Male is about ready to drop pollen, and som of the females are making flowers up high. Somebody turned on the closet overhead light for the first 1 or 2 weeks of “flower”, and i didn’t notice til a week or 10 days ago or there would be seeds forming already. (Lights were on 24hrs)
It looks like i have the same thing happening as last time, with those few mutant male flowers possible. Just one plant has 1 ball so far, and the plants are further along than they were last time when i noticed. The plants made from this pollen last time are stable so far. 3 females, 1 male. I did some reading on this to confirm that it’s possible to get male plants from selfed pollen, and it is indeed a thing.
I truly believe the plants knew they needed to make us some regular seeds to perpetuate this heirloom, and they did so.
I’m going to let the lone male flower contribute to the seedrun unless there is concensus that it should be culled.
@Hashpants has not gotten cuttings yet for a fem run. My first batch of cuttings got destroyed at work by the wind, the day after i offered them up. That made me shy about sending something unrooted. There is a last batch of branches ready to snip, and i plan to root those before mailing but also want to offer s1 seeds for the purpose. So far they are more stable than the parents were.

all the old cannabinoids in the profile have not been bred out to favor thc. I find lower thc smoke( mid teens to maybe low 20’s) to be more potent than high thc strains, more often than not. More effect.
This Black Tuna has been grown by a hippie family for several decades in Cali. My guess is that the strange early male flower trait is what has kept it going all these years. Pure luck. Best “hermies” ever, lol.

Long time no update.
Soooo…full backstory. The plants were moved to a new location that required some demo. To kill mold spores bleach water was sprayed in the room. Shortly afterwards, some stoner sprayed half the plants down, and Didn’t realize the mistake until smelling bleach. They were quickly washed off with regular water, But not before many of the leaves were bleached white. I picked these leaves off, And then started twelve twelve cycle , not long after. I thought. Only the overhead light in the room was on 24/7. So that was the second cluster fuck. The plants are finally cruising along, although they are clearly wanting a different light imo. Very soon I will start bringing them outdoors during the day, if winter ever ends. Snow 4 nights this week so far. Unghh. During days I have to leave them in, I’ll be firing up my new Phlizon 1,000 watt LED i won here on OG. Can’t wait to fire that up! Its a beauty!
Anyway, pollen is flying finally and the ladies are receiving. We finally have ourselves a seedrun. The seed plants have 2 phenos. One shorter and one a little taller. Redstem traits are common, as are purple petioles and stems. Here are some photos of the seed plants and then a room shot showing the others…mostly #3 from the looks of it. They are darker.
The clones are doing the same early male flowers. The seed plants are not. I suspect this trait will be carried along into the generation I am passing out. I hope you all can deal with that. I think it’s going to take a couple generations to get rid of the trait if it can be gotten rid of. Just pick off the male flowers and have seedless, or allow them to do their thing and make yourself some seeds. Easiest hermies ever. The trait COMPLETELY disappears by the time pinky nail flowers are on the plants. Maybe 5-20 balls on a plant, all at the base of the top buds.

Mistakes happen! Giod to see you’ve corrected the problem and are getting back on track! Ive always wanted to try this strain, ive heard a o much about it, so hopefully once you fire up the 100w philzon thing’s start ti fire on all cylinders! Keep up the great work mate

Long winter my friend. Too long. They’re good now. They’ll be making seeds within a couple weeks at most.
@Cranio i have to say, spraying the plants with bleach was a first🤣. I had too much going on and wasn’t organized enough to get a second room up and running without a Snafu or 2. I chose 2😁

Morning folks. I just stumbled across this thread. I’ve got two coin flips of Black Tuna I was gifted by TST, long before the silliness occurred. I had put a bag of stuff from him aside, having mixed feelings about running them.
I’m still not sure what I’ll do with the seeds, but I’m following this. I’ve got about the next 6 months where I’ve committed to. Then I’ll have time for something different. What really got my interest was when I saw @SHSC-1 commenting. He knows strong weed, no matter what the #s say.

the Tilray cut pops late nanners but it was so close to harvest that they were just little bananas popping out of the buds here and there. You had to look for them and only found them during harvest. That is just one cut that was selected by whatever grower found it but it does show that there is potential intersex traits in the line.
Interestingly I didn’t notice any pollen from those nanners contaminating my younger plants that were 2 or 3 weeks into flower when I pulled the black tunas. Did a few crosses and though i didn’t test out 100+ seeds of each, what was grown by myself and other growers seemed stable enough.
I’ve poked around to try and get the clone back but with legalization and the big clone houses shutting down, it seems to have disappeared from my circles.

@Hashpants is doing a fem run. I sent him seeds and cuts. He’s the best candidate for those seeds if you’re looking to have more seed made. They are very very slightly hermie…right at the start of flowering.

This line is stable in that regard. Strange trait, ( early balls)but a Blessing an old hippie recognized its usefulness (this time)
