BeardedMech's Backyard

I just searched all over for manners and couldn’t find any. There are lots of small yellowing leaves though so that is a good theory.

Thanks for following along! We’re all doing well over here. Mower still gives me trouble here and there but it’s 42 years old.

I’m only gonna harvest the one for now. I’ll get a better look at the other plant tomorrow for nanners. I’d like to push her another week at least.

Thank you all for the kind words! I’m not super happy with how this turned out but there’s still hope for AA6. They could have been in better light but after they grew in that 20 gallon pot I couldn’t really move it.

But the shows not over yet. With the afghanis cleared out I’m have room for my photos now. Blue Frankenshine is scheduled for a haircut and a scrog net. And everyone else is getting moved outside. Ive been gardening off the girls for a few days now so they should be acclimated by this weekend.

So I left AA6 to do it’s thing for a few more days, I didn’t see any more nanners after searching a few times. We’re right around the predicted harvest so she’s gonna get the chop tonight if I have time and a big bubble is going to take over her pot.

I moved everyone outside and potted one big bubble and the honey cream seedling. My white widow didn’t make it so I’ll drop another seed and get a late start on it. Or run another auto I haven’t decided. Frankenshine is getting some LST before the scrog net is installed. Broke one of the main larger branches bending it over but I kind of expected it. Not a huge loss since this plant is already a good size. The big bubble got some LST and topped pretty aggressively. Should make a nice bush.

The critical reds are kicking ass! They smell so good, reminds me of juicy fruit gum. Putting on some nice weight and frost. Shows what better location for sun does for a plant. Crazy how different the bud structure is compared to the afghanis. Makes me realize just how huge the calyxs on the afghanis are! Uploading: 20240624_185426.jpg…

It really is. I’m excited to train it. I’ve never scrogged anything before. I like trying different pruning and training techniques on plants. I’ve spent years on tomatoes learning what method worked best for me. I learned it’s best to just let autos be for the most part. The critical reds I have hardly touched except for some minor defoliation here and there are doing better than the afghanis I tried super cropping and breaking with the hose lol. Speaking of afghanis here’s AA6 before she gets the chop tonight. She came out so much better than AA3. Much frostier and denser buds

That looks awesome!! I’ll bet youll really enjoy that one, I have one with a similar bud structure with those big ass calyx under their own leaf. When dry you can just break them off. I think it was one of my 1 footers . Great for sleeping not so much for daytime.

Also your tomatoes look great! I just picked my first 2 ripe ones today. Well one I picked a couple days ago but just now getting ripe. I had one mush in my hands so I got over zealous, but the rest all look great.

Which tomatoes were those? I don’t remember what seeds I sent lol. I only remember the sending striped Romans and those aren’t them. Those look like gills all purpose maybe? Don’t remember if I sent those :joy:.

They are some heirloom from some specialty seeds that were real old, I have no idea. I had one plant but they were amazing so I kept some seeds and sprouted then this year. They are really flesh, hardly any liquid or seeds. I have one of yours finally getting some size out there too.

nice. Heres my old Germans,.striped Romans and Emmy lou tomatoes. They’re starting to produce a good amount of buds now and a few tomatoes. Should be a few.more weeks before I can make a tomatoes sandwich. Harvested all my lettuce…chopped.the broccoli yesterday and have already had a couple zucchinis. Cucumbers are starting to pop and the Brussels sprouts are sprouting. Potato tower is struggling in the heat. I should have put it in a shady spot.

I made a scrog screen for blue frankenshine. It’s 4x4 and she’s already touching two sides. Should be a fun grow!

Slow day again at work so I started scrolling through my camera roll. Here’s some pics of the garden.

You garden looks great man! I enjoy seeing the other plants grown in addition to cannabis. I like the scrog idea outside. There was a guy that did that somewhere I had seen. It was awesome. He had a monster scrog on a giant single plant with about 1000 perfect little colas haha.
My tomatoes are just starting to throw the first fruits. I cleaned up the bottoms this year and am trying some new trellis ideas besides the cage. First off is the strings to my greenhouse frame which goes 8-10 ft from low to high.

This one is a Large Red Cherry

Here we have the flat trellis. I just did this yesterday so I can grow the plant flat and support the fruit. I’m hoping it fills in the trellis above .This one is called Tony’s specialty Tomato. He’s a local guy with a garden center. It’s a beefsteak, supposed to be the best for BLT’s people say.

This is my work in progress bamboo teepee. Another Beefsteak I believe.

You have a beautiful garden there! Tomatos have been my thing for a while now. I’ve tried all types of training methods. Tomato cages are the worst for indetrminate tomatoes great for determinate plants like cherry tomatoes though. I’ve found the best results for indeterminate plants come from trelissing the plant up a single pole or string and keep it down to one or two vines. I wrap the plant around a pole as it grows and cut off all suckers so I have only one main stem. Prune lower leaves near the soil and any interior leaves that may cause lack of air flow. Keep the leaves over your tomatoes to block the sun.

I used to plant around 20 or so tomato plants. I found single vine plants produce more flavorful tomatoes and are easier to manage when it comes to disease and pests caused by excess humidity and moisture. You’ll see large greenhouses use the string trellis method often and prune to a few vines. Ive never built the frame for a string trellis because I rotate planting every year or two. Bamboo poles work great too. I used to use 8 foot furring strips hammered into the ground about 1 foot. Tomatoes plants would reach the top and bend over and work their way back down. Was funny to see them sway around on windy days. The tomato forrest.

Good to know. I think mine are all the bushy type but I’m growing them more like vines. I figure if I spread them out they’ll fill in like a cannabis plant. Maybe … Our climate is just starting to warm up so these thing are really starting to explode.
We have an unlimited amount of bamboo so it’s fun to build all kinds of stuff out of it. Usually I run out of trellis height and the plants start to flop over. So this year I’m going to try and get them as I can.
The way they grow them in the greenhouse is cool. I saw a show on that not long ago. I couldn’t believe how long the vines were. That would actually be cool to grow around my frame. I used it for cannabis one year but the neighbors complained too much, and I don’t have a use for that much smoke. It’s still a work in progress. It’s nice to have in the winter for a warmer dry area for my son to play in. I may have to set it up again.
Side note… have you heard people say it’s actually better to wrap the air pots when growing organic. Theory is you don’t ever want your soil to dry out because your microbes will go dormant. A lot of guys wrap them in ceram wrap. That looks kinda shitty though so I used the cedar fencing.
