Beans for everyone (Part 4)

Even pre harvest. Im sizing up the animal i want from the herd. Proper killing is a big part of food management. Several times 10-12 deer just walk right by while im picking the proper one,haa haa. Btw respect to you and Slippy, proper new members.

I’ve never had squirrel, but that sounds BANGIN’.

I did have rabbit once, and it was delicious. Smaller animals tend to be really tasty, even within the same species. Like smaller fish or shellfish versus the giant ones, for example.

I don’t know if it’s bioaccumulation of all the nasty stuff from foods they eat, or just the way the structure of the meat changes through years of growth, or both, or something else entirely. The flavor and texture of younger animals just tends to be worlds better. :man_shrugging:

Flattered to hear we’ve earned your respect, brother.

It’s people just like yourself who have been most encouraging and inspiring. I’ve been treated very well, and I’ve been trying to put in the work to encourage others and share my own gear around in turn, even though my stuff is probably pretty pale in comparison to what most have on here. Hopefully it’s the thought that counts. :joy:

Very much appreciated! I share a lot of the feelings that @slippy790 expressed in the above post. I was very warmly welcomed here, many of you have been very generous with me especially you @Hashpants.
Yourself among many others here that have inspired me to get over my ā€œfear of pollenā€ that had been instilled in me over the years and start chucking so I can show the same generosity with seeds in return to the community.
Happy to say that I’ve got my very first beans baking in the tent right now from some pollen donated to me by @Beau won’t be a ton of beans but I’m positive that as many flips as I can send will get into the hands of the people who are interested.
Thanks again gang

Maybe it’s the hour of cardio talking, but I could probably crush all four of those right about now.

I’ve always wanted to try rabbit. I see a few in my yard from time to time. I’m more of a fishing guy so don’t really know how to go about getting one. Shoot it or trap snare IDK.

I’d think shooting would be the most humane, and give you your best shot of getting to your meat before the other predators.

Beats me, though. I think my dad bought the rabbit I ate from the store. :joy:

Watch youtube videos on hunting and processing game. I was always more of a fisherman. I didn’t start hunting until age 29 and nobody showed me. A couple friends and I just figured it out on our own. We started with rabbit, then turkey, squirrel, dove. Start with a .22 or a shotgun, read regulations, understand how to skin and gut an animal, and then go out small game hunting. There will be mistakes but it’s really easy to learn.

In your backyard if theres neighbors a high powered pellet rifle might be the move.

Well shit. My second safety don’t work.

Last time I had squirrel, I dreamed two man sized squirrels were hunting me and my squirrel sized brother with shotguns. I haven’t bothered the little fellars since.

I can get away with a 22 no problems. Thank you all for the tips.

I made a little homemade live fall trap like this one Summer when I was a kid to catch a squirrel to see what it tasted like. Took like 3 days of them tripping it and getting away before I finally got one. It wasn’t bad in a crockpot with carrots and potatoes and now I can say I’ve eaten squirrel.

I guess because nobody really uses them for bait casting LOL we just use them up here for ice fishing. We use a spin caster for casting.

And let me tell you they were frozen. I was going to make a little stocked up box of firewood, two on two crisscrossed. LOL

When I was a kid we raised rabbits. I had rabbit at least twice per week. We had squirrel some times when I would go out with my .22 and plink a few.

That sounds mighty fine. Not sure I’d have the heart do the slaughtering, though. :cold_sweat:

I could handle the butchery, however.
