Thankfully for us, it didn’t start. We went out to a very nice Greek restaurant in San Francisco the night of the 24th, then spent the next day quietly together at home. Tonight we had a semi-traditional Hanukah dinner (potato latkes with sour cream and apple sauce, brisket with fresh horseradish, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed broccoli rabe, and house made doughnuts with house made strawberry jam. I told Mrs. mota that tonight’s dinner took me right back to being a little kid at what for us were big family dinners (12-15 adults plus kids of various ages). They always happened at one of the rich uncles houses.
Oh, we went for a couple of walks too.
Our cat, Genki, has definitely been liking us both here basically 24 hours a day. We like it too.
Hanging out with my little fam jam, eating, laughing, watching movies, burning wood.
We took a different route this year, no homemade anything = no dishes & no work,
Just relaxing and having a break.
Ever year we say we ar going to Mexico or somewhere to skip the holidays but we’d have to include my parents. I can’t ditch them on Christmas morning. I just can’t do it.
We are approaching 44 years of marriage, and during those years we have had crab cakes for our Christmas Eve special dinner. The lump crab meat was particularly lumpy and very sweet; much like myself these days.
Christmas morning with brother sister and spouses featured fruit salad, pancakes, and bacon. Christmas crackers are mandatory and the paper crowns are never large enough to fit my pumpkin head. The “jokes” are read aloud followed by a “fun fact to know”.
For me the best part was having my wife, kids and daughter-in-law all together eating food, laughing and watching movies. Made for a perfect Christmas.
