I’m a beginner grower, just popped 2 Gorilla Cookies auto (new ones, my last run had to be cancelled cuz they where very small in week 7). Because of that, trying to be extra cautious this time, specially with overwatering.
The seedlings are in day 3 (lights just turned on). I’m using 50% sphagnum moss 50% perlite mix, in a 2x2. I’m using a 150W QB, currently at 50cm from the pots, at 50% intensity.
The thing that’s bothering me is that they are bending away from the light, even though in the photone app i measured around 220 ppfd on the top of the seedlings. The soil was very dry yesterday, i gave them some water (slowly so it could be absorbed by the hydrophobic soil) and some hours after that they seemed to perk back up. Today, after lights went on, i took a look at them and they seem to be bending again (the plant is not completely bending, just the top part). My temps and humidity are in the range of 22-26 Celsius and 55-65%.
Am i just overreacting, could it be too little light (even though i have more than 200ppfd, which seems to be in range for seedlings) or something else?
I struggled a lot with the frequency, quantity and how to water in my last try, trying to apply the corrections to my mistakes right now!
I read that the seedlings have enough energy to last maybe a couple weeks, i just watered for now, but my soil is inert. Do you think i should already be giving it small doses of nutrientes?
Will do it! For now im not watering the whole pot (that was one of my mistakes last time), instead im doing a circle arround it, trying not to water at the stem. I noticed i have to water reeealy slowly, otherwise only my top layer gets proper hydration.
This time i waited for the soil to be quite dry and used 500ml each pot… i will increase the water amount slowly as they grow!
Pick up the pot each time and at various times when you catch yourself staring at them. That is a valid way to access the weight and if its light or not which means water or not
Also, just putting you finger into the top of the soil near the plant, is it dry or sticks to your finger like an unfinished brownie?
I hope this helps, just in a general gardening sense as well
I have a little bit of difficulty getting to remember the weights, but im for sure gonna lift them more often and try to figure that out!
Before watering, i think it was too dry, my finger came as clean as it went into the soil… right now i feel like it is at that unfinished brownie (love the analogy hahaha)
I sowed her in the final pot (3 Gallon / 12L), since they are autos i tried to avoid transplanting, but i guess it makes the caring for the seedlings harder, at least for me it looks like it
I will be doing the log i told you guys if things look good in the next week! Just don’t wanna jinx it yet since they are so fragile and everything can happen
Youll be alright man plenty of help here just ask away. We all are more than happy to guide you along the way. Seriously any ? Is a good one when learning. I like everyone else has been in your shoes. I know by your tone your excited to grow your own medicine thats a good step! Just remember less is more with mj. Good luck brother
Also when you have time lets see your setup and light distancing and stuff like that. That will help when you have more questions. Seedlings in general is the hardest part of the grow. Just get them established and youll have a great chance. Keep in mind too certain strains are more forgiven than others. Id stick with a solid proven one next like northern lights, skunk, or an afghan. They are great for new growers.
Ya agreed i was telling him.in pm watering is the hardest thing to learn and the most important. Wet/ dry cycles is crucial. I gave him some pointers to help with limit overwatering.
For me this is more about my convenience than plant health.
Peat holds a lot of water so I can soak them and then not need to think about them for awhile.
When I go away I leave my pots in 2” of water as like a reservoir boost and that kind of “overwatering” for 5–6 days is fine. I wouldn’t recommend it as standard practice though.
