Bodhi Soulmate f2 grow & f3 / S1 making

The Soul Mate male (with the pistils) opened several more flowers today, and it looks like it does have pollen, although not very much.

I’ve started to soak some more of the Soul Mate f2s, and will sprout them in the hopes of getting a decent male.
I’ll be keeping clones from the 3 females and using one of the clones from each for a seed f3 run provided I get viable pollen.

damn that sucks about your boy there.
I’d kill it as it looks full blown intersex.

@antheis I’ve done some reading and searching for info on these, a lot of what DJ short says seems to point to it actually being good for breeding.
Depending on why exactly it is showing female traits of course…
The theory is that, if it is producing excess female hormones, then if this gene is passed on, it will lead to it actually being more difficult for female plants to produce hermies… I’m just not really sure I want to risk that to be honest.

I’ll likely just try and source a male from the extra beans I’ve started soaking and then pollinate the clones of the females I currently have in veg.

well then you have to ask, ‘is it a male making too much ethylene, or a female making too much gibberillin?’ the answer to that question requires a lab. it’s easier to just kill it and move on.
your end goal is also much more easily achieved, in theory, through a reversed female donor rather than a male.

the brightside is that you have extra beans to pop.

i mean, since you already have it, and if dj short says that, try it! i know nothing about this but could it also produce more female than male seeds, cause of it being “extra female”

@supershitfuck supe
So that was one of the other theories, that you get a higher ratio female to males too.
There just isn’t really that much info, as most people kill males on sight, and then very few are actually flowered out…and when they show traits like this they’re discarded.

Funnily enough Bodhi did share some posts back in 2016 of his males with pistils as well, even said that one of his males would produce a ‘crown’ of female flowers on top of the male flowers.

Thought about emailing him and see if he has any input, although I’m sure he’s pretty busy lol.

ask him. dudes like that wana talk about this shit all day!

I’ve emailed him, I doubt he gets on here at all.

A bit of a busy week at work, so it’s been a quiet week in the garden.

I’ve finished collecting pollen from the male, and removed it from the cupboard now. Still undecided wether to use any of it or not. There is a Soul Mate female flowering in that cupboard at the moment anyway, which will no doubt have been pollinated, so I’ll most likely just collect some beans from her and see what they do.

Started 4 more Soul Mates f2s this week in search of a another male, they’re now in the dirt with pretty big taproots, under a 12/12 schedule. So hopefully I’ll have something in a month’s time and I can pollinate some of the #2 clones.

Did some bending of the tops on the Ladies in veg this week, really starting to fill out the canopy now.
I’ll have to flip these to flower soon, or they’ll end up being absolute monsters.

And final in the tiny pot that I’m trying to root some clones in, this little mushroom popped up!

Figured I miight as well post this here as well just so I can keep track of everything that’s happening in this journal.

I’d created a separate post to ask about some slight discolouration on the leaves of #2

It’s not exactly a problem just yet, but wanted to catch any potential problems early,
From the advice given, it could possibly be from low temps, or slightly high pH, maybe even LED being too powerful for veg.
Although from most things I’ve read my lights seem to be underpowered if anything.

So I’ll be trying to increase the temps to steady 80f+ and will check my tap water, as it had previously risen to pH 8.6 in recent months.

Not a lot to report on the Soul Mates, I checked the pH on my tap water today while watering the other plants, it came to 7.25, so pH is fine. I’m guessing I need to boost temps a little.

Meanwhile in the flowering cupboard…

The Gasoline Dreams (Soul Mate x Strawberry Diesel) are coming along nicely under 12/12 from seed.
I made these crosses using both of my Soul Mate Males (square pots the Big Boi pheno (B) and circular pots the Andre phe o (A)). The Strawberry Diesel mother was from Holy Smoke Seeds.
I planted 2 of each beans and got a male and female from each. Really happy with this, as I’ll make some seeds from these and then look for a Strawberry Diesel leaning offspring in the f2s.
Males at the front, ladies at the back.

Managed to up the temps to around 79-80f and reduce the wattage of the lights to 276, this seems to have helped with the slight discolouration on some of the lower leaves. Hopefuthats the last I’ll see of it.

I’ll be adding a top dress in next day or so, then giving them a thorough soak around 10% by volume before flipping to flower this weekend.
Dont want these things getting too big.

Mulch layer is absolutely thriving, I’m always seeing some little bugs crawling around and plenty of fungi (?) growth across the surface.

