No no no, dude! Haha. If they’re females, even if they’re “runty,” grow them out. How many times have you read a log where the poster was like,”Man, I didn’t think this little runty bitch was gonna make it, but she ended up being the best smoke outta everything…”? Or, I mean, do whatever you want, but I’ll never toss a female.
That’s a great fiancée right there. I don’t ever plant mystery seeds, but I WISH my girl could look at the garden and be like,”That appears to be a Headband/Snow Lotus cross. Notice the thin-ish leaves and wider internodes…” or whatever haha!

I’m not sure exactly what she’s making her assumption based on lol, perhaps she just remembers better what seeds I’ve planted in the past haha.
I know what you mean about the runts, I don’t want to lose any to be honest, but I’ll only be growing out 3 of them. so I’ll likely be losing one or two eventually.
I still have a lot of the f2 seeds so I can easily pop some more in future for another run.

I think my SM’s took at least 8 weeks to start showing… the early ones were males! I think it was more like 10 weeks to see a girl.
Even in coco w/salts, I use mycos at every upcanning… seems to work!
And, there are runts and then there are runts. I’ve had very few that turned out to be special, ymmv,

I mean, define “runts” haha. I’m thinking back now to my Time Bandit grow last year. I think I started six seeds and all of them looked like shit four or five weeks in, especially compared to the other stuff that was growing alongside them. I was actually considering tossing all of them, even though it would’ve pained me to do so. But they really did just look AWFUL. Got them into their half-gallons after around five weeks, looked a little better. And two weeks later, I put them in their seven-gallon airpots and they just took offfffff. Looked great, yielded okay, smoked AMAZING.
I dunno. I’ve been having such bad luck with male/female ratios the past few years that I’m apprehensive about tossing anything. And I feel like everything I’ve ever grown where I was like,”Hm. I dunno about this one…” in veg has ended up turning out more than acceptable.

I define a runt as a “can’t get right,” sorta like some people I know. Unless it’s plant that I really want to keep, like the last struggling clone of something I just lost, it’s outta here!
Nah, I’ll keep anything around, if I have the room and the energy. That’s just not usually the case. Plus I’ll bet I’ve only had a handful of runts impress, and I dropped my first seed in '70… I’m a geezer!
Moved the young SM out into the big stage. She started to show pistils after a week. I keep them on a 10/14.
I let her go a little longer, so I think she’ll get a bit bigger than No 1. I am happy with the way she looks after being such a paleface.
No 1 is still looking great. Still a little slow on the frost, well at least compared to some other Wookish plants I’ve grown. Still a nice floral smell, very delicate, with a bit of fresh meadow in there, maybe a wildflower meadow even!
Hope it’s helping you look into the future SoA… I can quit if it’s too much drivel!

Absolutely happy for you to keep sharing your grow.
While this may be my journal, I’m happy for others to share their experiences with the same or even similar genetics, and that way the whole thread becomes a source of information for future reference on these varieties.
Plus I like seeing bud shots lol.

Not too much happening this week, had a busy week at work, so I’ve only just kept the ‘garden’ ticking over.
Did some topping and super cropping on the two mystery seeds,
As well as the C99x Mendo Breath and the Sweet Afghani Deliciousc(pic).
Here’s a little look at my solo cup entry too.
Sweet Seeds Sweet Afghani Delicious CBD.
And some nice fungal growth on the cover too.

I’ve also started to soak some of my ‘Gasoline Dreams’ (Soul Mate x Strawberry Diesel) seeds.
Because I’m flowering the solo cup in the cupboard I’m going to do some of my crosses 12/12 from seed in there as well, just for fun really.
I like popping seeds.

Today was the day for potting up into the 10gal pots. Here are the final 3, along with the 2 mystery seeds, c99 x mendo breath and S.A.D CBD.
From the 9 soul Mate f2s, I had two runts that just weren’t growing at all, so they were scrapped.
From the remaining 7, it looks like I might have 6 females. While I’d originally said I would only be keeping 3 of them, I just couldn’t let some of them go.
So I’ve potted up 2 of them into (slightly) bigger pots and put them straight into flower in the 12/12 cupboard.
At the moment there are 2 that have only just stated to show male preflowers, one of them is still too hard to see for sure.
Here are the two (possibly) males
*everything that went into the cupboard today had to be topped. I’m very limited on height in there.
For the 10 gal fabric pots I’ve selected 3 that are around the same height and also look quite similar in veg so far. Reason I’ve chosen the 3 similar plants is to hopefully make things easier to maintain as the grow goes on.
One of the females I put to flower straight away is very lanky and I’m expecting it will stretch quite a bit, so that would have been extra work to keep it the same height as the others.
For the transplant process I mixed up a batch of dechlorinated water aprox 8 ltrs, with a teaspoon of molasses and a teaspoon of Kelp meal, and bubbled that for about an hour while I potted the other plants up.
I lightly squashed down the cover crop and essentially mimicking grazing, made a small hole in the centre of the soil, and added some
mycorrhizal fungi. Once the plant was in, I top dressed with a mixture of compost and vermicompost, a spinkle of malted barley and then covered with some more barley straw. Then watered the whole thing (aprox 5% volume of the pots).
When I transplanted the the 3 to the 10gal pots, I noticed quite a bit of life in the soil, various little bugs/micro arthropods and some worms.
In one of the pots however I didn’t spot any bugs at all, so I took a small scoop of soil from each of the other pots and added it, hopefully this will add some little bugs to it.

