Sounds exactly right. I used to get Pre 98 Bubba 12-15 years ago from a good dispo. During the early medical weed scene in CA.
And clones of it for $15 US. Good times.
I remember the buds would tighten and get really dense during the cure.

These are strange they tighten up on the cure like you said and they take awhile to really dry out i noticed thier a really wet bud in a way almost like its impossible to get most of the humidity out the bud for the longest time.These are dense but not heavy buds you get a big bag in an ounce of these buds thier really something when you get that bag in your hand.They remind me of Skunk #1 in a way in how soft ,velvety and elegant the bud breaks up between your fingertips the weed stays spongy, soft and gooey sticky forever i the #3 plant had the fattest roundest tricomes out of all 3 of them.The Buds sugar trim leafs turn the most pretty dark Turquoise blue green when you have her dialed in.

Ya but the rest were males unfortunately. I have a bunch more but i don’t think ill use em. Had 5 males in a row haha. Breeder is brother mendel genetics. Just wait a few days bro ill send them to you if you want? I have a hybrid too if you want both

Oh hey it’s from a Ukrainian breeder that I found on strainly but unfortunately he’s not really offering any more genetics so kind of wondering what happened.
I have two different Bubba cuts, both were acquired from Farmer Joe – A smaller, slower growing “pre-98” one (the overgrown one picured above) he had a few years back, and a larger “Original bubba” (“pre pre-98 Bubba”) he transitioned to a couple years back. One is supposed to be Berger’s…but I cannot recall the full stories. I sprayed one clone of each of my bubba cuts with STS 6 days ago, so I am hopeful that I will be able to make some bubba pollen soon so I can cross these two phenos…I hope to make seeds with both bubba’s: Both selfed and crossed to each other for maximum Bubba-licious diversity. If it works, I will be able to share some of that Bubba goodness with ya, if you like. I’ll keep you updated.
My landlord has had me in a no-flower-cycle hell for over a year now, and I have only 3weeks ago started flowering two plants of each cut, not the ones I sprayed with STS, along with a Corey Heime and a 90’s kush from Bobbi… in hopes I will be able to complete a cycle before the LL starts performing more maintenance 
Hopefully I will have long enough to flower to make at least a small batch of seeds.

Whats that original Bubba cut you got from Joe like?i got a snip from someone awhile back that got it on strainly but it had a fruity almost Runtzy smell to it.The look was almost there but no coffee or chocolate.Alot of the stuff im seeing advertised as Pre 98 and it has a fruit to it.I dont ever remember bubba having that

They both look and smell the same when finished… pure bubba goodness. Hard to tell them apart, their size and maybe different hues… the smaller one being lighter green… but I think the smaller one occasionally has just a tiny bit more kick

These are both pure bubba goodness… they both smell like bud that came through my southern California town as “kush” back in 1985… it is my favorite of all bud smells, and they both smell and taste the same… the only real difference (as Joe noted when he switched between them) was that the original grows bigger, faster, and yields more.
Neither taste fruity nor like grapes, those to me are the tastes of the… “fake bubbas” (crossed with something to increase yield and add flavor) that are going around

The grape ones reminds me of the old purple urkle with that Grape tootsie pop smell but no tootsie in the taste just the candy grape

Don’t get me wrong, I do quite enjoy grape flavored cannabis! When I buy bubba from the dispo, it is usually the grape pheno. Its just different. It’s not bad, but its not the one I know and crave as being “the one” 
Back at CCG, we had a “pure kush” that was even more kushy and chocolatey… More like Katsu"s bubba cut, which was stronger and stonier than the original or pre-98 but had more of a tendency to herm the funk out. The pure kush never hermed though. Looking back I would swear that it was even better than the bubbas I have now. But that cut is long gone AFAIK