Also had these little beauties pop up overnight in one of the smaller pots!
I’m not as adventurous as I used to be, so I didn’t eat them lol.

Living soil is the bomb yo.

100%! It just feels like this how they should grow…I mean, as close as I can get in a tent anyways lol.
I’m seeing the best and healthiest growth of any plants I’ve grown.
I have had a small amount of bugs to contend with, possibly thrips, but seem to have taken care of them with some foliar spraying and sticky traps.

Switched to flower last night, so I’m marking this as day 1 flower.
They had been down to 16/8 for the past 4 days and they’re down to 12/12, which I might drop to 11/13 around week 6.

#1 is back centre, #2 front right, #3 back right.

I’ve also moved the one of Soul Mate females that I intended to scrap earlier on, but I’ve been flowering in the cupboard instead lol. So that small one in the centre, is about 5 weeks into flower now.
There are also x2 Gasoline Dreams in there and x3 more Soul Mates f2s in the little pots at the front.

The mystery seeds are doing well too, still no idea what they will be lol.
The SAD CBD is coming along nicely, and after harvesting one of these in the solo cup comp, I’m looking forward to this one.
And finally, the c99 x Mendo Breath is looking good, loving the structure on this one, it’s responded well to topping and training and hopefully I’ll get a decent yield out of this for the pot size.

Earlier this week before the flip to flower I added a top dress consisting of; Vermicompost, powdered banana skin, small amount of powdered egg shell, Kelp meal, Crustacean meal, neam meal and insect frass. Topped that off with a touch of malted barley on the surface and watered in with a compost tea… tried to supercharge them as they go into flower, and they’re look to have responded really well. Surface of the soil is thriving!

Wow they all look super happy. That topdress and tea kicked off a huge fungal bloom. I think you’re right, they’re mcloving it! Can’t wait to see how they turn out…

The top of that soil looks insane. I half thought all that mycelium looked like a dense fog in the mulch layer, real trippy photo

Haha, yeh looks like a morning kiss settling across the land… I think the combination of the malted barley and the tea have definitely kicked the fungal growth into overdrive.

Thanks bro! I’m loving this grow too, it’s been a learning curve for sure, but I’m so happy to be growing this way now.
I do spend a bit too much time just watching all the little bugs crawling around the mulch layer and staring at the fungi in the pots haha.

Been a while since I gave you an update on SM F2’s. Hope it’s not too much info, lol!

I scoped some sugar leaves and thought I had some very weird bugs. Round, yellow spots over most of the leaves. When I looked closer, I could see something that looked like trichs in the middle of some, and something that looked like hairs, but transparent/translucent like trich stalks, but with pointy ends! There were a lot more of the hairs than the trichs.

The scope is an old school lab kind. It’s actually from a school lab that’s was old, too!

I tried to get some pics with my phone. They suck pretty badly!

What else was weird was that I couldn’t see those spots without a scope, and they also showed through on the underside of the leaves.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has ever seen 'em or knows what they are!

Harvested #1 10/23

Broke it down a few days ago. It had a lot of micro seeds, nothing ripe… and only 2x nanners, at least that I could find, and I was looking.

I had a Pine Tar Gush put out a bunch of balls and some jizz a couple of months ago. They weren’t in the same area, and I don’t believe in solitary confinement, so here could have been a conjugal visit. But, this girl flowered for 7 weeks after that, I’d a thought the seeds would be ripe?

I let her go 70 days, maybe too long?

She had a bit of mold, too. Only the nicest buds, of course. I do have pm if I don’t sweep the plants daily with a UV-c light. I never saw any pm, and haven’t had any grey mold since I started with the UV 2years ago.

Farmin’, lol!

Nonetheless, good harvest, for me. 6 zips of nice bud, out of a 2 gallon airpot of coco. Probaby a zip of mold, and 3.5 oz’s of seeded for tinctures.

I’ll break her out next week and give a smoke report.

#2 is at 60 days. No yellow spots!

Lotta foxtails, but they don’t look seeded like #1.

The UV light can add some distress to the lower, used up fans.

I scoped her, and while there’s no yellow spots, there are a lot of the hairs on the tops of the leaves, and the undersides are loaded with trichs with glands.

Since she’s coming down soon, I just gave her a good haircut now… makes it way easier for me to dry trim later.

Your lassies are looking great. I guerilla grew organic for a long time, but when I tried and tried indoor organic, ROLS it was usually a disaster. For every step forward, it was 20 steps back :frowning: Coco leveled the playing field! But, I envy you folks that can pull the indoors organic off!
