asked Rob and he confirmed that they went over to Nevil’s place sometime in 1987 and gave Nevil a couple cuttings of Haze. Sam also said time and the again, that he has a hard time remembering everything perfectly.

I believe that the Mandela effect happens, and that Sam told me the truth as the evidence supports what Sam told me.

I don’t think that Haze had much commercial appeal to Nevil when he first was purchasing seeds from Sam or they were not offered to him. Because I can not find any evidence to support that Nevil actually had Haze before 1987. I would not care either way, as it makes no difference to any of us.

Sam told me that at the time, not a lot of people wanted Haze because it wasn’t the performer they were looking for. At the time, Sam only sold seeds by the kilo and Nevil has never said that he bought a kilo of Haze seeds from Sam.

I don’t think that Nevil took interest in Haze until a couple years later as it just doesn’t add up that he would have gotten the genetics before 1987, because Haze does not appear in the catalog until 1988. I cannot imagine that if Nevil had actually gotten a kilo of Haze seeds in 1984, that Haze would not have appeared in the catalog much sooner and as an “original Haze” seed offering as he did with Skunk #1, which if you go look in the January 1st, 1985 catalog, Nevil clearly states that: “Skunk #1: Originally developed by the Sacred Seeds Co.”.

It’s not as if Nevil made the Skunk #1 seeds he was selling in January 1985, they clearly came from his purchase from Sam just months earlier 1984. I have a hard time believing that if Nevil had actually purchased Haze seeds in 1984, that it would have taken till 1988 for the word “Haze” to appear in his catalog.

As a cannabis historian, I try to listen and then find physical evidence to back up what people are telling me. Using Nevil’s own catalogs as a timeline, the Haze entry into the 1988 catalog comes in very late considering that all of the other varieties that he got from Sam were clearly offered in 85, 86 & 87.

Why no Haze crosses in 1985, 86 or 87 catalogs? I don’t think he had it. It’s really that simple.

I got into karate when I was 12 after meeting a deaf Sensei who had studied in Okinawa, he was teaching my friend karate and he took me on as a student teaching me Uechi-ryu.

Ironically, I was selling my friend Jim a bag of weed and he was telling me about the three different schools he was taking karate in. Because I have a spinal fusion, all of the karate schools that my mom brought me to rejected me, because they thought I was too fragile or an insurance liability. Fortunately, his teacher affectionately nicknamed “Tiny” took me on, probably because he was deaf and could relate to being an outsider. I studied under him until I left the state for good in 1991.

I highly recommend it to everybody. It truly helped me on many many levels.

I guess you didnt know nevil was smoking his own bred haze at the first hightimes cannabis cup.that was bred from a female, sam was there an confirms this too.and he was selling multiple haze hybrids between 1986-1990 made with haze A, haze C , and a different female called haze B. I actually got some off him and seen the listings.

Also are you sure that nevils haze x original haze hybrid isnt made with super silver haze. I didnt really mention a time line. But I got confused with your story and dates regarding what you call nevils haze and some information this guy sent me and the time lines match with something else you got. With your permission il show you what he sent me. Thats why I thought it best to just ask you rather than someone else. The original ssh was never really big budded it was actually quite tall and slender with lots of tiny round caylxes.
