In honor of my birthday this week (Sept 22) I started some seeds. I generally try to start seeds (or flip lights etc) around memorable days because my grow journals usually fizzle out. This way I at least I remember the ‘big’ dates. This time I am making a better effort to document my grow and keep better notes. I am no professional and welcome advice!
I will use this journal to improve future indoor grows and hone in my craft. Hopefully @OG can keep me accountable for my records! Goals:
Continue my efforts to work through old seed stock
Explore seeds connected to @OG
Confidently train and prune for airflow and quality bud production
Select 5 plants maximum after 5 weeks veg
Grow Environment
3x3’ Vivosun Tents ( 1 veg 1 flower)
10’’ oscillating fans on growing floor
Small clip on fan
Small cheap corded metal desk fan exhaust
Veg Tent Lighting (smaller light for first 2 weeks, then both lights for remaining veg)
Xen-Lux 135w LED (Bought on Craigslist, lots of visible blue light)
and
Superbrightcom ~240watt LED (Craigslist from same dude, more visible red and larger light) Flower Tent Lighting
Mars Hydro TS1000
Grow Medium
Recycled Soil
Earth Juice Grow (Pictured)
Earth Juice Bloom
Ganja Leaf FPJ (from current/previous grows)
Red Pepper/Alcohol Tincture (As needed for bugs)
Seeds
Spirit Train F2 R/P/8 (Thank you @Sebring!)
Hollands Hope R/A?/13 (Random gifted seeds from vault that spoke to me) I really do not believe these are autos, but I have no idea!
Sunset Sherbert 1Bagseed
POTENTIALLY: 1 or 3 clones from this yrs outdoor. Safety net
I decided to start these in paper towel and move to a tray to level the playing field for all seeds. This will hopefully help me get over my soft side for culling plants. I plan to move the winners into solo cups.
My plan is to top and train aggressively to establish 8 - 20 colas per plant, depending on how they respond. I have about 5 weeks until flower tent opens up. I do not flower perpetually. Ill wait until everything is done to clean and re-set. I have a projected flip date of Halloween
This S.S is a local cut that has been extremely medicinal for me. I was able to grow a clone when I started out, but was too novice to save a cut (or even knew how to for that matter! lol). We shall see what comes of this. I am still trying to get the original cut back into my garden
Struggling a little bit with watering in the early stages. They stabilize after they get into 1 gals with rice hulls on top.
Jumping ahead a little bit.
I kept everything small while I navigated a few projects in my life. Unfortunately in the process I lost the Sunset Sherbert
11/29 ish
I took clones and topped all viable seedlings.
I’m trying out a DIY cloner. Basic set up with a small water pump and prebuilt manifold to spray the water. I put a 90um Rosin squish bag over the intake pipe to help.
I Keep the water PH’d and check it daily for clogs or low water levels. It took a few days of running it to filter all of the sediment out of the water. The stock filter and my squish bag filter would clog every 2 days for the first week. After the water was cleaned, it worked well. (I have a private well for water)
Flipped 12-4-21
I have no good reference to remember this flip day I am relying on Overgrow to remember this one. I finally had time to focus on the bloomroom and impulsively flipped. I also have new genetics popping now and have to keep things moving!
12-10
Plants are in flower and looking good.
My presexing was not the best
I ended up with 6 lemon skunks in flower with 2 spirit trains. That has been dropped down to 2 lemon skunks and 1 spirit train
All males culled were able to be fermented for a good transition feed.
And were up to date
Current daily feed/water
2mls FPJ
1ml WCA
1T Epsom Salt
Ive been using an air stone for 10 minutes or so to mix.
They also get overage of worm teas for the veg room/house plants.
Here is where they are at
I think those holes and extra pots will end up being a blessing. I have a pack of new genetics and a whole tray of birthday cake clones that I may stack in
Bluemats also came in this week. I was hoping to get a little help with regulating the moisture in the soil. Ill try them out on this tent and hopefully run a line into the mother tent too.
