BarefootAndBlazed 2025

Last year’s thread

It’s almost March, but HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I’m way overdue for starting this year’s grow log. Things are mostly the same. I still have a 5x5 tent for veg, little ones, and moms, an 8x4 for flowering, and a 2x4 for drying. I grow in Octopots with ProMix HP for medium (straight out of the bag, no amendments), using Jacks nutes in the reservoir for feed (20-20-20 through the stretch, 10-30-20 in flower, then 5-12-26 to finish). I’ve got a huge Fluence SpydrX Pro light (660 watt, iirc) and use a handful of 200w SpiderFarmer SF2000 lights for veg and flower.

My garden is seeing activity but overall things have been relatively quiet. When we left off in December, 2024, my flower tent contained two Apollo 11 plants (from Brothers Grimm, technically Apollo XX which is what I was shipped though I ordered the non-feminized version) from clone, plus one Skywalker OG (an F2 of Aficionado’s Bx - they used Larry OG for the backcross) from seed. I have harvested and trimmed those three. Coincidentally, they each yielded a 9oz harvest!!!

Skywalker OG

Next up I had a God Bud 2.0 from Jordan Of The Islands and another Skywalker OG, both from seed. The God Bud was an underperformer, but it was the only surviving female from the 5 seeds I had. She barely got to 2’ tall and had SO MANY LEAVES! I’ll finish trimming her tonight. Not a great yield but my samples have been very enjoyable. It’s a nice indica stone!! I just chopped that next Skywalker, having freed up the drying tent.

I’ve had issues with my cloner. I think it’s the pump (again). Even on the lowest power setting and with a large interval between sprays, I think it is blasting the cuttings with too much force. I’m a little perturbed that I haven’t figured it out, so I’ve switched to growing from seed for a bit. My most recent sprouts that tested female are two Temple Flo (from DJ Short) and a single Hindu Kush x Mendo Breath. I don’t have my spreadsheet, but I obtained the latter through Sebring’s site several years ago. Those three were moved into Octopots and will get another week or three before going into flower. I ended up with a Saints Crossing (bred by Bodhi, it’s pheno #2 which leans toward the Blueberry side) in a 3 gallon fabric pot (not an Octopot) that I just moved into the flower tent. We’ll see how she fares once my spring and summer travel plans come around. I’ve left the Octopots unattended for 6 days at a time with no issue, but imagine a plant in a fabric pot may suffer…

All my recent travels have included live music. So far this year I caught the band Lotus, who were fantastic, and I traveled to Milwaukee to see Goose (nights 2 & 3 of their 3 night run at the Miller High Life Theatre). Both bands performed well musically and had impressive light shows!

So that’s what’s happening chez moi. I hope everyone has had a solid start to their 2025. Thanks for stopping by, and happy gardening!!!

That was a nice read, beautiful plants and clean setup, nice photos too, thx for sharing.
That Saint Crossings caught my eye.
Is it a Bohdi strain ?
I see beautiful plants from him, definitely try his products someday. He seems to be a dedicated cool dude.
That and octopots, too, you and Paps rock it for sure.
You make me want to try them out, just for curiosity’s sake.

What a nice kitchen too !!! Wow.

Thanks for visiting my new and old threads!

I’m super lucky to live where I live. My partner had lived in the house for years but then moved and kept it as a rental property. I had a small house and was looking to upgrade and I was able to buy out half of her place. That paid off the mortgage and gave us the budget for a big renovation which included my dream kitchen!

Saints Crossing is from Bodhi. He used his 88G13HP stud to pollinate one of his oldest strains, Stevie Wonder - which has since been renamed to Saint Stephen. Saint Stephen is a four way cross of old school strains: Blueberry, Trainwreck, Bubba Kush, and SensiStar. I grew it from seed last year and ended up with 3 phenotypes. One wasn’t great, but I’ve kept moms of the other two. The one I just put into flower last night is #2 which leans toward the Blueberry - it’s got that grapey, fruity smell and turned quite purple. The #1 ended up being the most colorful plant I’ve ever grown!!! You can see the purple leaf of a #2 pheno in the lower right…

I’ve grown a few Bodhi strains, including Spirit Train and Lemon Wookie V2. I have a bunch of his packs that I need to get to. With my cloner temporarily out of commission, we should see a few of his strains in my garden in 2025!

Hey Paps!

The first Skywalker popped a few male flowers at week 3 of 12/12. Normally I would toss any plant with male parts but decided to pluck them off and ‘wait and see’. Fortunately, those were the only ones that appeared. The rest of the grow went smashingly, other than the plant wanting to grow too tall for my space. The second Skywalker, the one I just chopped, showed no male parts at all, and I was able to keep the vertical growth in check by pinching stems. It was too tall to be under the Fluence light, but it lived happily under two SpiderFarmer SF2000s.

