Hey guys! Doing a project this summer, 300 sativa plants under greenhouses. Going to be pulling tarp all summer to get them to finish.
My question to you all is, how do I cut costs on soil without cheaping out and putting the grow at risk? Amendments aside, just talking media here.
I use coast of Maine soil for my indoors, but that’s not economically viable at this scale. I was planning on doing 3-5 gallon pots, start pulling tarp as soon as I can take clones, and hope for a quick finish. Zone 6b.
Am I crazy? Should I just plant direct in the ground? I’m afraid vermin will shred everything from underground.

Plant direct in the ground and add and mix in neem meal for some pest control with the soil. If the soil is poor go find rotten logs that are broken down and mix that in the soil as well.
This is what you want to find in rotten logs. It will improve poor soils.

Start in small cups with a good soil mix so everything can establish a strong root.
After that move them straight into dirt with some compost/ewc in each hole.

I used to run a few thousand feet of light dep with raised beds, and used to use a local landscape yard. The big ones that do bulk soil mixes will usually have a few really solid options. But Id get the bulk promix style, and itd be real cheap and delivered.
