You should looks at DIY laminar air flow hoods. This will be important to avoid contamination when you are inoculating.

Nailing down a sterile process and sticking to it is key. I’d start there and practice. Pour some agar plates but dont inoculate. If nothing grows in a few days you are good. Repeat the process a couple times and you’ll be all set when you crack open the syringes.

If a DIY laminar flow hood is too much I’d advise building a still air box. I put about 500 plates through mine and maybe had a handful of contaminations.

Thanks that’s great advice I definitely should practice multiple times before actually growing. I have a few clears bind that I used to store close in is it possible to turn those into a diy station?

You can start off with a sab, plenty of people use them. You DON’T necessarily need a flow hood it’s ideal and makes things easier.

I built a flow hood, and it is really helpful. If you’ve got some plywood lying around, you just need a HEPA filter, and a fan. I used an old 8" exhaust fan for mine.

Here’s a plan for a tabletop sized hood: Fh Design 01.pdf (1.4 MB) It’s a pretty simple design, and it works like a champ.

Check out this thread too: Mushrooms - DIY, spores, etc 🍄 (Part 2) - #2 by GrowTheAtlas There are a bunch of weirdos over there, to be sure, but they have a lot of knowledge and they’re happy to shatre it.

Good luck. :vulcan_salute:

@Invisiblebully718 Hey bud check your local social media sites FB Marketplace and Craigslist maybe OfferUp ect. There is an a lot of this gear available close to me cheaper than you think. You could basically get it a turn key operation cheaper than you imagine … Cheers !!!

You could offer less and most likely get it the market is saturated… Good Luck

Are you going to make your own sterilized grain? If so, you’ll want a nice pressure cooker.

Gusseted bags with injection ports and air filters, 70% rubbing alcohol, rubber gloves, can of Lysol, storage totes for fruiting, spray bottle or two can be handy… it really depends what your plans are though, and if you’re not sure what you wanna do with the hobby, try to pick a route with the minimal investment to find out if you like it while maximizing your chance for success… to me that means lean towards spending your time and money on sterilization knowledge and equipment. It’s the most important part of growing mushrooms and it’s what stops the most people from making progress.
