I’ve got gnarly ptsd and was on benzos for 25 years, off for 5 and the best strain I’ve found for anxiety is Nepalese Jam from Ace, which has this calming, meditative, spiritual kind of thing. Very grounding but euphoric.
I actually get more anxiety from some indicas than sativas, I’ll feel like I can’t think and that gives me anxiety where only the most extreme sativas give me any kind of edginess, everyone’s different.
I don’t want to say anxiety specific but I’d say the Nepal Jam is a good mellow mild strain. Mrs Foreigner calls it beginner weed which isn’t a bad thing.
For sure, I’ve had Jamaican phenos which were like smoking crack and not in a good way, but I kept a mom around for years that was all peace and love, like getting a hug from God with a mind blowingly good vibe kinda high
I do remember the Rhinos being very calming, people always say knockout or sedative but that’s not always a serene experience. I’ve been smoking CBG flower mixed in with high THC once or twice a day lately and I think it’s making me a lot more calm and chill overall. The strain is The OC V2 from Hoku.
@Dirt_Wizard Yea there is something different about that high that makes you comfortable and relaxed vs like being glued to the couch. Some of the phenos smell majorly of cat piss. I opened up a 1/2 gallon jar of it on the second floor of my house and the wifey downstair immediately yells to check if the cat pissed somewhere
When I want a nice mellow, relaxing experience I like to mix regular (finished) flower with CBD (finished) flower at anywhere from 25-50% CBD flower, depending on the day. It works very well for me.
My favorite is CBD charlotte’s angel if you want something mellow, but if you’re cool with getting lit, I picked up some strawberry amnesia I got one from herbies. Was looking for something strong to help with my anxiety too
I know a lot of people dont like “World of Seeds” but Pakistan Valley is a good plant and I dont get any paranoia or racy feelings from it. Just a nice quiet, meditative type of peace. I just sit back and watch the world go by. “The Dude Abides”.
These are great ONLY if you are not going through difficult times at the present. Just to give you an example, I was used to smoking SSH and Amnesia for several months. I used it to work, to train, and for social gatherings. They worked wonderfully and helped me with social anxiety, group dynamics at work where a lot of people want to have a hand on things that are NOT of their particular purview and professional specialty, and to manage different figures with antagonistic tendencies within the family (Mother vs Wife vs Mother in Law; Brother in Law vs Me; situations like that).
However, stress started to accumulate as a result of not being valued for what I can bring to the table at my job (I am a legal consultant working with project managers in a technology related field and they dont know shit about the legal risks their actions pose for the company and instead of seeing me as an asset they see me as trouble), my wife does not seem to relax when my mother is around (she visited me for a couple of weeks), and my mother in law is truly a pain in the ass. All of this accumulated and one day, out of the blue or so it seemed, these trains started to induce in me severe anxiety, to the point of vomiting at least twice, so I had to stop smoking them altogether.
Under this psychological state, I have turned to kind indicas and hybrids, such as San Fune aka the Fume and Bluberry Muffin, to get that warm blanket over you feeling which is what I need right now to reset my mind so that I can tackle the first quarter of the year successfully.
Strains which are good for you under a particular set of conditions are not necessarily good for you under all set of conditions.
I think smoking for anxiety is largely dosage based. in medicine a therapeutic dose is the minimum required concentration in the blood to produce a positive desired effect, and the same is true with cannabis in my experience. take too much and it’s diminishing returns.
I couldn’t even smoke for awhile because every time I did I would get unwanted thoughts/anxiety but then when I came back I started off with teeny tiny hits and it was a world of difference and actually beneficial. something to consider…
I think cannabis for anxiety can be a slippery slope and is totally dependent on the user chemistry and their tolerance as it can also enhance that anxious mood . My wife is a super anxious person and weed makes it way worse for her. The slightest thc sets her off with uncontrollable shaking and puts her into a state of panic, it does not work for her at all.
