Best Digital Camera for £100 ish or less

Hey guys,

I’ve just sold my old digi cam, main reason was the poor macro quality.

I’ve been looking at the canon ixus 185 which looks good value and claims macro distance of 1cm, anyone tried this cam?

Main criteria:
Ability to take decent macro shots
Plug and play ie no proprietary software to install to upload pics
Uses normal replacable AA batteries

I’d love to hear what cams you guys recommend.

Me too.

I am a novice shutter bug who could use a serious upgrade at some point.

Thanks for asking @Sunshine .

I’m big fan of Canon cameras… I’ve been using their DSLRs for long time and then moved to point-and-shoot compact G11 (today G1-X) for day to day carrying and use (I’ve been tired to bring various lenses with me).

G11/G12/G13/G1-X are models from top compact line from Canon so about 300 GBP… But you could probably get some older refurbished model (G11 - G13) cheaper.

For example G11 has closest focus distance 1 cm.

It uses their own Li-Ion battery though… but I see that as a advantage, because it has high capacity, it is quickly charged (charger supplied in the package) and I’m always bringing second backup battery with me.

@LemonadeJoe any examples of some macro shots with this camera?

Fujifilm S700 series can be had for pretty cheap on most websites, i’ve used these cameras they are pretty good value for what you pay.

In fact, most of the “DSLR” like fujifilms are pretty good value for the money.

Thanks for the tips guys
@Jellypowered believe it or not I had a fujifilm s700 but sold it about 5 years ago  I didn’t think I’d use it again so sold it for peanuts…I had a really nice case for it aswell.
@LemonadeJoe I’ll definitely check out the G11, they seem to go for around my budget second hand as you suggested so definitely one I’ll be hawking ebay for a deal.
What’s everyone else using for macro shots? Any good compact digital cams?
Thanks and happy new year everyone
