Brace yourself: ed Rosenthals site says you can germinate seeds in test tubes

in an article on how to professionally germinate seeds like they do in labs

also found out clones don’t have a tap root lol

Wow that’s a lot of steps. Some seem pretty darned superfluous (soaking in a multi-part salt-based nutrient solution?)

ETA: I got bored and didn’t read that far beyond the nutrient solution.

Jez I only made it to the pressure cooker before I gave up. This is more work than mushroom cultures and that HAS to be sterile.lol. Like a big advertisement for products and the hardest possible way to do something that nature does every second of every day. If it works for them then ,:+1: spend that $$$.
@yardgrazer you made it farther than me!

or you could throw a handful in a glass of water and sit in in a cupboard for a few days. but sure, one method is for “professionals”.

just forced myself to read the whole thing. damn, there is some bro science being spread around in that one.

“Cannabis seeds aren’t cheap.”

Last time I checked they literally grow on trees.

12 easy steps, or 37 sub-steps to germinate seeds if you took the time to count them as I did, and an additional 8 sub-steps to transplant.

Interesting article.

They lost me at 3 part nutrient solution and sterile environment!

I’m trying to create a living environment, full of bacteria and fungus, not a sterile one, full of nothing. As long as I do it right, the good stuff will outweigh the bad. And why would the seed need a nutrient solution? It literally hold everything you need to create a new life within it! What the hell would GH 3 part be able to add to that?

This tech isn’t really meant for cannabis, some plants, like Joshua Tree are almost impossible to germinate naturally. They need a tissue culture like start to get going. The mix is plant dependent. It would be useful I guess for germinating old seed

I’m inclined to find this way too complicated but it is neat.

@Loggershands I watch people kill the flavor of food with salt every time I see people eating. They’d salt Popsicles on a hot day. Kill themselves in the long run.
I have decent germ rates. Then they enter the kill zone for me. Germed seeds til they get out of Solos is not my happy place, but I’m working on it.

They forgot to say to use fresh clean underwear… :see_no_evil:

Oh I don’t have any of that.

Or just put some beans in some soil…… what a way to over complicate a very simple process. Wow

So they have to be fresh out of the the pack?

Jesus. No wonder I had such bad rates this go around. I skipped 37 steps.

I wonder how the ones that fall in dirt every make it

well, I ignored most of the article but when I saw you could germ seeds in a test tube I had to share lol, you can take 10 test tubes in a grid thing and germ and just slide the plant out, no potential damage to the taproot. I think its more efficient then germinating on a paper towel or a cup and potentially damaging the root moving it around

and there are cool tips on ed rosenthals website, its worth a good read

Too much work. Ed needs to realize the younger crowd has already taken his work from the 80s to another level.
Thank you Ed for all of your groundwork, but the biz is now '23.

Ya that was my first thought of the sprout in a test tube. That’s cute now wtf are you gonna do with it.:rofl::rofl:. Seems like an easy way to mess up your tap root just trying to be “scientific”. You can also buy one of his safari hats lol

Now I want to germinate a seed in one of his hats and send it to him with zero context lmao
