Basement tent full of husky hair

After hours long anxiety fueled deliberation, I finally decided to start an on going grow log. I don’t do anything super fancy. Pretty straight forward DWC.

This particular grow is just a fun grow. I’ve got plenty of stash and just itching to get plant grown out. I’m growing one royal queen seeds’ auto north thunderfuck. Trying one auto seed was also a carefully mulled over decision. Firstly, only one seed. if it flops, it’s not like I have to sell off the farm to make up for crop loss. Second. It’s absolutely terribly cold here right now and an auto will let me warm the tent with 24 hour lights.

Congrats on taking the plunge! I also spend a long time stressing over posting, and I also decided on auto(s) for the run I just started because of my cold basement!

Excited to follow along, I hope everything goes smoothly!

Quick update:
Seed has cracked and visible from the rock wool. You’ll just have to take my word though cause I forgot I was doing this and didn’t take a picture.

Not a lot going on in the tent. What I thought was a cracked seed was just junk from the reused plastic bag. I opened up the rock wool to double check. The shell is getting softer. Give her another week see what happens.

Either way here’s some pictures of past grows.

Finally. We have life. It’s been 7 days. I was beginning to think it was still too cold down there, but I think the hard parts over.

Maybe a mistake. Maybe not.

I made some super diluted gh nutrient water a few nights ago. Put it in the tent to let it equalize in temps in there. Moved the rock wool into a net pot with a class jar humidity dome.

Went with a coffee can for the first resting spot for this lady. No sense in making a huge batch of such weak solution.

It’s surviving.

In my own impatience checking to see if the seed was doing its thing, I rendered the rock wool useless. I went ahead and took it out and “repotted” my seedling. Roots are starting to take off in all directions and the tap root is making its way down to the res water.
The humidity dome is working well. I wasn’t sure if it would much since the water isn’t exposed to the light.
So I guess things are good for now.

Signs of life are signs of life! Clever solution to use the coffee can and jar!

I might be worried about airflow under the dome (I do not know if you are), and prop it up a bit on one side, but if it’s doing well, maybe only change if there’s an issue. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That’s how I’m trying to approach things, don’t change for the sake of changing, only if it’s needed. That’s not always what happens, but it’s what I’m trying to do.

Glad it’s surviving!

Not terribly concerned of air flow. I’m pump in enough air to aerate 300 gallons through the bottom.

The dome is only gonna be on long enough to get two real sets of leafs. Then I’ll call it. I have a habit of pushing my plants to the livable limit lol.

Always impressive to me how fast these thing can grow.

Anything below the cup is growth of less the 24 hours. Real leaves are finally starting to unfold.
Lights are probably to strong but they’re at least 36 inches up. They’re holding a solid 73 degrees though which is way better than 65. I’ll dial them in when the plant isn’t just a seedling. This whole grow is really just to see how loose I can be. I’ve said elsewhere here. I don’t like to stress all the little details I could. It’s like the one thing in my life I just let life take hold of.

Following along if you don’t mind - your previous grow shots are some stunners :star_struck:

Goodest of luck to you and your plant buddy :potted_plant::four_leaf_clover:

Don’t mind at all. That faded one was an experiment also. That was all vegetative nutrients all the way through. Looked gorgeous. I kept it really small on purpose and part of me wants to do it again any let it do its thing.

Of course I would get a seed going and immediately get hit with an arctic blast. I thought for sure we were warming up. With that, it looks like growth has slowed way down. Half tempted to grab an aquarium tank heater to see if it helps.

Either way, waiting on warmer times I decided to go through what small collection of seeds I have. I found a gem that I’m pretty excited to get going in a month or so hopefully.

There we go. I found a good balance between light height, intensity, and temp. That plant does not like 70 degrees. I got it maintaining at 74 and it’s finally picking back up. This will be easier as the plant fills out. Early life is so much more involved.

Introducing big boy nutrients now. Just by topping off the res. Crazy the evaporation going on with how dry the air is right now. I added about a quart to it.

Looks like we’re already sprouting more leaves and roots are back to doubling over night. Even has a few more shoots coming off the main finally.

Not much to report. First leaves have burnt tips. Probab A slew of factors. Not bothered by it. I’ve got new growth….though looks like it’s trying to mutate. Probably just the hard start to life. I had a few that did this through last years cold snap.

For better or for worse this plant will live out its time. Give it a month and I’ll probably start those cap junky x chem 91. Debating an outdoor grow this year… never done that one. I’ll have to check my bag and see what’s worthy of an outdoor grow.

!

These three were a plant I had last year that I assumed got cold shocked also. Super slow to germinate. Super slow veg start. Then it exploded in growth.

Water was pretty gross with algae. Cleaned it out. Scrubbed the air stone and gave her a fresh batch of water today.

Just your standard general hydroponic trio and some calmag. I ph to 6+/-
I’ve been running the light 24/7 for the warmth. It’s not my ideal light schedule. I’ve always had better luck when the have a little a nap in there somewhere.

Lol I feel the same way with dirt. I’m always struggling in the dirt. Nute burn, ph lock out, gnats, you can have it.