I vaped a sample with a local grower friend and we both loved it! She felt energetic and talkative. I ended up super high, but pleasantly so. I haven’t taken cuts of any of my Skywalkers but I have more seeds for the future!

Oooh!!! I remembered something else worth posting. I often make infused cookies and chocolates for edibles but recently made a batch of caramels. I had read that there’s a point during the heating process where things stall. You’re trying to get the batch to 245°F, but it hangs out around 212° as it releases moisture, before starting to climb again. What I didn’t realize is that it can stay there a very long time, and you have to keep stirring constantly. It took nearly an hour before it worked out the moisture. My arm was so sore! Thankfully the end result has been extremely well received by the folks who’ve sampled them. I’ll definitely be making them again and will be better prepared!

On the stove

Poured in the pan with a sprinkle of Himalayan pink salt

Chopping and wrapping

Very strong caramels in a one gallon Ziploc. Banana for scale:

I used Emily Kyle’s recipe.
https://emilykylenutrition.com/wprm_print/chewy-homemade-cannabis-caramels
My infused coconut oil usually gives 4 dozen doses per half cup, so this recipe worked well for me. It calls for 1 cup of “cannabutter” to yield 80 caramels, but I got closer to 100…

Looks like a solid entry for 2025. Even though we are close to March

Everything is looking kick ass @BarefootAndBlazed !

The roots on the recent Octopot transplants have officially reached the reservoir. They had drained the nutrient solution so I refilled, and was able to snap this pic just before lights out.

I’m loving the look of this Hindu Kush x Mendo Breath plant!

Not much exciting in the garden so I’ve stayed busy in the kitchen:

Chocolate cookies with toffee pieces (very potent edible!!!)

Flatbread Pizza (Canadian bacon, crumbled breakfast bacon, sweet onion)

Gumbo (Lola looking on with intense interest!)

I went out of town for a week. The garden went unattended for 16 hours short of 7 full days. They needed attention upon my return, but nothing suffered.

The three in Octopots in the veg tent were topped just before I left town and they were looking great. The Temple Flo look like they could get big so I moved them all into the flower tent today, and took cuttings.

Saints Crossing #2 in its 3rd week of flower

Hindu Kush x Mendo Breath is short but has the crazy huge fans

I picked up a new cloner (CloneKing 36 site) and am going to follow their instructions and just use plain water, no nutes, no pHdown, pump sprayer running 24/7 assuming the water doesn’t get hot. That’s pretty much the opposite of what I was doing  We’ll see how it goes!

Nice, i need to up my clone game! I feel like i let a lot of good stuff slip through my fingers just popping seeds all the time.

The new cloner has been running for a week. No signs of roots yet, but the cuttings appear to be happy and flourishing.

Saints Crossing was defoliated and branches secured to the tomato cage.

Temple Flos are chugging along

I applied some LST to the Hindu Kush x Mendo Breath to spread out the branches and get light to more bud sites.

Quick update today.

The new cloner is working!!! On day 9 I had roots starting to appear on one of the Apollo cuttings! Pretty good for plain tap water!!!

After removing a few fans at the top and applying LST, the Hindu Kush x Mendo Breath is gaining more vertical growth. I think I’ll end up with some nice colas as a result.

Saints Crossing #2 is known as the fruity pheno, which I believe comes from the Blueberry in its genetics. It is showing the first signs of turning purple:

Temple Flo
I was a little concerned about the curled leaves, but while researching the strain I saw pics displaying that same trait. I don’t believe the plant is unhappy…

Close up

Cloner was a success. I now have new moms, and sowed three directly into Octopots for my next round (Saints Crossing 1&2, plus Apollo 11). I also gave away 5 new plants to local growmies

Saints Crossing #2

Hindu Kush x Mendo Breath just had another round of LST and defol. The plant is so compact, it was getting to be wet in the middle.

I made 6 dozen oatmeal scotchies (edibles)

I road tripped to see Tank and the Bangas. They won this year’s Grammy for best spoken word album. Plenty of funk and soul in addition to poetry and hip hop in their live sets.
Tank has amazing stage presence!

Temple Flo is looking good. And I agree about the clawing leaves. If they were unhappy you would know it. TF is sensitive strain though. Easy to muck them up if you are not careful. Curious how they finish in the octopots. I just finished my first run with octopots and read lots of your posts on some of the octo threads. Thank you and the others for the info. Good luck with the rest of the grow.

It’s day 61 of 12/12 for the Saints Crossing #2 so I broke out the macro lens. I think I’ll give it another day or two…

While I had the camera out I snapped some pics of the Temple Flo plants which are at day 42.
#1 doesn’t have as much leaf curl and is starting to stack some nice colas - assuming they continue to fill in.

#2 doesn’t have nearly the amount of flower, but what is there is COATED in trichomes. This one has mostly red/purple branches
