Thanks guys. It looks like keeping the soil more moist may be the secret. Easy peasy.
Watering is what I’m most concerned about with my autos.
I agree and that’s why I was letting the pots get dry before I watered
That’s why it’s awesome my OG bros get me back on track!
Much better! Can’t wait to see how they look in a week or two.
My plan, next go round, I may go a bit bigger to start and up pot to 3 gallons when they need it. Elminate one stress on them maybe? I think those small pots are a bit smaller than a 20 oz cup.
Up-potting should happen multiple times. In my experience I have found that I get best results when the plants move from a 1-gallon (vegetative/nursery) up to a 3-gallon (vegetative/teen) and then to a 5-gallon (vegetative/high power) before finally being placed in a 10 or 20 gallon (flowering) pot. This of course depends on the size of the space you are growing in, also.
Also, be sure to break up the root ball slightly before placing it in the new pot - that allows the roots to break out of their small pot cycle and expand to fill the new pot quicker. If this is skipped, the roots will continue to grow in a circle and won’t reach out into the new soil as quickly. Once the roots are loosened up a bit, apply myco solution or powder to the root ball and the substrate under the root ball.
I like to lift and see how heavy the pots feel. You’ll get to know the difference between one that has plenty of water and the ones that need more. Other than that, I’ll let maybe the first inch or so if the soil dry, about a knuckle deep when I poke the soil. I don’t like to water till there’s a bunch of run off, but it’s important to water deep and not just surface watering.
I do a lift on the pots for sure. It seems like the 5% every other day is keeping them fairly moist all the way around. I imagine I will have to add more than that when they get bigger, but they are looking better and better right now.
I had a friend tell me recently that if you see the roots, and don’t apply mykos, you wasted an opportunity. He also gave me the name of a brand he had been using that was cheaper than great white, but seemed just as effective.
I know that microorganisms move around some in soil. I assume that mykos are pretty stuck where you put them? I need to get some on them for the final up pot.
Thanks for the advice all.
I think of mycorrhizal fungus as a ‘feel good’ product. It makes me feel good using it, but it’s not a make it or break it kind of thing imho. One thing I would look for are products that do not also contain trichoderma.
Abstract
The interaction between Trichoderma pseudokoningii (Rifai) 511, 2212, 741A, 741B and 453 and the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi Glomus mosseae (Nicol. & Gerd.) Gerdemann & Trappe BEG12 and Gigaspora rosea Nicolson & Schenck BEG9 were studied in vitro and in greenhouse experiments. All T. pseudokoningii strains inhibited the germination of G. mosseae and Gi. rosea except the strain 453, which did not affect the germination of Gi. rosea.
It should increase yields though? Anyone seen a percentage?
Anything that makes the plants happier will increase yield, potency and taste
I get it though. I can grow some good weed regardless. After that, just keep trying to take it up a notch. Maybe C02 next.
Your plants are looking amazing!!! Keep up the good work
I been watching youtube videos on making co2 with vinegar and bakingsoda.they have a couple that look easy enough to do.
If I start doing diy co2, it’ll be because I’m making wine and sticking the bucket in the tent . I doubt this would do much, and it wouldn’t be consistent since I can only make and bottle so much wine at a time . But cheap grape juice makes a decent everyday table wine.
IT would be alot of maintenance. Im looking at a used burner right now for future use
SMKN is a special kind of DIY guy. I consider myself an amateur.
I want to say thanks @monkeyman for the kick ass facelift. Maybe @Kingmambo will realize Im a kinder, gentler, more dashing weed badger now!
In his defense my old avatar did just look freaking grumpy!
The old one reminded me of the badger song though.
@monkeyman pumpin out the cool new avatars! Very cool. Honey @Badger don’t care!