On a slightly separate note.
Me and my fiancé took a trip to a local garden attraction/visitor centre this weekend…not really sure what you’d call it…
Anyway, it’s an absolutely beautiful place with hundreds of different species and varieties of plants, water features and sculptures.
But the highlight of the day was going on the guided tour of the “Poison Garden”.
Where they have various poisonous plants growing and the guide talks about the history of the plants and their properties.
The last plant on their tour is what I came to see.
To my surprise the guide actually started the talk about this plant by saying how beneficial it can be, and mentioned the use of CBD and treatments of various illnesses…then they did the usual propaganda speech about “skunk” and how cannabis had been genetically modified and causes Schizophrenia etc…
Unfortunately there wasn’t time to ask questions, and I had a lot of questions I wanted to ask!
Now I realised that this might seem quite mundane to people in US/Canada, or other legal areas.
But in the UK this isn’t something you can just see everyday. The head gardener at this place has to apply for a licence to grow this every year. And they have to have witnesses present when it’s being destroyed at the end of the season.
I really do hate that I live in such a backwards country.

That’s crazy ! Backwards is right, although I’m sure they will come around! Btw it’s looking good in there

Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger about being in a backwards country. I’m in the US, but my state is controlled by religious fanatics. God made everything , except for weed, lol!
I’ll be watching your lanky SM’s. The first Bodhi’s I grew were 2x freebies from Attitude. Both were males. I put them outside, and they were lanky indeed, so yours are probably Goji leaners, eh?
When you made the F2’s, was there any method in choosing the parents? I ask, because when I made seeds in the past, I never never really had one. A male was male to me, never even thought of looking for an outstanding one. I didn’t even know they’d be different!
And, I’d hit a low branch on a female, but never put any thought into picking out the best looking, or hitting the best bud, or anything in that regard. Definitely pollen chucking!
The SSDD’s I sent out were just a male knocking boots with a female I didn’t have room for inside.
I now understand there’s a bit of an art to it.
Just wondering.
Anyway, I think I’ve got one SM that’s a narrow leaf, and one a medium. It will be interesting to see if there’s any difference.
I love to go to different gardens, too. I joined a Master Gardener program for our county. Doesn’t mean I know shit, but I get to volunteer in different, really neat gardens. I get a lot of nice plants when we’re thinning out, lol!

Ah that awesome that you get to volunteer in places like that, I’d love to do something similar here too. Recently I’ve been thinking of going yo University to study something like Soul microbiology or horticulture or I don’t know something useful lol. When we do finally legalise in this country I’d like to have a head start and be able to do something with growing for a living.
When I did the pollination for the Soul Mate f2s, I had 2 very different males, and I used pollen from each to make the seeds. I also had a couple of different females, so I had to tag each branch and keep track of them. In my initial post of this thread there’s a link to RIU where I have a diary of that process, it has more detailthere 5yan I could recall from memory lol.
The f2s I’m using here are from a goji leaning male and a wookie leaning female. The same that you’ll have I believe.

I took some time this weekend to trim back the small pots, they were starting to explode, and I’ll have to keep them small, as the Soul Mates will still be vegging for another few weeks yet.
Before topping/super cropping/defoliating, I added aprox a tablespoon of malted barley, a sprinkling of ecothrive top dress amendment and then a couple of hand fulls of worm castings and compost, and topped them off with barley straw to stop them dryingout as fast.
Watered it all in with a coconut water and aloe mix.
Non of these really needed it right now, but in a week or twos time they probably will, so I’m trying to plan ahead.
Front two are the mystery seeds, the back left is SAD CBD, and back right is C99 x Mendo Breath (this has been the most vigorous, so it got the heaviest cut back).

Thanks! I’m just getting started with organics growing, but after a lot of hours of reading and watching a ton of Build A Soil videos, I’m started really have fun with it.

@LegsMahoney
I’m a bit gutted that they are doing the 5gals this round to be honest, that’s closer to the size pot I usually do, but this time I’m going with 10gal.
And in thise season they’re not doing any 10gal pots lol.
I was hoping to try and do a ‘grow along’ with them.
I really like how he explains things, and when he’s recommending products, he always tell you to make it yourself or source it locally…and eventually he’ll say “or you can buy it from us” lol.