The stretch is on! I did a little training with canna-ties. Lemon skunk #3 is a little more lanky right now. But the two phenos I’m left with look pretty similar. Both #1 and #3 have a nice lemon cleaner smell on the stem. spirit train is doing okay… it seems kinda wimpy and is temperamental with wind or cooler Temps Feed is the same
2mls FPJ
1ml WCA
1T Epsom Salt
I’m finishing up an FFJ I did with a gourd I got back in November and looking forward to adding that.
Also Brewing up a worm tea tonight for the veg and I’m sure I will add some of that tomorrow to these 3 ladies.
2 in the back are Lemon Skunk
This picture is of the 2 Lemon Skunks. It looks like they are very similar in structure and smell. Any variance in vigor or looks has seemed to even out.
Blumats got hooked up last week and the Jury is still out.
I’ve noticed its slowing down my feeding a little bit. I have to find ways to integrate my inputs on a regular basis with this system.
Im planning to clear out a bunch of leaves and foliage in a week. Usually this helps keep my temp and humidity stabile.
Everything is moving along nicely
I got a little leaf curl on the top colas. They got about 6" from the led… that might have had something to do with it. I had to re rig the light to get a little headroom for the home stetch
Also,
I’ve been looking for a more passive and simple way to clone, that’s why the plastic baggies keep showing up.
I’ve been experimenting with rooting cuttings in cubes, in recycled baggies, at the base of the plant. This is helping me save space and stay organized. It also makes it less stressful for for clones when i have to cut in flower.
I’m experimenting with different mediums and pre-soaks of those mediums. It’s been fun and I’m having some success.
Update 1/2 50/51F Hollands Hope
I saw some abnormal growth that looked like new growth on the tips of a few nugs. I really expected it to foxtail and grow goofy but today I found these. I made the decision to chop. I wanted to make sure I salvaged the 2 *Lemon Skunks and 1 Spirit Train I have in the tent. Ill add it into the hash run when I trim up this tent.
Lemon Skunk
Still doing really well. It will come down to the smoke test between these two. #1 has longer colas but hasn’t thickened up. It has more thin leaves than its sister #3 has similar smells as #1. They both are really generic right now. #3 has more thick nugs, but it is starting to add some new wispy growth on top of a few nugs that I don’t care for. I figure its about 15-20 days out.
Spirit Train
Looks decent and frosty. I didn’t really do enough with this plant. I’m hoping to reveg this one. I’d like to try SOG with a short veg next time.
Feed
3ml FFJ Ripe banana
4ml FFJ Gourd (small, hard pumpkin)
3ml WCA
3ml OHN
2ml FPJ Ganja Leaf
2ml Ph Down
1 1/2 T Epsom
Splash of EM1 microbial inoculant
*I’ve been alternating EM1 and 1/2 T Growers Recharge every 4 days or so
This is a picture of my supply. It really doesn’t take up a lot of room for me to house all my inputs. I do my fermenting in large quart jars. The pots I use have around 3 and 4 cycles in them. I try to switch up my microbial inoculants. I use LAB, local worm castings, local straw, and dead leaves in conjunction with a few store bought things as well. This winter (indoor, THC) I’m using EarthJuice Grow, Growers Recharge, and EM1.
I also use some PhDown. I do use lemons when I have them. My well water is around 8ph, so often times I don’t have to use it in our living soil.
As for the homemade inputs. There were a few things I’ve bought.
Banannas, Brown Sugar, Beer, Grain Alcohol, Angelica Root, Licorice, Cinnimon, milk, rice…
Update from 65F I had this typed and never submitted like a goof. but i was happy it was still here
Lemon Skunk 3
Got the chop after finding some intersex traits. There were some purple stems and evidence of environmental stress that might have been the cause. At any rate, I chopped and through right into the freezer with the Hollands Hope for bubble hash. I noticed a lot of abnormality in growth from branch to branch. That led me to keeping a close eye on it and saw some pollen sacs after a week of observing. The intersex branches had MUCH less trichome development (for obvious reasons) which led me to noticing the issue.
Spirit Train
Still packing on frost. I am excited to work more with this line. I have a cut in the cloner now (fingers crossed) and I plan to reveg. I still have seeds left that I might explore later after a few other projects. Smells of nice citrus spray paint. I love it.
