Beakers and Stupidity - The Growroom Diary!

AN’s feeding schedule has Voodoo Juice added in the first two weeks, then you stop. The “homebrew” version mimics Voodoo Juice.

Theoretically, the fungi and beneficial bacteria would have created a colony in the root mass by then.

Interesting. Im not familiar with the nutrient line your mimicing but I wonder if there is some hidden wetting agent that helps the roots stay moist and in good bacteria range. Or maybe a natural ingredient that happens to contain a benefitial microbe.

yeah, their wetting agent is called “Wet Betty”, which is derived from Yucca and something else. Wet Betty is included, and incorporated into their Sensi pH Perfect line.

Day 16

Clones ended up rooting pretty well, and roots started appearing out of their mini pots. So it’s time to transplant. Normally I move from one of these small pots (or solo cups usually) to a 1 gallon, then to a 3 gallon. But decided to go straight to the larger pots. I was concerned that if I kept going in “non” fabric pots, I may not be seeing results of the different nutrients. As the Tray2Grow can take any pot size, the regular autopots aren’t designed to have a 1 gallon weird pot in there. If one group did better or not, it could have been due to the “correct” capillary action of the T2G compared to the “incorrect” capillary action of the standard autopots.

Composted the “extra” clones. They all rooted, but were looking a little fried. I think I kept them on the heat mat too long. But, didn’t need them anymore now anyway. Moms (sadly) got composted too. Sad to see the healthy ladies go, but they served their purposes.

Some pics of me rooting up (for those that care)

And in they go

Still top watering, at least for a few days. See how they go.

40% intensity on the light, 18” away from leaf tips.
73% humidity
82F temp
1.02 VPD
will be cutting back on humidity over the next week or so.

For the “Basic” mix, it’s:
8g CalMag
4.4g Masterblend
3.5g Epsom Salt
8.7g Calcium Nitrate
1.5g Buffer Solution

“Advanced” also gets:
5ml Liquid Kelp Extract
1 B-Complex Vitamin
4ml Blackstrap Molasses
1.2g Afalfa Pellets
1g Earthworm Castings
1ml Yucca Extract

Came to about 650ppm
tossed in two shots of H2O2 per rez (hopefully kills some of the gunk in the “Advanced” Rez, although it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be), and ph’ed to 5.8.

Lets see how these ladies grow!

I don’t think I’ll be vegging for very long. Dance World appears to want to grow faster than the other two, so I don’t want them to get to the point where they’re competing for light. I also want to avoid alot of training (topping, LSTing) because it may impact the results. So just letting them go a little longer (maybe two more weeks), then flipping the lights.

What’s your top watering method? I found these submersible pumps that hook straight to a manifold with some 1/4" tubing and drippers.

I feel like the A group looks a little better. Curious to see how they grow in the big pots

Dip a quart mason jar in the rez and pour it in the pot, lol

I don’t get too complicated with it, because it’s only long enough for the roots to make it down where the autopot pulls in on it’s own, and with 100% coco, it happens pretty quick.

I think the root development on B group looked just a little bit better, but the A group overall looks just a little bit better. Which, could have been the T2G doing it’s thing better than just hand watering in a saucer, which is essentially what using the basic autopot at that stage is.

Should be neutralized now though, so if one starts taking off more than the other, we know it’s not another variable.

Agreed, visually A looks a little better. If b has better roots they should grow faster.

Sometimes I make things harder lol.

Are you doing height measurements? Might be an easy way to roughly measure growth rates between the two.

No. Over the course of the grow, if one group grows taller than another, it should be pretty obvious.

I was planning on measuring the main difference between yield, THC content, and terps.

Day 21

Ladies looking good. I stopped top watering, as they appeared to have adjusted well.

Light increased to level 5.

About 82F, 66% rh

Will be switching out the rez in about two days. But I’ve noticed the “Advanced” rez is fluctuating much more in pH than the “Basic” rez.

Day 22

Basic recipe:
8g CalMag
5g Masterblend Powder
4g Epsom Salt
9.8g Calcium Nitrate
1.5g pH Buffer solution

Advanced also gets:
5.5ml Liquid Kep Extract
1.3 B-Complex Vitamin Tablets
4ml Blackstrap Molasses
2g Alfalfa Pellets
1g Earthworm Casting Powder
1ml Yucca Extract

I also put 1.5 shots of H2O2 into both of them, to hopefully kill off some nasties. I’m waiting for the pH buffer solution, and the H2O2 to settle the pH, then I’ll adjust both to about 5.9 pH. ppm should be in the 700 range

81F and 65% RH.
Will continue to bump the RH down slowly a little bit more.
Level 5 on the grow light, placed around 18” away from the top of the tallest plant.

I’m getting a little bit more stretch than I typically like, but don’t want to push the light much more powerful or closer. I should be around 700 ppfd, which should be about right. Plus more light would mean higher temps, which would compound the stress. So I’ll let them go.

Erdpurt, in both, appears to be acting odd compared to Dance World and Runtz. The Basic Erdpurt seems to be stunted slightly, and the Advanced Erdpurt appears to not have much lateral branching. We’ll see though.

I’ll probably keep them in veg another week or two, then flip. I don’t want them getting super big, or the larger ones will outgrow and outshade the smaller ones.

Day 25

Oddly, the Autopot plants appear to be showing signs of what I believe is overwatering. I’ve never experienced this with Autopots before.

It’s possible it’s a little bit of nute burn though, as the “additives” are pushing the Advanced group a little higher on ppm than the Basic group. May add a little water to balance it out.

It’s also possible that it’s a reaction to the H2O2 and a splash of bleach I added in there to clean up a little of the sludge in the bottom of the Advanced rez. I doubt it though, as I added the same to both rez’es.

It’s also possible there is some nutrient lockout occurring in the Advanced group. The pH fluctuated a little more than the Basic group. The Basic was kept at 5.9 pH, while the Advanced was pushed down to 5.8 pH and now jumped to 6.2 pH. Although, I doubt that’s really the issue either.

Will probably watch for another day or two to see how they do. If it is the pH issue, or the bleach/H2o2 issue it should resolve itself in the next day or so. But might need to add some hydrotron on the bottom of the autopot plants. Really, really don’t want to do that, as it’ll upset the Advanced group at the detriment of the Basic group. But they’re not looking very happy ATM.
