I just learned the hard way that bud rot can set in and spread real quick, and I desperately need a dehumidifier. I just trashed my entire first harvest. I considered it a practice round, but didn’t expect it to end like this.
Damn.
That sucks.
And yeah it does man, I tried cutting it out and within days took over the whole shit.
If it’s in there and that big gasp of humidity gets released at lights out it’s a ko ha
Over the years I’m trending to real low RH, makes it easier on my but then I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t clone anymore. Tight rope we walk.
Yea… Rocketboy just told me the same thing. Things I never had a problem with in my micro grow back in the day… then again the pc intake and exhaust fans never shut off. My tent is in my bedroom, and the fan I started with isn’t variable speed, or I didn’t get the one with the controller. Can’t keep it running through the night.
Sorry to hear this man! Cruise FB for dehumidifiers but also you can get an external fan controller ('Zon) hooked up easily.
Or you could just call it a “white noise generator” and let her rip! You’ll get used to it I promise.
True dat!!! Takes a while but you’ll adjust.
I have a white noise machine, I sleep with an ac on all summer and the fan doesn’t bother me. But this thing is loud
Maybe something like this would help.
Like yours, my area is also right in my personal living space. I have a 6inch version in front of a Hyper Fan - It does deaden the sound of the airflow and rumble from the fan, but the HP makes this kind of whistling/whining sound that cuts through, but I’ve gotten used to that. It’s basically just an aluminum tube with that egg carton-shaped acoustic styrofoam inside. I think AC Infinity makes one that’s a bit pricier, but I can’t say whether it’s any better.
I had that same fan (or one by the same name and appearance) for years, and yeah… It’s loud. The AC Infinity S6 fan I have now is so much quieter on low speed. Well worth the upgrade, if that’s an option.
Yea, I’ve been eyeing the infinity since badger got one and said how quiet it was. That’s the first upgrade I’m going to do, but I still have to get the humidity under control since it’s in a closed room
Yeah ac Infinity are super quiet.
I’ve ran the same whisperlines for years. Quieter than a box fan. Dehumidifier is louder!
Recently upgraded one of my 6" to an AC Infinity T6… the other older 6" will be swapped out soon. Major improvement…
Merry Christmas all, glad to see you chugging along @Tonygreen. Hope you and family are feeling better…
I had a conversation with my middle daughter this evening in grow room, told her about this project… she’s looking fwd to sampling!
Yea I though of that too, wondered if it was louder than the a
A/c unit I run in the summer. But if I can just vent it to another room, that would be cheaper and more effective. Now I’m thinking about it, if I put the carbon on the output of the system, I can save nearly a foot in height in the tent.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Don’t you save money in the long run using a pre-filter? Is there a way to run a pre-filter if the filter is on the downwind side of the fan?
I have to have all the room in my tent, I’m short as it is.
that T6 model has the controller with it and it will help with that humidity control under some conditions. Not all …but enough to make it a smart purchase. I have read good remarks of the filter cans too and they are better price than some of the good ones.
I have a T4 and it does good things. (lower fan speed, better humidity and temp control for less energy)Will not be buying any other brand.
Merry Xmas all and as MR B says b well
Filter the air coming into the room/cabinet/tent and then a ‘sock’ on the charcoal can so you can remove it and clean it is what I do or try to.
That’s a bummer. If it’s any consolation, we’ve all had things go sideways. For me, the most painful lessons are the ones we learn the most from.

Like backing a badger into a corner
They are very protective of their plants, those badgers. Not very bright, but very protective. Carry a lot of diseases though.

I wonder if you couldn’t disassemble a standard cheap furnace filter, roll a layer of the filtering material into a tube, and insert the tube into a filter so it expands to line the inside so dust and such is captured there. It would have much less surface area than a prefilter wrapped around the outside and would probably need to be replaced fairly often, but might work ok.
Actually, a HEPA membrane might effectively sequester rogue pollen, spores, and other airborne nasties quite well - remove and discard like a disposable bag in a vacuum cleaner.
Thinking about it as I write, such a thing is bound to exist for this purpose.
